HMC Continues to Provide High-Quality Services to Cancer Patients during COVID-19 Pandemic

Doha: The National Center for Cancer Care and Research of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) underlined that cancer services have remained fully operational with day care, short-stay and inpatient services, despite the challenges of providing high-quality services for patients with cancer during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“With full adherence to the precautionary measures put in place by the Ministry of Public Health to curb the spread of COVID-19, the NCCCR continued delivering essential care to all patients with cancer, and without compromising patient treatment outcomes and overall care,” Medical Director of the National Center for Cancer Care and Research (NCCCR) Dr. Mohammed Salem Al Hassan said.

Dr. Al Hassan added that cancer services, like other specialties across HMC, have adopted a number of new measures to ensure the best possible care remained available to patients.

In recognition of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, officials at HMC are urging patients with breast cancer, and other types of cancer, to take additional preventive measures to avoid contracting COVID-19. Some patients with cancer have weakened immune systems, due to their underlying condition or treatment.

Having a weakened immune system makes it harder to fight off diseases and patients with cancer may be at higher risk for more severe COVID-19 illness. Even a mild case of COVID-19 could cause serious complications for individuals with cancer, so they must adhere to hand hygiene guidelines, avoid contact with individuals who are sick, and follow social distancing measures.

Speaking about breast cancer awareness month, Chairman of Medical Oncology at NCCCR Dr. Salha Bujassoum Al Bader said: “Breast cancer is a health concern for women around the world. But if breast cancer is caught early and treated early, survival rates increase significantly and can be near 100 percent. That is why HMC is joining international forces to raise awareness about breast cancer during October. We are encouraging all women to know and understand breast cancer signs and symptoms and to learn more about the screening tests available in Qatar”.

“HMCs continuous effort to raise awareness of breast cancer is the backbone of our overall awareness program. Our goal is to develop a healthy population and a cancer-free generation, stemming from our ongoing commitment to not only offer high-quality cancer care but also to educate the public on practical steps they can take to protect themselves from diseases,” added Dr. Al Bader.

To mark this years Breast Cancer Awareness Month, HMC has organized a month-long social media campaign with several health-related messages to raise awareness of breast cancer and focus on prevention and early detection, both during the pandemic and beyond.

الدوحة: أكد المركز الوطني لعلاج وأبحاث السرطان بمؤسسة حمد الطبية، أنه يواصل تقديم خدماته بشكل كامل للمرضى والمراجعين خلال فترة جائحة كورونا /كوفيد-19/ من خلال توفير الرعاية اليومية والإقامة القصيرة ورعاية المرضى الداخليين وذلك على الرغم من تحديات تقديم رعاية بجودة عالية لمرضى السرطان خلال فترة الوباء.

وقال الدكتور محمد سالم الحسن، المدير الطبي للمركز الوطني لعلاج وأبحاث السرطان، إنه مع الالتزام الكامل بالإجراءات الاحترازية التي وضعتها وزارة الصحة العامة للحد من انتشار فيروس /كوفيد-19/، استمر المركز في تقديم خدمات الرعاية الأساسية لكافة مرضى السرطان ودون المساس بالنتائج العلاجية للمريض والرعاية ككل.

وأضاف أن خدمات رعاية مرضى السرطان مثل الخدمات الأخرى بمؤسسة حمد الطبية كانت قد اعتمدت عددا من الإجراءات الجديدة التي تضمن الحفاظ على أفضل مستوى ممكن للرعاية المقدمة للمرضى.

واحتفاء بشهر التوعية بسرطان الثدي، حث المسؤولون في مؤسسة حمد الطبية مرضى سرطان الثدي والأمراض السرطانية الأخرى على اتخاذ تدابير وقائية إضافية لتجنب الإصابة بفيروس /كوفيد -19/ نظرا لما يعانيه بعض مرضى السرطان من ضعف في جهاز المناعة بسبب حالتهم الصحية أو العلاج الذي يخضعون له.

وأكدوا أن ضعف جهاز المناعة يجعل من الصعب محاربة الأمراض مما قد يجعل مرضى السرطان أكثر عرضة للإصابة بمخاطر /كوفيد-19/، كما يمكن أن تتسبب الإصابة بالأعراض المتوسطة لـ/كوفيد-19/ في مضاعفات خطيرة لدى مصابي السرطان، لذا ينبغي على هؤلاء المرضى الالتزام بتعليمات نظافة اليدين وتجنب مخالطة الآخرين من المرضى واتباع إجراءات التباعد الاجتماعي.

من جهتها، قالت الدكتورة صالحة بوجسوم البدر، رئيس طب الأورام بالمركز الوطني لعلاج وأبحاث السرطان في تصريح لها بمناسبة شهر التوعية بسرطان الثدي، إن هذا النوع من السرطان يعتبر مشكلة صحية للنساء حول العالم، لكنه قد تتحقق معدلات شفاء عالية قد تقارب نسبة 100% في حال تم الكشف عنه وعلاجه بشكل مبكر.

وأشارت إلى أن مؤسسة حمد الطبية تشارك الجهات الدولية في رفع مستوى الوعي بسرطان الثدي خلال شهر أكتوبر، وتدعو كافة النساء للتعرف على أعراض الإصابة به ومعرفة المزيد عن الفحوص المتوفرة في دولة قطر للكشف عن المرض.

ولفتت إلى أن جهود المؤسسة المستمرة لزيادة الوعي بسرطان الثدي تعتبر أساس برنامج التوعية الشامل، حيث يتمثل الهدف في تعزيز صحة السكان وإيجاد جيل خال من السرطان وينبع هذا من الالتزام المستمر ليس بتقديم رعاية عالية الجودة لمرضى السرطان فحسب بل كذلك بتثقيف الجمهور بالخطوات العملية التي يمكنهم اتخاذها لحماية أنفسهم من الأمراض. واحتفالا بشهر التوعية بسرطان الثدي لهذا العام تنظم مؤسسة حمد الطبية حملة توعوية على مدار شهر أكتوبر عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي تتضمن رسائل صحية مختلفة بهدف رفع مستوى الوعي بسرطان الثدي وللتركيز على سبل الوقاية من المرض وأهمية الفحص المبكر خلال فترة الوباء وبعده.
