Second Round of Soil Monitoring Program in Qatar Kicks Off

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Department of Monitoring and Environmental Laboratory, has started the second executive round of field survey and soil quality monitoring in the State of Qatar for 2020, which will continue until next month, after the implementation of the first round at the beginning of this year.

Director of the Department of Monitoring and Environmental Laboratory in the Ministry Engineer Hassan Al-Qassimi explained that the implementation of the second round of the Soil Monitoring Program in the State of Qatar is part of the Department’s tasks in developing and implementing plans for environmental monitoring programs for air, water, and soil and part of the several environmental monitoring programs prepared and implemented by the Department and then the preparation and submission of periodic reports that include assessment of the state of environmental soil quality in the country.

He said that this program aims at protecting and sustaining the Qatari environment and ensuring that no environmental pollution occurs, pointing out that the Department is always developing its tools, mechanisms, and programs as part of the operational management plans included in the sustainable strategy of MME.

Engineer Al-Qassimi referred to the many initiatives and tours adopted by the Department of Monitoring and Environmental Laboratory to achieve the objectives of the National Development Strategy of the State of Qatar 2022. The efforts to protect and sustain the Qatari environment and its resources are carried out according to the approved strategies and within the framework of the attention and care that the environment in the State of Qatar enjoys, clearly represented in the fourth pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030, he stressed.

Ali Jassim al Kuwari, from the Department of Monitoring and Environmental Laboratory, said that the Soil Monitoring Program includes 52 soil monitoring sites distributed throughout the State of Qatar. Soil monitoring sites include different types of soils, that are considered an important environmental resource that is used in several fields. The distribution of these sites also covers the different uses of the soil, such as grazing, gardens and camping areas, sabkha, beaches, dunes, desert undeveloped land, in addition to the soil in residential and industrial areas.

He pointed out that the environmental survey teams of the Department collect soil samples from the surface and at about 15cm depth at such sites. After that, they are delivered to the environmental laboratory of the Environmental Monitoring Department to conduct physical and chemical measurements of about 25 environmental measures and variables of environmental quality. Such variables include, for example, salinity, acidity, organic matter content (which can account for the carbon stored in soil), heavy metals, granule grading, etc. Following analyzing all samples, semi-annual reports and other annual reports are prepared; containing a comprehensive environmental quality assessment of soil in Qatar and a determination of whether there is any contamination and its source if any.

In another context, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, represented by the Public Parks Department and Al Daayen Municipality, today inaugurated two new parks namely Al Sakhama Park and Lusail Valley Park in Al Daayen Municipality, in the presence of a number of officials from MME.

Al Sakhama Park is located on an area of 6250 square meters, of which 2240 are green areas. It includes 16 palm trees, a cafeteria, bathrooms, and play areas.

The Lusail Valley Park is located on an area of 8370 square meters, of which 2360 are green spaces, and it includes 17 palm trees and a football field on an area of 960 meters, and a basketball court on an area of 970 meters, as well as a cafeteria, bathrooms and play areas.

الدوحة: بدأت وزارة البلدية والبيئة ممثلة في إدارة الرصد والمختبر البيئي، الجولة التنفيذية الثانية من المسح الميداني ورصد جودة التربة في دولة قطر لعام 2020، والتي ستستمر إلى الشهر المقبل، وذلك بعد تنفيذ الجولة الأولى مطلع العام الحالي.

وأوضح المهندس حسن القاسمي مدير إدارة الرصد والمختبر البيئي بالوزارة أن تنفيذ الجولة الثانية من برنامج رصد التربة في دولة قطر، يأتي في إطار مهام الإدارة في وضع وتنفيذ خطط برامج الرصد للهواء والماء والتربة، وضمن العديد من البرامج التي تقوم الإدارة بإعدادها وتنفيذها، ومن ثم رفع تقارير دورية تتضمن تقييم حالة جودة التربة البيئية في البلاد.

وقال إن الهدف من هذا البرنامج هو حماية واستدامة البيئة القطرية ورصد أي تلوث بها، لافتاً الانتباه إلى أن الإدارة تعمل دائماً على تطوير أدواتها وآلياتها وبرامجها ضمن خطط الإدارة التشغيلية المدرجة في الاستراتيجية المستدامة لوزارة البلدية والبيئة.

وأشار المهندس القاسمي إلى العديد من المبادرات والجولات التي اعتمدتها إدارة الرصد والمختبر البيئي لتحقيق أهداف استراتيجية التنمية الوطنية لدولة قطر 2022، مؤكدا أن جهود حماية البيئة القطرية ومواردها واستدامتها تتم حسب الاستراتيجيات المعتمدة وفي إطار ما تحظى به البيئة في دولة قطر من اهتمام وعناية، تمثلت بوضوح في الركيزة الرابعة لرؤية قطر الوطنية 2030 .

من جانبه أوضح السيد علي جاسم الكواري بإدارة الرصد والمختبر البيئي، أن برنامج رصد التربة يتضمن /52/ موقعا لرصد التربة موزعة على جميع مناطق دولة قطر، وتتضمن مواقع رصد التربة أنواعا مختلفة من التربة التي تعتبر مورداً بيئياً هاماً يستخدم في مجالات متعددة، وتوزيع هذه المواقع يغطي أيضاً الاستخدامات المختلفة للتربة مثل مناطق الرعي والروض والتخييم والسبخات والشواطئ والكثبان الرملية والأراضي الصحراوية، بالإضافة إلى التربة في المناطق السكنية والصناعية.

ولفت إلى أن فرق المسح البيئي في الإدارة تقوم بجمع عينات التربة من السطح وبعمق حوالي /15 سم/ من هذه المواقع، وبعد ذلك يتم تسليمها إلى المختبر البيئي التابع للإدارة لإجراء القياسات الفيزيائية والكيميائية والتي يبلغ عددها حوالي /25/ مقياسا ومتغيرا بيئيا للجودة البيئية، وتتضمن هذه المتغيرات على سبيل المثال الملوحة والحموضة ومحتوى المادة العضوية /يمكن منه حساب الكربون المختزن في التربة/، والفلزات الثقيلة وتدرج الحبيبات وغيرها، وبعد الانتهاء من تحليل جميع العينات يتم إعداد تقارير نصف سنوية وتقارير أخرى سنوية تحتوي على تقييم شامل للجودة البيئية للتربة في دولة قطر وتحديد ما إذا كان هناك أي تلوث وتحديد مصدره إن وجد.

وفي سياق آخر افتتحت وزارة البلدية والبيئة ممثلة بإدارة الحدائق العامة وبلدية الظعاين اليوم، حديقتي الصخامة ووادي لوسيل ضمن الحدود الجغرافية لبلدية الظعاين، بحضور عدد من مسؤولي الوزارة والبلدية.

وتقع حديقة الصخامة على مساحة /6250/ مترا مربعا من بينها /2240/ مسطحات خضراء، وتتضمن 16 شجرة نخيل وكافتيريا وحمامات ومناطق ألعاب.

وتقع حديقة وادي لوسيل على مساحة /8370/ مترا مربعا من بينها /2360/ مسطحات خضراء، وتضم 17 شجرة نخيل وملعب كرة قدم على مساحة /960/ مترا، وملعب كرة سلة على مساحة /970/ مترا ، كما تضم كافتيريا وحمامات ومناطق ألعاب.
