Solid comeback for U.S. service sector

Washington: U.S. service sector’s activity accelerated in September, surpassing its standard level before the Covid-19 pandemic in USA, amid increases in new sales orders and employment. The Institute for Supply Management said yesterday that its index of non-industrial activity rose to 57.8 last month from 56.9 in August. The index surpasses February’s level of 57.3. Any reading above 50 means the growth of the sector, which contributes more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity.
The improvement in services activity is in line with expectations of a record economic recovery in the third quarter following a historic decline in GDP from April to June. The economy received support over the summer from fiscal stimulus measures.

واشنطن: تسارع نشاطُ قطاع الخدمات الأمريكي في سبتمبر، متجاوزًا مُستواه السائد قبيل بدء جائحة «كوفيد-19» في الولايات المتحدة، وسط زيادات في طلبيات التوريد الجديدة والتوظيف. وقال معهد إدارة التوريدات أمس إنّ مؤشره للنشاط غير الصناعي ارتفع إلى 57.8 الشهر الماضي من 56.9 في أغسطس. وبهذا يتجاوز المؤشر مستوى فبراير البالغ 57.3. وتعني أي قراءة فوق الخمسين نموَ القطاع، الذي يسهم بأكثر من ثلثَي النشاط الاقتصادي الأمريكي.
ويتماشى تحسن نشاط قطاع الخدمات مع التوقعات لانتعاش اقتصادي قياسي في الربع الثالث من العام عقب انحدار تاريخي للناتج المحلي الإجمالي في الفترة من أبريل حتى يونيو. وتلقى الاقتصاد دعمًا على مدار الصيف من إجراءات تحفيز مالي.
