1- Why do some young people get infected and die, and others live?

One of the most confusing aspects about Covid-19 disease is how some healthy young people contract the virus and their disease develops into severe complications that may end in death, while others do not show even mild symptoms.

Scientists believe that small genetic differences between people may play a role in explaining this, according to a report published by The Independent.

Studies published in Nature and Science journal indicate a major factor affecting whether a person’s Covid-19 disease may threaten the person’s life, which is the presence of a deficiency in interferon proteins, specifically the first type of interferon, “IFN-” IFN-I. According to Al Jazeera Net.

This deficiency may occur as a result of inherited mutations in the genes that encode key antiviral signaling molecules, or through the development of antibodies that bind to IFN-I. Interferons are a molecular messenger that stimulates the immune defenses against invading viruses, and plays a vital role in the body’s defense.

Scientists have also found that rare mutations in some people may make them unable to provide the adequate supplies of interferons they need to stimulate effective immune responses to Covid-19 disease.

2- How many people were infected?

Despite the publication of many statistics on the number of people infected with the Coronavirus, these data are not sufficient to obtain a clear picture of the extent of the spread of the virus, because we do not know the number of infected people who did not show symptoms, in addition to the severe shortage in the number of tests compared to the number of the population, according to a report published by the French newspaper L’Obs, by Jean-Paul Fritz.

According to the author, it is difficult to determine the number of infected people, because many people may have slight symptoms and believe that they are victims of a simple seasonal cold.

The dangerous thing is that people without symptoms will not make an effort to avoid infecting others because they are not aware of their infection with the virus.

والإنترفيرون هو مرسال جزيئي يحفز الدفاعات المناعية ضد الفيروسات الغازية، ويلعب دورًا حيويًّا في الدفاع عن الجسم.

وقد وجد العلماء أنّ الطفرات النادرة لدى بعض الأشخاص قد تجعلهم غير قادرين على توفير الإمدادات الكافية من الإنترفيرون التي يحتاجونها لتحفيز استجابات مناعية فعالة لمرض كوفيد-19.

2- كم عدد المصابين؟

رغم نشر الكثير من الإحصائيات عن عدد الأشخاص المصابين بفيروس كورونا فإنّ تلك المعطيات غير كافية للحصول على صورة واضحة عن مدى انتشار الفيروس، لأننا نجهل عدد الأشخاص المصابين الذين لم تظهر عليهم الأعراض، بالإضافة إلى النقص الفادح في عدد الاختبارات مقارنة بعدد السكان، وذلك وفقًا لتقرير نشرته صحيفة “لوبس” (L’Obs) الفرنسية للكاتب جان بول فريتز.

وبحسب الكاتب، فإنّه من الصعب تحديد عدد المصابين، لأنّ كثيرًا من الأشخاص قد تظهر عليهم أعراض طفيفة ويعتقدون أنّهم ضحايا نزلة برد موسمية بسيطة.

والأمر الخطير هو أنّ الأشخاص الذين لا يعانون من أي أعراض لن يبذلوا جهدًا لتجنب نقل العدوى للآخرين لأنهم يجهلون إصابتهم بالفيروس.

3- ما هي الفترة التي تبقى فيها معديًّا؟

أظهرت العديد من الدراسات أنّ العدوى تختلف من فرد لآخر، وأنّ هناك أشخاصًا “لهم قدرة فائقة على العدوى”، لكن العلماء ما زالوا يجهلون على وجه الدقة الفترة التي يظل فيها المريض معديا، وفقا للكاتب فريتز.

ويرجح العلماء أنّ المصاب يمكن أن يبقى معديًّا لمدة تتراوح بين يوم و3 أيام قبل ظهور الأعراض الأولى، وهي الفترة الأخطر، ثم يستمر احتمال نقل العدوى لمدة أسبوع تقريبًا، أي أنّنا يمكن أنْ ننقل الفيروس خلال فترة تمتد لـ10 أيام.

4- هل نحن محصنون بعد الإصابة بكوفيد-19؟ وإلى متى؟

بيَّن الكاتب أنّ هناك اختلافًا في مواقف المتخصصين والخبراء بشأن هذه المسألة، حيث أظهرت بعض الدراسات أنّ “الأغلبية العظمى من الأشخاص (أكثر من 90%) الذين تظهر عليهم أعراض خفيفة أو معتدلة يظهرون استجابة مناعية قويّة ومستقرّة نسبيًّا ضدّ الفيروس لمدة 5 أشهر على الأقل”، وهذا من شأنه أن يقلل فرص إصابتهم بالعدوى مرة ثانية.

في المقابل، يحذر خبراء من تزايد حالات الإصابة بالعدوى مرة أخرى.

حتّى اللحظة، لا يوجد علاج فعّال لمرض كوفيد-19، ويستخدم الأطباء بشكل أساسي الأدوية التي تخفف الأعراض، والتي لم تثبت فعاليتها علميًّا إلى الآن.

ويؤكّد الكاتب أنّ الكثير من الآمال وضعت على عدد من العلاجات الواعدة التي تطورها المختبرات في شتى أنحاء العالم، لكن أغلبها كان مخيبًا ولم يحقق النتائج المأمولة.

7- هل من المأمول الحصول على لقاح قريبًا؟

يعتبر اللقاح هو الحل المنتظر لمكافحة الوباء، ولكن من بين 198 لقاحًا قيد التطوير هناك 11 فقط في المرحلة الثالثة من التجارب حاليًّا، وستستغرق هذه المرحلة المزيد من الوقت لأنّه يجب أن يكون هناك عدد كاف من الأشخاص الذين تلقوا التلقيح وخالطوا حالات إيجابية أخرى للتحقق من فعاليته.

9 – موجة أولى وثانية.. أم موجات؟

هل سيختفي فيروس كورونا بعد الموجة الثانية؟ أم أن العالم سيواجه موجات متواصلة؟ وفي هذا الشأن حذر المجلس العلمي الفرنسي -وفق ما نقلت وكالة الصحافة الفرنسية- من أنّ أوروبا معرضة لموجات أخرى من كوفيد-19 العام المقبل، في حين تسعى القارة للتعامل مع ثاني موجة قاتلة من الإصابات بفيروس كورونا.

10- ماذا عن استراتيجية الإغلاق المتقطِّع؟

وفقا للمجلس العلمي الفرنسي، فإن “الأمر متوقف على الفيروس نفسه وبيئته والإجراءات التي ستتخذ للحد من انتشاره ومستوى الامتثال لها”.

لكن في غياب لقاح -إذ من غير المتوقع أن يتاح على نطاق واسع حتى بعد مرور أشهر من بدء العام الجديد- فإن من المحتمل حدوث مزيد من موجات تفشي الوباء.
