Armstrong on moon photo is up for auction

London: Christie’s auction house in London has displayed a large collection of photos about space, including a rare photo of American astronaut Neil Armstrong on the moon.

Christie’s said that the more than 2,400 photos document the “golden age of space exploration” and that it is the most comprehensive collection of this kind to be auctioned right now.

“This is perhaps the greatest creative and ingenious achievement of humanity, bringing down a man peacefully on the surface of the moon and bringing him back to Earth,” James Hislop, head of science and natural history at Christie’s, told Reuters. “If you see some of these pictures, you can really go to the surface of the moon,” he added.

In the foreground of the photos is a previously unreleased photo of Neil Armstrong during the Apollo 11 spacecraft flight in 1969, when he became the first human to walk on the moon.

لندن: عرضت دارُ كريستيز للمزادات في لندن مجموعةً كبيرة من الصور عن الفضاء منها صورةٌ نادرة لرائد الفضاء الأمريكي نيل أرمسترونج على سطح القمر.

وقالت كريستيز إن الصور التي يزيد عددها على 2400 توثق «العصر الذهبي لاستكشاف الفضاء» وإنها أكثر المجموعات من هذا النوع شمولًا التي تُعرض في مزاد الآن.

وقال جيمس هيسلوب رئيس قسم العلم والتاريخ الطبيعي في كريستيز لرويترز «ربما يكون هذا أعظم إنجاز إبداعي وعبقري للإنسانية، إنزال رجل بسلام على سطح القمر وإعادته إلى الأرض». وأضاف «أن تشاهد بعض هذه الصور يمكنك حقًا الانتقال إلى سطح القمر». وفي مقدمة الصور لقطة لم تنشر من قبل لنيل أرمسترونج خلال رحلة سفينة الفضاء أبولو 11 عام 1969 عندما صار أول إنسان يمشي على القمر.
