Qatar Petroleum signs deal to enter a new exploration block in Mozambique

Doha: Qatar Petroleum entered into an agreement with Eni to acquire a 25.5% participating interest in block A5A, located in the Angoche basin, offshore the Republic of Mozambique.

The agreement is subject to customary regulatory approvals by the government of Mozambique. Following such approvals, the partners holding participating interest in the block will be affiliates of each of Eni (operator) with a 34% participating interest, Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos (ENH) with a 15% participating interest, Sasol with a 25.5% participating interest, and Qatar Petroleum with a 25.5% participating interest.

Commenting on this occasion, H E Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum, said: “We are pleased to sign this agreement, with our valuable partner Eni, to participate in exploring this frontier offshore basin and strengthen our presence in Mozambique. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mozambican authorities and our partners in this block for their cooperation and support.”

Block A5A lies in the Angoche basin and is located adjacent to block A5B for which an affiliate of Qatar Petroleum entered into an agreement in December 2018 with an ExxonMobil affiliate to acquire a 10% participating interest. Block A5A covers a total area of around 5,133 km2 in water depths ranging from about 300 to 1,800 meters.

Al-Kaabi added: “By entering into this new agreement, we aim at expanding our exploration portfolio to ensure diversification of geographies as well as geologies and basins. Having a large and diversified exploration portfolio is a key long-term objective for Qatar Petroleum and essential for success.”

In line with Qatar Petroleum’s growth strategy, this opportunity further strengthens Qatar Petroleum’s international oil and gas portfolio with the addition of a block in a frontier exploration basin with significant hydrocarbon resource potential.

وقّعت «قطر للبترول» اتفاقية مع شركة «إيني» الإيطالية، تستحوذ بموجبها على 25.5% من امتياز الاستكشاف في المنطقة «A5A» بحوض أنغوشي البحري في جمهورية موزمبيق. وبعد موافقة الجهات الحكومية المعنية في جمهورية موزمبيق، ستكون الأطراف المشاركة في هذه المنطقة هي شركات تابعة لكل من «إيني» (المشغّل) بحصة تبلغ 34%، و»قطر للبترول» بحصة تبلغ 25.5%، و»ساسول» بحصة تبلغ 25.5%، والشركة الوطنية للهيدروكربونات في موزمبيق بحصة تبلغ 15%.

في معرض تعليقه على الاتفاقية، قال سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لـ «قطر للبترول»: «يسعدنا التوقيع على هذه الاتفاقية مع شركة (إيني) للمساهمة بالاستكشاف في هذه الأحواض البحرية الواعدة بما يعزز من حضورنا في جمهورية موزمبيق. كما يسرني بهذه المناسبة أن أغتنم الفرصة لأشكر السلطات المحلية في موزمبيق وشركاءنا في هذه المنطقة على تعاونهم ودعمهم».

جهود

وأضاف سعادة المهندس الكعبي: «تشكّل هذه الاتفاقية استمراراً لجهود (قطر للبترول) في توسيع رقعة حضورها الدولي لتغطي تنوعاً كبيراً من المناطق الجغرافية والتركيبات الجيولوجية وأحواض الاستكشاف. ويُعدّ امتلاك محفظة استثمارية كبيرة ومتنوعة هدفاً رئيسياً طويل الأمد لـ (قطر للبترول) وعامل نجاح أساسياً».

وتقع المنطقة A5A في حوض أنغوشي، وتتجاور مع المنطقة A5B التي وقّعت بشأنها «قطر للبترول» في ديسمبر الماضي على اتفاقية مع شركة «إكسون موبيل» للاستحواذ على حصة تبلغ 10%. وتبلغ مساحة المنطقة A5A حوالي 5.133 كيلومتراً مربعاً وتقع في مياه يتراوح عمقها بين 300 و1.800 متر.

وتمثّل هذه الفرصة استمراراً لاستراتيجية «قطر للبترول» للنمو، وتوسّع من بصمتها الدولية في صناعة النفط والغاز إلى مناطق واعدة تحمل إمكانات كبيرة من الموارد الهيدروكربونية.
