Doha: Qatari English-language newspaper Gulf Times said in its Wednesday editorial that Doha is the capital of sports in Asia and the most prominent candidate to host the 2030 Asian Games when the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) chooses the host country in Muscat in December.
The newspaper recalled that the 2006 Asian Games held in Doha was historic for the State of Qatar because it accelerated the country’s march to become a serious contender on the world sports stage, adding that Qatar still has a major role to play in Asia as one of the leading sports countries.
Doha’s desire to host the Asian Games once again is not surprising, the Gulf Times stated, noting that a high-level OCA delegation arrived in Doha on Tuesday for an evaluation trip that includes touring the country and visiting its modern facilities.
Qatar built many facilities to host the 2006 Asian Games, but the bid for the 2030 Asian Games is made easier for the State because the infrastructure needed to host the event is already in place thanks to the preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the newspaper added.
Gulf Times noted that Qatar has enormous experience from organizing major competitions for many sports, in addition to annual notable events such as the ATP Qatar Open and the Qatar Masters, the European Tour golf tournament, among others.
The paper indicated that Qatar has succeeded in controlling the coronavirus (COVID-19) to some extent, while many countries are still struggling to control the pandemic. It added that it isn’t surprising that Qatar will host the East Asian matches of the AFC Champions League in the coming days, in which teams from Australia, China, Japan, South Korea and Thailand will participate.
In terms of safety and security, the newspaper stated that Qatar was ranked the safest Arab country and ranked first in the Numbeo Crime Index in mid-2020, making it one of the safest countries in the world.
Gulf Times concluded its editorial by emphasizing that Doha is a safe bet for the 2030 Asian Games, as no other city can provide a safer and easier event, where you can reach anywhere in less than 30 minutes, adding that Doha’s hosting of the 2030 Asian Games will leave a tremendous legacy that future generations can cherish.

الدوحة: ذكرت صحيفة /جلف تايمز/ الناطقة بالإنجليزية، في افتتاحية لرئيس التحرير اليوم، أن الدوحة هي عاصمة الرياضة في آسيا، وهي المرشح الأبرز لاستضافة دورة الألعاب الأسيوية 2030 عندما يختار المجلس الأولمبي الآسيوي الدولة المستضيفة في مسقط الشهر المقبل.
وأعادت الصحيفة إلى الأذهان، دورة الألعاب الأسيوية التي اقيمت في الدوحة سنة 2006 وكانت تاريخية بالنسبة لدولة قطر لأنها سرعت من مسيرة الدولة لتصبح لاعبا رئيسيا على المسرح الرياضي العالمي، مضيفة أن دولة قطر لا يزال لديها دور رئيسي تلعبه في آسيا باعتبارها واحدة من الدول الرياضية الرائدة.
وقالت /جلف تايمز/ في مقال لرئيس التحرير إن رغبة الدوحة في استضافة دورة الألعاب الأسيوية مرة أخرى لم يكن مفاجئا، مشيرة إلى أن وفد رفيع المستوى من المجلس الأولمبي الآسيوي وصل إلى الدوحة أمس /الثلاثاء/، في رحلة تقييم سيقومون خلالها بجولة في البلاد وزيارة مرافقها الحديثة.
وأوضحت أن دولة قطر قامت ببناء العديد من المنشآت لاستضافة الحدث في سنة 2006، ولكن العرض لسنة 2030 سيكون أكثر سهولة لأن البنية التحتية اللازمة لاستضافة الحدث موجودة بفضل الاستعدادات لكأس العالم لكرة القدم.
وأضافت أن قطر تتمتع بخبرة هائلة تأتي مع تنظيم مسابقات كبرى للعديد من الرياضات، بالإضافة إلى الأحداث البارزة السنوية مثل بطولات التنس لرابطة محترفي التنس والجولة الأوروبية للجولف وغيرها.
كما أشارت الصحيفة إلى أن دولة قطر نجحت في السيطرة إلى حد ما على فيروس كورونا، في حين لا تزال العديد من الدول تكافح للسيطرة على الوباء، مضيفة أنه ليس من المستغرب أن تستضيف قطر خلال الأيام المقبلة مباريات شرق آسيا في دوري أبطال آسيا، والتي ستشارك فيه فرق من أستراليا والصين واليابان وكوريا الجنوبية وتايلاند.
وعلى صعيد السلامة والأمن، ذكرت الصحيفة أن قطر صنفت على أنها أكثر الدول العربية أمانا، واحتلت الصدارة في مؤشر الجريمة لـ/ Numbeo / منتصف سنة 2020، مما يجعلها واحدة من أكثر الدول أمانا في العالم.
واختتمت /جلف تايمز/ بالتأكيد على أن الدوحة هي رهان أمن لدورة الألعاب الآسيوية 2030، حيث لا توجد مدينة أخرى يمكنها توفير حدث أكثر أمانا وسهولة ويمكن فيه الوصول إلى أي مكان في أقل من 30 دقيقة، مضيفة أن استضافة الدوحة لدورة الألعاب الآسيوية في عام 2030 سيترك إرثا هائلا تعتز به الأجيال القادمة.
