Northwestern Qatar Researchers Awarded QNRF, QF Research Grants

Doha: Faculty and researchers from Northwestern University in Qatar have been awarded four grants from the Qatar National Research Fund’s (QNRF) Undergraduate Research Experience Program (UREP) and two collaborative research grants by the Qatar Foundation’s (QF) Education City Innovation in Teaching Grant program.

Marking the occasion, Dean and CEO of Northwestern Qatar Marwan Kraidy said: “By utilizing their expertise in the field of journalism, critical security studies, and digital media, these researchers are boosting Qatars strategy to be a thriving knowledge society while also advancing the future of research and collaborative engagements in academia to new heights.” Professors Khaled Al Hroub, Eddy Borges-Rey, Hasan Mahmud, and Spencer Striker are among the faculty awarded the grants by QNRF’s Undergraduate Research Experience Program. As part of their projects, they will work with students from Northwestern Qatar to examine digital citizenship in the Arab world, higher education in Qatar, the Palestinian diaspora in Qatar, and the history of global pandemics.

In addition to the grants by QNRF, faculty and researchers from Northwestern Qatar were also awarded grants through QF’s Education City Innovation in Teaching Grant program for projects examining religious pluralism and critical security studies. These grants are awarded to cross-institution research projects by faculty in Education City and Qatar to implement creative and innovative pedagogical approaches in the classroom.

Northwestern Qatar faculty, researchers, and students engage in a variety of research and creative scholarship across academic and research disciplines, including advertising and strategic communication, African studies, media, and digital literacy, science and technology studies, and several other topics related to the Global South and the region.

الدوحة: حصل أساتذة وباحثون من جامعة نورثويسترن- قطر، إحدى الجامعات الشريكة لمؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، على أربع منح من برنامج خبرة الأبحاث للطلبة الجامعيين التابع للصندوق القطري لرعاية البحث العلمي (QNRF)، ومنحتين بحثيتين تعاونيتين من برنامج منح الابتكار التعليمي في المدينة التعليمية بمؤسسة قطر.

وبهذه المناسبة، قال الدكتور مروان الكريدي عميد جامعة نورثويسترن قطر ومديرها التنفيذي: “إن هؤلاء الباحثين يوظفون خبراتهم في مجالات الصحافة والدراسات الأمنية النقدية والوسائط الرقمية، لتعزيز استراتيجية دولة قطر الهادفة نحو تكوين مجتمع معرفي مزدهر، والارتقاء بمستقبل البحث والمشاركة في الأوساط الأكاديمية إلى آفاق جديدة”.

وتضم قائمة الأساتذة الحاصلين على منح برنامج خبرة الأبحاث للطلبة الجامعيين التابع للصندوق القطري لرعاية البحث العلمي، كلا من: الأستاذ خالد الحروب، والأستاذ إدي بورجس ري، والأستاذ حسن محمود، والأستاذ سبنسر سترايكر، حيث سيعملون مع طلبة من جامعة نورثويسترن- قطر لدراسة المواطنة الرقمية في العالم العربي، والتعليم العالي في قطر، إلى جانب الشتات الفلسطيني في قطر، وتاريخ الأوبئة العالمية.

كما حصل الأساتذة والباحثون من جامعة نورثويسترن- قطر على الدعم من خلال برنامج منح الابتكار التعليمي في المدينة التعليمية بمؤسسة قطر، من أجل مشاريع تتناول التعددية الدينية والدراسات الأمنية النقدية، علما بأن هذه المنح تقدم لمشاريع بحوث أعضاء هيئة التدريس عبر مؤسسات المدينة التعليمية لتنفيذ مناهج تربوية إبداعية ومبتكرة في الفصل الدراسي.

يشار إلى أن أعضاء هيئة التدريس والباحثين والطلبة في الجامعة، يشاركون في مجموعة متنوعة من البحوث والمنح الإبداعية عبر التخصصات الأكاديمية والبحثية، ومنها الإعلان والاتصال الاستراتيجي، والدراسات الإفريقية، والإعلام، ومحو الأمية الرقمية، ودراسات العلوم والتكنولوجيا، والعديد من المواضيع الأخرى المتعلقة بالجنوب العالمي والمنطقة.
