Portugal Orders Lockdown Restrictions in Most of Country

Lisbon: Portugal announced a partial lockdown on Saturday to stem the spread of coronavirus as case numbers rise in the country.
Some 70 per cent of the country’s 10.3 million people have a “civic duty” to stay home as much as possible starting Wednesday, Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa said after eight hours of crisis talks in Lisbon. Schools will remain open. The new restrictions apply in 121 municipalities across the country, including Porto and the capital Lisbon, where the number of new infections per 100,000 people has surpassed 240 within 14 days.
The new rules are not a strict ban on going out, as people are allowed to leave their homes to go to work, to the doctor or to care for family members who require it, Costa said.
The public are advised under the measures to work from home whenever possible.
A day earlier, 4,656 new infections were registered, which is more than the country has seen in any other 24-hour period since the start of the pandemic.
On the same day, Portugal recorded its highest numbers of deaths in a single day from coronavirus, at 40.

وأبلغت السلطات البرتغالية، مواطنيها بضرورة البقاء في منازلهم باستثناء الخروج للعمل أو الدراسة أو التسوق، كما أمرت الشركات بالتحول لنظام العمل عن بعد.
وقال رئيس الوزراء البرتغالي أنطونيو كوستا، بعد يوم من بلوغ الإصابات اليومية بفيروس كورونا رقما قياسيا، إن الاجراءات ستغطي 121 بلدية بما في ذلك مدينتا لشبونة وبورتو، حيث تضم المناطق التي يشملها الإغلاق نحو 70 في المئة من سكان البرتغال البالغ عددهم نحو عشرة ملايين نسمة.
وكان إجمالي الإصابات بالفيروس في البرتغال قد بلغ 141279 في حين بلغت الوفيات 2507، لكن حالات الإصابة اليومية سجلت رقما قياسيا أمس الأول /الجمعة/ بلغ 4656 قبل أن تعود إلى 4007 في اليوم الموالي.
