Nasser Al-Attiyah the runner-up of the Dakar International Rally

Riyadh: Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah won the second place ” the runner-up” in the competitions of the forty-third edition of the Dakar International Desert Rally, which was held in Saudi Arabia for the second time in a row, after the conclusion of the last twelfth stage, which was held yesterday between Yanbu and Jeddah for a distance of 452 km, of which 225 km were speed stage.

Al-Attiyah, accompanied by French navigator Matthew Bommel, in a Toyota car, came second with a total time of 44.42.03 hours, a difference of 13 minutes and 51 seconds, behind French Rally champion Stéphane Peterhansel, accompanied by his navigator and fellow countryman Edouard Boulanger, in a mini-Cooper car, who occupied the first place and achieved the title in total time of 44.28.11 hours, while the Spanish driver Carlos Sainz, accompanied by navigator Lucas Cruz in a mini-Cooper car, finished third with a total time of 45.29.08 hours, an hour and 57 seconds behind the leader.

Polish driver Jacob Przygonski, accompanied by German navigator Timo Gottschalk, finished fourth with a total time of 47.03.14 hours, while Spaniard Nani Roma, accompanied by French navigator Alexander Winock, completed the top five list with a total time of 47.49.59 hours.

Al-Attiyah, who is 50 years old, won the runner-up title, his fifth in the history of his participation in the Dakar Desert Rally which he began in 2004, the most prominent in the world, after 2010, 2016, 2018 and 2020, noting that Al-Attiyah won the title three times in 2011 (Volkswagen) and 2015. (mini-Cooper), and 2019 (Toyota).
The title of the Dakar Rally is the fourteenth for France’s Peterhansel (55 years old) and nicknamed “Mr. Dakar” due to his dominance of the rally, which was held for the second year in a row in Saudi Arabia. It is also his eighth title in the car category, in addition to six previous wins in the motorcycle category.

Peterhansel won the Dakar titles in 1991, 1992, 1993, then 1995, 1997 and 1998, to set a world record in the motorcycle category, which is “the world’s toughest rally”. The Frenchman participated in his first race in Dakar Paris in the car category in 1990 with Nissan, then won his first rally in 2004 with Mitsubishi, before winning again in 2005 and 2007.
Peterhansel continued his brilliance in the world’s most famous rally and won the title again in 2012 and 2013 (with mini-Cooper), then in 2016 and 2017 with Peugeot, before achieving his last title this year with mini-Cooper again.

Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah expressed his sorrow for not being able to regain the Dakar International Rally title, especially as his ambition was to win the title and award it to lovers and fans of motorsports in Qatar, noting that he is the only Arab driver to compete with these big teams in motorsport.

Al-Attiyah said, in a press statement, that everyone saw the difference between the buggy and four-wheel drive cars in the rally this year, which greatly affected the chance to win the title, looking forward to achieving the title next season.
He explained that next year he will work to break the records in the Dakar Rally, after raising the number of his victories in the Dakar stages to 41, just 9 stages away from the legendary Finnish record holder Ari Vatanen.

In terms of Qatari participation, driver Khalifa Al-Attiyah, accompanied by Italian navigator Paulo Seska, managed to finish the world rally during his first participation in ninth place in the overall standings in the T4 / SSV / category, after finishing the race with a total time of 58.23.20 hours.

In the motorcycle category, which witnessed the death of French driver Pierre Cherpin during his transfer to France, as a result of an injury in the head as a result of a fall during the seventh stage of the rally, Argentine Kevin Benavides (Honda) won the motorcycle category at the end of the last twelfth stage between Yanbu and Jeddah, which was won by the American Ricky Brabec (Honda), the 2020 champion.
In the overall standings, Benavides beat Brabec by 4.56 minutes and 15.57 over Britain’s Sam Sunderland (KTM).

الرياض: أحرز السائق القطري ناصر العطية المركز الثاني “الوصيف” ضمن منافسات النسخة الثالثة والأربعين من رالي داكار الدولي الصحراوي التي أقيمت في السعودية للمرة الثانية تواليا، وذلك بعد ختام المرحلة الثانية عشرة الأخيرة والتي أقيمت اليوم بين ينبع وجدة لمسافة 452 كلم بينها 225 مرحلة خاصة بالسرعة.

