Qatar tests over one million people for COVID-19

Doha: Qatar has tested over a million people for COVID-19 since the beginning the pandemic, according to daily statistics released by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). With 6029 people tested yesterday for COVID-19, the total number of tests done in the country reached 1,001,488. The total number of people tested for COVID-19 so far in Qatar represents around 37 percent of its approximately 2.75 million population.

The total number of positive COVID-19 cases recorded in Qatar since the start of the pandemic is 133,619 which is around 13.34 percent of the total number of people tested for the virus. At present, 2,707 active cases are under treatment while there were 30 cases of hospital admissions in the last 24 hours taking the total patients in the hospital to 304. Some 40 people are receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit for COVID-19.

A total of 130,680 have recovered from COVID-19 until yesterday. So far, 232 people have died from the COVID-19 in Qatar, and the country has one of the lowest death rates due to COVID-19 across the world. Although the number of daily COVID-19 cases has declined, MoPH continues to remind the public about the importance of social distancing in workplaces and public areas, masks are required in shops and when outdoors for reasons other than exercise and practice hand hygiene.

“Even though restrictions are being lifted, and numbers are declining, this does not mean that the COVID-19 pandemic is finished in Qatar people continue to be admitted with moderate to severe COVID-19 symptoms,” the Ministry said in its daily COVID-19 statement. “Unless we follow all precautionary measures, we may experience a second wave of the virus and see numbers increasing – there are already signs of this happening in other countries around the world. Avoid close contact with others, crowded places and confined closed spaces w h e r e o t h e r p e o p l e aggregate,” it said.
