Geneva shuts down unnecessary restaurants and stores

Geneva: On Sunday, the city of Geneva imposed more stringent measures than those approved by the central Swiss authorities, including the closure of restaurants and non-essential stores in an effort to contain the increase of infections with the emerging Coronavirus, and the Professional Association of Ski Lift Companies said that it will make the wearing of masks compulsory in all its facilities during the winter season.
The Geneva cantonal government said the region was witnessing a “severe deterioration of the situation” and declared a “state of alert”. And it added in a statement that, as of Monday evening, restaurants and other entertainment centers (cinemas, museums, swimming pools, libraries, etc.), and all non-essential stores will be closed. The local government called on residents of the area not to leave their homes unless absolutely necessary, but it did not officially prevent movement. This means that the region of half a million people will be subject to strict quarantine, as in spring, with the only difference being to keep schools open.
The authorities justified these measures by the significant increase in the number of local infections, which recently exceeded a thousand per day, and the increase in hospitalizations for Covid-19 patients.
The decision came a few days after the central government announced a set of restrictions to contain the outbreak of Covid-19, without returning to the partial quarantine imposed in the spring.
Face masks are mandatory in closed public places and in open spaces if a safety distance is not maintained.
Switzerland, with a population of 8.5 million, has one of the highest rates.

وبررت السلطات هذه التدابير بالارتفاع الكبير في عدد الإصابات المحلية التي تجاوزت مؤخرًا الألف يوميًا، وزيادة حالات الاستشفاء لمصابي كوفيد-19.
وجاء القرار عقب بضعة أيام من إعلان الحكومة المركزية مجموعة قيود لاحتواء تفشّي كوفيد-19، بدون العودة إلى الحجر الجزئي الذي فرض في الربيع.
وصارت الكمامات إجبارية في الأماكن العامة المغلقة وكذلك في الفضاءات المفتوحة إن تعذر إبقاء مسافة أمان.وتشهد سويسرا التي يبلغ عدد سكانها 8,5 ملايين نسمة أحد أعلى معدلات انتشار الفيروس.
