Museum of Islamic Art ends educational campaign to preserve its collections

Doha: The Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), in collaboration with the Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, on Tuesday finished its educational campaign aimed at preserving its collections to mark Islamic World Heritage Day.
The campaign, which is held on September 25 of each year, aims to raise awareness within the wider community of how the museum uses modern technology to preserve its extensive collections from the natural elements, through a series of social media posts highlighted how the MIA Conservation and Collections teams uses a variety of modern technology to guard against the natural elements and manage the collection.
Dr. Julia Gonnella, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art, said: “Qatar Museums is delighted to support the inaugural Islamic World Heritage Day, which provides us with the opportunity to celebrate our rich Islamic heritage and to highlight the efforts of our teams efforts to protect and preserve our collections. The harsh desert climate in Qatar means that extra special care needs to be taken and we utilize modern technologies, amongst other methods, to preserve our collections for future generations, and the week-long campaign has enabled us to raise awareness about the extensive efforts that go into protecting these artworks and artefacts.”
The social media posts also encouraged children to join in a simple experiment that demonstrated the effects of exposure to sunlight on colors to convey the importance of careful preservation of artworks.

الدوحة: أنهى متحف الفن الإسلامي، التابع لهيئة متاحف قطر، وبالتعاون مع اللجنة الوطنية القطرية للتربية والثقافة والعلوم حملة تثقيفية استهدفت الحفاظ على مقتنياته بمناسبة /يوم التراث في العالم الإسلامي/.
وتهدف الحملة، التي تقام يوم 25 سبتمبر من كل عام، إلى توعية المجتمع بكيفية حفظ المتحف لمقتنياته الواسعة من تأثير العوامل الطبيعية باستخدام الوسائل التقنية الحديثة، من خلال سلسلة من المنشورات على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، تسلط الضوء على كيفية استخدام فريق الترميم والمقتنيات في المتحف لعدد من الوسائل التقنية الحديثة للحماية من تأثير العوامل الطبيعية، والتعامل مع المقتنيات بشكل عام.
وقالت الدكتورة جوليا غونيلا، مديرة المتحف “يسر متاحف قطر أن تدعم الاحتفال الأول بالتراث في العالم الإسلامي، والذي يتيح لنا الفرصة للاحتفاء بتراثنا الإسلامي الغني، وإبراز جهود فريق الترميم التابع لمتاحف قطر في حفظ مقتنياتنا وترميمها، ويتطلب المناخ الصحراوي في قطر مزيدا من العناية الدقيقة بمقتنياتنا باستخدام التكنولوجيا الحديثة ومختلف الأساليب الأخرى للحفاظ عليها للأجيال القادمة، وقد مكنتنا الحملة، من زيادة الوعي بالجهود المكثفة التي تبذل لحماية هذه الأعمال والتحف الفنية”.
يذكر أن منشورات متاحف قطر على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، شجعت الأطفال على المشاركة في تجارب بسيطة توضح تأثير ضوء الشمس على الألوان، وقامت بتثقيفهم حول أهمية الحفظ الدقيق للأعمال الفنية.
