Ministry of Public Health Says Pfizer and BioNTech Vaccine Announcement is Promising

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health said Tuesday that the announcement made by Pfizer and BioNTech regarding a COVID-19 vaccine promising, saying it reflects the progress made in developing and testing a safe and effective virus.
The ministry said that the two companies said that the interim analysis of the phase three study showed that the vaccine’s efficacy was 90%. The ministry said that the efficacy rate was higher than it was expecting, adding that the development is a cause for optimism on the chances of reverting to normalcy sooner rather than later. The ministry maintained however that these were preliminary results, and that the current tests are the most important in proving the efficacy and safety of the vaccine candidate.
Chair of the National Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of the Infectious Diseases Division at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) Dr. Abdullatif Al Khal said that HMC was cooperating with Pfizer and BioNTech since the beginning of the summer, with both companies stressing that the State of Qatar would be able to get an initial quantity from the vaccine, if it is approved by regulators, by the end of this year or the beginning of 2021.

الدوحة: اعتبرت وزارة الصحة العامة الإعلان الذي أصدرته شركتا /فايزر/ و/بيونتيك/ عن اللقاح المضاد لفيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ أمر مبشر للغاية ويظهر التقدم الكبير في تطوير واختبار لقاح آمن وفعال ضد الفيروس.
وأشارت الوزارة إلى أهمية الإعلان عن النتائج الأولية لهذا اللقاح حيث “أكدت شركتا فايزر وبيونتيك أن التحليل الأولي للقاح يظهر أنه يوفر حماية بنسبة 90% من الإصابة بفيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/، ويفوق ذلك ما كنا نأمله أو نتوقعه بمراحل، ويعطينا هذا الخبر سبباً وجيهاً للتفاؤل والسعادة بعودة الحياة إلى طبيعتها عاجلاً وليس آجلاً، ولكن يجب الأخذ في الاعتبار أن نتائج هذه الدراسة لازالت مبدئية وأن النتائج الإضافية للتجارب السريرية الجارية مهمة جداً لتأكيد مدى فعالية اللقاح”.
وقال الدكتور عبد اللطيف الخال رئيس المجموعة الاستراتيجية الوطنية للتصدي لفيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ ورئيس قسم الأمراض المعدية بمؤسسة حمد الطبية “كنا على تعاون مستمر مع شركتي فايزر وبيونتيك منذ بداية فصل الصيف، حيث أكدا أنه في حال حصول لقاحهما على الموافقة التنظيمية اللازمة ستكون دولة قطر قادرة على تلقي كمية أولية من اللقاح بحلول نهاية هذا العام أو مع بداية عام 2021”.
