Orchestra of the Filipino Youth performs at Katara Opera House

DOHA: The Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY) staged yet another successful concert at Katara Opera House on Friday as part of its “Qatar Tour 2018” which marked the ensemble’s international debut.

The well received event was graced by Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Alan L. Timbayan and Katara Deputy General Manager Ahmed Al Sayyed in addition to several diplomats and dignitaries.

Led by Venezuelan Maestro Joshua Dos Santos, the talented children played a repertoire of 15 pieces by renowned composers from around the world.

At the outset, Timbayan welcomed the guests and praised the State of Qatar for its keenness to promote and support talents all over the world.

Dos Santos, who is OFY’s musical director and conductor, said that the orchestra is a humanitarian initiative aimed at attracting young children from less privileged backgrounds towards classical music. “It is a great achievement and success that we started to perform in international venues and Qatar is our first destination. They granted us this opportunity to perform in this awesome well-organised venue,” he said.

The performance was well attended by members of the Filipino community in Doha as well as other fans of orchestral music from different communities.

Prior to Katara performance in Katara, the orchestra featured in a concert at Qatar National Library which was well applauded by the audience.

نظمت المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي (كتارا)، بالتعاون مع سفارة الفلبين لدى قطر، أمسية موسيقية قدمتها أوركسترا الفرقة الشبابية الفلبينية مساء الجمعة الماضي، في دار الأوبرا بـ «كتارا»، وذلك بحضور السيد أحمد عبدالرحمن السيد، نائب المدير العام لشؤون العمليات في المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي كتارا، بالإضافة إلى عدد من أصحاب السعادة السفراء، وجمهور غفير من أبناء الجالية الفلبينية في قطر.

وقدمت الفرقة المتكونة من 69 طالباً وطالبة، وتتراوح أعمارهم بين 12-14 عامًا، خمس عشرة مقطوعة موسيقية لأشهر الموزعين العالميين، جذبوا من خلالها قلوب الحضور من مختلف الجنسيات والفئات العمرية.

من جهته، رحب سعادة السيد ألان تيمبيان سفير جمهورية الفلبين بالحضور، وأكد على متانة العلاقات القطرية- الفلبينية، وأثنى على جهود القائمين على «كتارا» لاهتمامهم المميز بالفن والثقافة، وحرصهم على إحياء الفعاليات التي من شأنها إثراء المشهد الثقافي العالمي، كما أنها تدعم وتشجع الموهوبين والفنانين عبر العالم.

جدير بالذكر أن قطر هي أول بلد خارجي تقدم فيه أوركسترا الفرقة الشبابية الفلبينية عرضاً موسيقياً، والذي اعتبره القائمون عليها أمراً يستوجب الثناء والشكر لـ «كتارا» التي استضافت هذا العرض، والتي تعمل بجد واستمرار على دعم المشاريع الخيرية والثقافية والإنسانية حول العالم.;
