GOPAC President Highlights Qatar’s Majors Anti-Corruption Role

Doha: HE President of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri affirmed that the State of Qatar plays a major role in promoting the fight against corruption in partnership with the United Nations.
In an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), His Excellency hailed the large turnout in today’s 2023 parliamentary dialogue on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC), and the GOPAC annual general meeting as an evidence and great indicator that the world has confidence in the State of Qatar, and its true support for anti-corruption issues.
His Excellency said that the 2023 Parliamentary Dialogue on the UNCAC focuses on the issue of dialogue between parliamentarians worldwide, through the GOPAC, and that this dialogue focuses on activating the UNCAC and the role of parliaments and creating appropriate legislation to activate these agreements. His Excellency also indicated that most countries signed the UNCAC, but there are other laws that must be issued by these countries to activate this agreement, and that today’s dialogue urges countries to issue the necessary legislation to activate this agreement because what is happening on the ground is still far from what the UNCAC aspires to.
The GOPAC brings together parliamentarians from all over the world, and aims to activate the role of parliamentarians in everything related to corruption issues, especially since parliamentarians, His Excellency said.
His Excellency hailed the State of Qatar’s hosting the GOPAC presidency provides good support to this organization, stressing that sustainable development cannot be achieved unless corruption is fought, with the aim of preserving the capacities of future generations.
His Excellency also highlighted that the HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award came to support the activities of corruption fighters around the world, who need real support, praising the award, which has become a great outlet, to highlight the parties who are facing corruption in isolated places of the world, referring to the partnership between the UN and the State of Qatar in this regard.

الدوحة: أكد سعادة الدكتور علي بن فطيس المري، رئيس المنظمة العالمية للبرلمانيين ضد الفساد، أن دولة قطر تلعب دورا كبيرا في تعزيز محاربة الفساد بالشراكة مع الأمم المتحدة، وأن الحضور الكبير اليوم في الحوار البرلماني لعام 2023 بشأن اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الفساد، والاجتماع السنوي العام للمنظمة العالمية للبرلمانيين ضد الفساد، هو دليل ومؤشر كبير على أن العالم يثق بدولة قطر، ودعمها الحقيقي لقضايا محاربة الفساد.
وقال سعادته، في حوار خاص مع وكالة الأنباء القطرية /قنا/، إن الحوار البرلماني لعام 2023 بشأن الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الفساد يركز على قضية الحوار بين البرلمانيين على مستوى العالم، من خلال المنظمة العالمية للبرلمانين ضد الفساد /غوباك/، وأن هذا الحوار يركز على تفعيل اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة للدول الأطراف لمكافحة الفساد، وتفعيل دور البرلمانات وخلق التشريعات الملائمة لتفعيل هذه الاتفاقيات، مشيرا إلى أن معظم الدول وقعت على اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لدول الأطراف لمكافحة الفساد، لكن هناك قوانين أخرى يجب أن تصدرها هذه الدول لتفعيل هذه الاتفاقية، وأن الحوار اليوم يحث الدول على إصدار التشريعات اللازمة لتفعيل هذه الاتفاقية؛ لأن ما يحدث على الأرض لا يزال بعيدا عما تطمح إليه اتفاقية الأمم المتحدة لمكافحة الفساد.
وأوضح سعادة رئيس المنظمة العالمية للبرلمانيين ضد الفساد أن المنظمة العالمية للبرلمانين ضد الفساد /غوباك/ تجمع البرلمانيين من كل مكان في العالم، وتهدف إلى تنشيط دور البرلمانيين في كل ما يتعلق بقضايا الفساد، خصوصا أن البرلمانيين في أغلب دول العالم يتولون قضية التشريعات أو تمر من خلالهم؛ لذلك يعول عليهم في كل ما يتعلق بالاتفاقيات ضد الفساد ومحاربته.
وأضاف أن دولة قطر باحتضانها رئاسة المنظمة العالمية للبرلمانيين ضد الفساد تقدم دعما جيدا لهذه المنظمة، مؤكدا أن التنمية المستدامة لا تتحقق ما لم تتم محاربة الفساد، بهدف الحفاظ على مقدرات الأجيال القادمة.
كما أشار سعادته إلى أن جائزة “سمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني الدولية للتميز في مكافحة الفساد” جاءت لدعم أنشطة محاربي الفساد حول العالم، الذين يحتاجون بين فترة وأخرى إلى دعم حقيقي، مشيدا بالجائزة التي أصبحت متنفسا كبيرا، لتسليط الضوء على الأطراف الذين يواجهون الفساد في الأماكن المعزولة من العالم، مشيرا إلى شراكة الأمم المتحدة لدولة قطر في هذه الجائزة.
