IAAF Doha Worlds launch Volunteer Programme

Volunteers based in Qatar and from all over the world can now be part a of an unprecedented global sporting experience as registration opens for the Volunteer Programme at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019.

Taking place for the first time in the Middle East, the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019 will be the biggest sporting event the region has ever hosted. The championships will bring together more than 2000 athletes from 213 world countries, along with 10,000 international guests, spectators and media representatives from around the world, making the efforts of volunteers even more important to the success of the showpiece.

The Local Organising Committee is seeking the help of at least 3,000 volunteers to ensure that operations in competition and non-competition venues are adequately supported, by carrying out vital tasks during the event that runs from 27 September to 6 October.

Volunteers will be assisting the Local Organising Committee in many key areas, including venue management, protocol, accreditation, marketing, media operations, transportation, hospitality and translation.

Nasser Al Sulaiti, Director of Corporate Support Committee at the Local Organising Committee, highlighted the importance of volunteers to the event as he invited them to come forward.

“Volunteers are the spirit of any major sporting event and a championship of such magnitude would never succeed without their valuable contribution,” he said.

“No matter what your age, gender, nationality, skills and physical abilities are, there is a role for you, and everyone can play a part in delivering an unforgettable experience to the country, the region and the world.

“This is a great opportunity for growth and development for volunteers and one that will live with them for the rest of their lives thanks to the skills and experiences they will gain and then implement in their professional and personal lives,” he added.

Dahlan Al Hamad (pictured), Vice Chairman and Director General of the Local Organising Committee and Vice President of the IAAF, said the recruitment of volunteers for the World Championships Doha 2019 aligns with the core message of the championship and the motive behind Qatar’s bid to stage it.

“The reason we are hosting this championship is to introduce athletics to new audiences and inspire a new generation of athletes. Doha has become a global destination for sport and a benchmark for world-class sporting events, and to host the world’s third biggest sporting event we need the energy and enthusiasm of volunteers.

“Qatar is a multicultural and open country and the volunteers will come from diverse nationalities, cultures, backgrounds as well as sporting interests, and they will all be introduced to the world of athletics, which is exactly why we were so keen to bring the World Championships to the region,” Al Hamad added.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to register, and those below that age will require a consent from their guardian.

أعلنت اللجنة المنظمة المحلية لبطولة العالم لألعاب القوى الدوحة 2019، عن فتح باب التسجيل للأفراد الراغبين بالتطوع من داخل قطر ومن جميع أنحاء العالم ليكونوا جزءاً من تجربة رياضية عالمية غير مسبوقة. وستكون بطولة العالم التي ستقام لأول مرة في الشرق الأوسط أكبر حدث رياضي تستضيفه المنطقة على الإطلاق، حيث سيشارك في البطولة أكثر من 2000 رياضي يمثلون 213 دولة حول العالم، بالإضافة إلى توافد 10000 ضيف دولي ومتفرج وإعلامي من خارج قطر، ما يجعل دور المتطوعين الحيوي ومشاركتهم أكثر أهمية لإنجاح الحدث.

تسعى اللجنة المنظمة المحلية إلى تسجيل ما لا يقل عن 3000 متطوع لضمان دعم سير العمليات داخل مواقع المنافسات وخارجها من خلال توليهم عدداً من المهام الحيوية طوال مدة البطولة التي ستقام من 27 سبتمبر إلى 6 أكتوبر من العام الحالي. وتشمل المجالات الرئيسية التي سيساهم بها المتطوعون في عمل اللجنة المنظمة المحلية إدارة مواقع المنافسات والبروتوكول وبطاقات الاعتماد والتسويق والعمليات الإعلامية والنقل والضيافة والترجمة.

وأكد ناصر السليطي رئيس لجنة الدعم الإداري والمالي باللجنة المنظمة المحلية، أهمية المتطوعين في هذا الحدث الضخم وحث الجميع على التطوع بقوله: «المتطوعون هم روح أي حدث رياضي، ولا يمكن لبطولة بهذا الحجم أن تنجح بدون مساهمتهم القيمة. نُرحب بالمتطوعين من الجنسين ومن مختلف الأعمار والجنسيات والمهارات والقدرات البدنية، حيث إن لكل واحد منهم دوراً يساهم فيه حتى نضمن جميعاً تنظيم حدث رياضي لا يُنسى في قطر والعالم».

فرصة لتجربة استثنائية

وأضاف السليطي: «يعتبر هذا الحدث فرصة رائعة للمتطوعين حتى يطوروا من أنفسهم ويضيفوا إلى خبراتهم ويعيشوا تجربة استثنائية ستبقى في ذاكرتهم بفضل ما يكتسبونه من مهارات ستفيدهم في حياتهم المهنية والشخصية».

جيل وجمهور جديدين

وفي السياق نفسه، أشار السيد دحلان الحمد نائب رئيس ومدير عام اللجنة المنظمة المحلية ونائب رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لألعاب القوى، إلى أن اختيار المتطوعين في بطولة العالم الدوحة 2019 يتماشى مع الرسالة الأساسية للبطولة والدافع وراء ترشح قطر لتنظيمها، حيث قال: «إن سبب استضافتنا لهذه البطولة هو تقديم ألعاب القوى إلى جماهير جديدة، وتشجيع جيل جديد من الرياضيين. لقد أصبحت الدوحة وجهة رياضية عالمية، ومرجعاً لكبرى الأحداث الرياضية، ولكي نستضيف ثالث أكبر حدث رياضي على مستوى العالم على أفضل وجه نحتاج إلى طاقة وحماس المتطوعين».

وأضاف الحمد قائلاً: «تتميز دولة قطر بتعدديتها الثقافية وانفتاحها على العالم ولذا سيتوافد المتطوعون من مختلف الجنسيات والأعراق والاهتمامات الرياضية، وهي فرصة رائعة لهم لكي يعيشوا تجربة ممتعة في عالم ألعاب القوى، وهذا كان أحد أهم أسباب سعينا لاستضافة بطولة العالم لألعاب القوى في المنطقة».

وحدد اللجنة المنظمة رابطاً على موقع البطولة لتعبئة استمال التقديم مع شروط تتعلق بالعمر بأن لا يقل عن 18 عاماً.

يشار إلى أنه تم طرح تذاكر البطولة للبيع للمشجعين والعائلات في جميع أنحاء العالم في شهر سبتمبر من العام الماضي ويمكن الحصول عليها من خلال الموقع الرسمي للاتحاد الدولي لألعاب القوى.

ومع أسعار المقاعد المعقولة التي تبدأ من 58 ريالاً بيعت الكثير من التذاكر ونفذت بعض الفئات بالفعل قبل ستة أشهر من انطلاق البطولة في استاد خليفة الدولي.
