Qatar-Russia 2018 Year of Culture marked by QNL

Doha: As Qatar and Russia celebrate their bilateral relations, the 2018 Year of Culture between the two nations has been supported by Qatar National Library through a series of activities.

Dr. Sohair Wastawy, Executive Director of Qatar National Library, recently participated at the seventh Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum, and delivered a talk on the importance of traditional libraries in the changing technological landscape.

In a visit to the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Library, one of the national libraries in Russia, Dr. Wastawy met with its Acting Director-General, Valentin Sidorin. They discussed joint cultural, scientific and technical projects, and several digital documents from Qatar National Library’s collections were handed over to the Presidential Library to add to their Qatar collection. Both institutions recently signed an agreement to collaborate on areas of mutual interest in the future.

“We are delighted to mark the Year of Culture, a historic occasion between both nations, and an opportunity for us to expand our relationship with libraries in Russia. Our discussions with partner institutions in Russia will result in important historical research and cultural exchange programs,” said Dr. Wastawy

Dr. Wastawy also met with Dr. Efim Rezvan, Deputy Director, Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamera), Russian Academy of Sciences. During their meeting, she illustrated the progress in developing Qatar’s library culture, and the Library’s approach to the digitization and preservation of history.

IFLA Preservation and Conservation (PAC) Center at Qatar National Library and IFLA PAC Center in Russia organized a learning exchange program to provide vocational training for a member of the Library’s preservation and conservation team. Chanaka Perera, Conservation Technician at Qatar National Library, participated in a week-long training course and a conference that took place in Russia.

In collaboration with the International Center for Music in Doha, the Library organized an evening of Russian music last week.

شاركت مكتبة قطر الوطنية في واحدة من أهم الفعاليات الثقافية في روسيا، وأبرمت اتفاقيات التعاون المشترك مع كبرى المؤسسات في روسيا. وهي مستمرة كذلك في تنظيم العديد من الفعاليات التي تحتفي بالثقافة الروسية في المكتبة، بهدف تعزيز التعاون المشترك مع المؤسسات الثقافية الروسية.

وشاركت الدكتورة سهير وسطاوي -المديرة التنفيذية لمكتبة قطر الوطنية- مؤخراً، في منتدى سان بطرسبرج الثقافي الدولي السابع الذي اختار دولة قطر ضيفاً للشرف، وألقت محاضرة حول استمرار أهمية المكتبات التقليدية حتى في ظل التطورات التقنية والرقمية السريعة التي يشهدها قطاع المكتبات والمعلومات.

كما التقت الدكتورة سهير وسطاوي، خلال زيارتها مكتبة بوريس يلتسن الرئاسية، بالسيد فالنتين سيدورين القائم بأعمال المدير العام. وتناولا خلال المناقشات التي جرت بينهما مشاريع التعاون المشترك بين المكتبتين في مجالات الثقافة والعلوم والتكنولوجيا، وأهدت مكتبة قطر الوطنية العديد من الوثائق الرقمية من مجموعاتها ومقتنياتها المختلفة لإضافتها إلى مجموعة الوثائق حول قطر في مكتبة يلتسن الرئاسية. وكانت المكتبتان قد وقّعتا في وقت سابق اتفاقية للتعاون المستقبلي في المجالات ذات الاهتمام المشترك. وقالت الدكتورة سهير وسطاوي: «إننا سعداء بمشاركتنا في العام الثقافي (قطر روسيا 2018)، وهو مناسبة تاريخية لتوطيد الروابط بين البلدين، وفرصة لنا في مكتبة قطر الوطنية لتوسيع علاقات التعاون مع المكتبات في روسيا. وستسفر مباحثاتنا مع المؤسسات الثقافية الروسية عن إنجاز العديد من الأبحاث والدراسات التاريخية المهمة، وتدشين برامج فعّالة للتبادل الثقافي».

ونظّم مركز الإفلا الإقليمي لصيانة مواد المكتبات والمحافظة عليها للبلدان العربية، بمكتبة قطر الوطنية، برنامجاً لتبادل الخبرات مع نظيره الروسي، لتنظيم دورات تدريبية ومهنية لأعضاء فريق الحفظ والصيانة في مكتبة قطر الوطنية. وقد شارك تشاناكا بيرارا -أخصائي الحفظ في المكتبة- من خلال هذا التبادل في مؤتمر ودورة تدريبية مدتهما أسبوع في روسيا.;
