Second Phase of Upgrading Works on Al Wukair Road Commences

Doha: The Public Works Authority “Ashghal” announced the commencement of upgrading works on Al Wukair Road, as part of the Interim Road Improvement in South of Doha Area – Phase 2, and these works are scheduled to be fully completed in the first quarter of 2022.
These works aim to upgrade Al Wukair Road, at a length of 2 km, and convert two roundabouts into signalized intersections as well as develop infrastructure utilities services.
The project engineer in the Roads Projects Department in Ashghal Eng. Monira Al Mohannadi, emphasized the importance of this project and its significant location especially that it includes the upgrade of both the roundabout known as the Health Centre Roundabout and the roundabout known as Al Wakra Hospital Roundabout which are two of the most congested roundabouts in the area, adding that both roundabouts along with Al Wukair Road serve many service facilities, shops, commercial centers, and educational and health institutions.
Further to converting the two existing roundabouts into signalized intersections to improve the traffic flow in the area, the projects scope will include road developments in both directions of Al Wukair Road at a total length of 2 km, providing 4 km of pedestrian walkways and upgrading street lighting systems, she added.
It will also improve infrastructure utilities in the area, such as upgrading the TSE network and surface water drainage network, and providing protection for the existing power lines and telecommunications cables.
It is worth mentioning that these works are part of Ashghal’s efforts to improve the existing services and utilities and upgrade the road network in several areas in the country, to cope with the national economic development and social growth requirements in Qatar.

الدوحة : بدأت هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/ في تنفيذ أعمال المرحلة الثانية من تطوير طريق الوكير ضمن مشروع تحسين الطرق في جنوب الدوحة الكبرى، ومن المخطط أن يتم الانتهاء من تنفيذ كامل المشروع في الربع الأول من عام 2022.
وتتمثل أعمال المشروع في تطوير طريق الوكير على امتداد كيلومترين علاوة على تحويل دوارين إلى تقاطعين بإشارات ضوئية وتطوير خدمات البنية التحتية.
وأشارت السيدة منيرة المهندي، مهندسة المشروع بإدارة مشروعات الطرق في /أشغال/، إلى أهمية المشروع، حيث سيتم من خلاله تطوير الدوّار المعروف بدوّار المركز الصحي والدوّار المعروف بدوّار مستشفى الوكرة على طريق الوكير وتحويلهما إلى تقاطعين بإشارات ضوئية مما سيعمل على تنظيم الحركة المرورية وتحسين الانسيابية المرورية في المنطقة خصوصاً وأن الدوّارين يخدمان العديد من المنشآت الصحية والمراكز التجارية والمؤسسات التعليمية.
وأضافت، أنه فضلاً عن تحويل الدوارين إلى تقاطعين بإشارات ضوئية، ستشمل أعمال المشروع تطوير الطريق عند التقاطعين الجديدين بإجمالي كيلومترين، إلى جانب توفير مسارات مخصصة للمشاة بطول حوالي 4 كم، بالإضافة إلى تطوير أنظمة الإنارة.
كما ستتضمن أعمال التطوير تحسين خدمات مرافق البنية التحتية وتحديث خطوط شبكة المياه المعالجة وشبكة تصريف المياه السطحية ومياه الأمطار، إلى جانب حماية خطوط الكهرباء والاتصالات.
الجدير بالذكر أن مشروع تطوير شارع الوكير يندرج ضمن الجهود التي تبذلها الهيئة لتحسين مرافق الخدمات الموجودة وتطوير شبكة الطرق بأنحاء مختلفة من البلاد بما يستجيب لمتطلبات النمو الاقتصادي والاجتماعي.
