The situation appears to be similar in Germany, where many politicians have called for tightening restrictions, on the eve of a meeting on the crisis. “We must now make quick and decisive decisions in order to break this second wave of infection,” said Olaf Schultz, Deputy Chancellor Angela Merkel.
In Italy, thousands of people demonstrated against the new precautionary measures. Violent incidents occurred, especially in Milan and Turin, the two big cities in the north of the country, where riot police were deployed and responded to demonstrators with tear gas, and in Spain, an evening demonstration took place in Barcelona against the night curfew imposed recently across the country, with the exception of the Canary Islands.
Sporadic protests were also organized, in Austria, Portugal and the United Kingdom, against measures imposed by governments to curb the spread of the virus

واعتبر اختصاصي الأمراض المعدية جيل بيالو أن انتشار الفيروس «خرج عن السيطرة» داعيًا إلى «إعادة الإغلاق في البلاد».
ويبدو أن الوضع مشابه في ألمانيا، حيث طالب العديد من السياسيين بتشديد القيود، عشية اجتماع حول الأزمة. وقال أولاف شولتز نائب المستشارة أنجيلا ميركل «علينا الآن اتخاذ قرارات سريعة وحاسمة من أجل كسر هذه الموجة الثانية من العدوى».
وفي إيطاليا تظاهر آلاف الأشخاص رفضًا للإجراءات الاحترازية الجديدة. ووقعت حوادث عنيفة خصوصًا في ميلانو وتورينو، المدينتين الكبيرتين الواقعتين شمال البلاد، حيث نُشرت شرطة مكافحة الشغب وردّت على المتظاهرين بالغاز المسيّل للدموع.وفي إسبانيا، خرجت مظاهرة مساء في برشلونة ضد حظر التجول الليلي الذي فرض مؤخرًا في جميع أنحاء البلاد، باستثناء جزر الكناري.
كما نُظمت احتجاجات متفرقة، في النمسا والبرتغال والمملكة المتحدة، ضد الإجراءات التي فرضتها الحكومات للحد من تفشي الفيروس.
