Paris: The impact of the coronavirus on travel could threaten 46 million jobs worldwide, according to an aviation group that published its expectations yesterday. The Air Transport Working Group projected that travel slowdown and the slow recovery could threaten 4.8 million aviation workers and more than half of the total 87.7 million jobs supported by the sector directly or indirectly related to the entertainment industries and supply chains.
“We know that a lot of jobs in air transport and the wider aviation economy are threatened,” said Michel Gill, who heads the group representing airlines, airports, aircraft manufacturers and other parties in the sector. The warning came after airlines lowered their air traffic forecasts in 2020 amid renewed outbreaks of coronavirus and travel restrictions, which cast a shadow over expectations. Airlines are pressuring governments to lift quarantines and other travel restrictions that are responsible for exacerbating the downturn and conducting rapid check-ups for Covid -19 at airports instead.

باريس: أفادت توقعات مجموعة في قطاع الطيران، نُشرت أمس، بأن تأثير فيروس كورونا على السفر قد يُهدّد 46 مليون وظيفة على مستوى العالم. وتوقعت مجموعة عمل النقل الجوي أن يُهدد تباطؤ السفر وبطء التعافي 4.8 مليون من العاملين في قطاع الطيران، وما يربو على نصف 87.7 مليون وظيفة إجمالاً يدعمها القطاع على نحو مُباشر أو غير مباشر وتتصل بصناعات الترفيه وسلاسل الإمداد. وقال ميشيل جيل الذي يرأس المجموعة التي تمثل شركات طيران ومطارات وصنّاع طائرات وأطرافًا أخرى في القطاع: «نعلم أن الكثير من الوظائف في النقل الجوي والاقتصاد الأوسع المُعتمد على الطيران مُهدّدة. جاء هذا التحذير بعدما خفّضت شركات الطيران توقعاتها لحركة الطيران في 2020 في ظل تجدد تفشي فيروس كورونا والقيود على السفر وهو ما ألقى بظلاله على التوقعات. وتضغط شركات الطيران على الحكومات لرفع الحجر الصحي وغيره من قيود السفر المسؤولة عن تفاقم التراجع وإجراء فحوصات سريعة لمرض كوفيد-19 في المطارات بدلاً من ذلك.