وجاء العطية بصحبة ملاحه الفرنسي ماثيو بوميل على متن سيارة “تويوتا” في المركز الثاني بزمن إجمالي قدره 44.42.03 ساعة وبفارق 13 دقيقة و51 ثانية عن الفرنسي ستيفان بيترهانسيل البطل التاريخي للرالي بصحبة ملاحه ومواطنه إدوار بولانجيه على متن سيارة /ميني كوبر/ الذي احتل المركز الأول وحقق اللقب بزمن إجمالي قدره 44.28.11 ساعة، فيما حل السائق الإسباني كارلوس ساينز بصحبة ملاحه لوكاس كروز على متن سيارة “ميني كوبر” في المركز الثالث بزمن إجمالي قدره 45.29.08 ساعة وبفارق ساعة و57 ثانية عن صاحب المركز الأول.

وحل السائق البولندي جاكوب برزيغونسكي بصحبة ملاحه الألماني تيمو جوتشالك في المركز الرابع بزمن إجمالي قدره 47.03.14 ساعة، بينما أكمل الإسباني ناني روما بصحبة ملاحه الفرنسي ألكسندر وينوك قائمة المراكز الخمسة الأولى بزمن إجمالي قدره 47.49.59 ساعة.

وحصول العطية، البالغ من العمر 50 عاما، على لقب الوصيف هو الخامس له في تاريخ مشاركاته التي استهلها عام 2004 في داكار الرالي الصحراوي الأبرز عالميا، وذلك بعد أعوام 2010 و2016 و2018 و2020 ، علما بأن العطية حقق اللقب ثلاث مرات أعوام 2011 (فولكسفاجن) و2015 (ميني) ، و2019 (تويوتا).

ولقب رالي داكار هو الرابع عشر للفرنسي بيترهانسيل (55 عاماً) والملقب بـ”السيد دكار” لهيمنته على الرالي الذي أقيم للعام الثاني على التوالي في السعودية، كما أنه اللقب الثامن له عن فئة السيارات إلى جانب ستة تتويجات سابقة في فئة الدراجات النارية.

وظفر بيترهانسل بألقاب داكار عام 1991، 1992، 1993، ثم 1995 و1997 و1998، ليسجل رقماً قياسياً في فئة الدراجات النارية التي تعد “السباق الأصعب في العالم”.

وشارك الفرنسي بأول سباق له في داكار باريس عن فئة السيارات عام 1990 مع نيسان، ثم أحرز انتصاره الأول في الرالي، عام 2004 مع ميتسوبيشي، قبل أن يجدد فوزه فيه عامي 2005 و2007.

وواصل بيترهانسل تألقه في الرالي الأشهر عالميا وحصد اللقب من جديد عامي 2012 و2013 (مع ميني)، ثم عامي 2016 و2017 مع بيجو، قبل أن يحقق لقبه الأخير هذا عام مع ميني مرة أخرى.

وأعرب السائق القطري ناصر العطية عن حزنه لعدم قدرته على استعادة لقب رالي داكار الدولي خاصة أن طموحه كان إحراز اللقب ومنحه لمحبي وعشاق رياضة السيارات في قطر، مشيرا إلى أنه السائق العربي الوحيد الذي ينافس هذه الفرق الكبيرة في رياضة السيارات.

وقال العطية، في تصريح صحفي، إن الجميع رأي الفرق بين سيارات الباغي والرباعية الدفع في الرالي هذا العام وهو ما أثر بصورة كبيرة على فرصة في الفوز باللقب، متطلعا لتحقيق اللقب في الموسم المقبل.

وأوضح أنه في العام المقبل سيعمل على تحطيم الأرقام في رالي داكار، وذلك بعدما رفع عدد انتصاراته في مراحل دكار إلى 41 فوزا على بعد 9 مراحل فقط من صاحب الرقم القياسي الفنلندي الأسطوري آري فاتانن.

وعلى صعيد المشاركة القطرية، تمكن السائق خليفة العطية بصحبة ملاحه الإيطالي باولو سيسكا، من إنهاء الرالي العالمي خلال مشاركته الأولى في المركز التاسع بالترتيب العام ضمن فئة تي4 /SSV/، بعدما أنهى السباق بزمن إجمالي قدره 58.23.20 ساعة.

وفي فئة الدراجات النارية التي شهدت وفاة السائق الفرنسي بيار شيربان خلال نقله إلى فرنسا، متأثراً بالإصابة التي تعرّض لها في رأسه جراء سقوطه خلال المرحلة السابعة من الرالي، حسم توج الأرجنتيني كيفين بينافيديس (هوندا) بلقب فئة الدراجات النارية، في ختام المرحلة الثانية عشرة الأخيرة بين ينبع وجدة التي أحرزها الأميركي ريكي برابيك (هوندا) حامل لقب 2020.

وفي الترتيب العام، تفوق بينافيديس على برابيك بـ4.56 دقائق و15.57 على البريطاني سام سندرلاند (كيه تي أم).
