More Than Miyagi premiere on Friday

Doha: A number of international channels and some digital platforms are preparing to present the premiere of the martial arts film “More Than Miyagi” next Friday, and the film produced by Byrad Yyelland, Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Design Arts in Qatar ,one of Qatar Foundation’s partner universities, and Michael John Arigi, official and head of the Department of Security and Safety at the University, is a biography of the international Japanese artist Bab Morita, best known for re-enacting the role of Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid.
The film features interviews of a number of celebrities, including Ralph Machiyo, William Zapca, Martin Cove, Henry Winkler, Isai Morales, Tommy Chung and James Hong. Morita’s unexpected journey from a boy with myeloid tuberculosis, who is tied to a bed, overcame drug abuse, to his rise as a Hollywood star who became famous for his association with martial arts.
“As someone who started learning taekwondo as a teenager, being able to co-produce a documentary about Pat Morita is the culmination of my association with martial arts,” says Michael Arrigi. In 1984, when Karate Kid was released, Morita became a household name. It was good to have a chance to highlight the essence of a person who has not received formal martial arts training and has been nominated for an Academy Award, and has starred in many television roles and films.”

الدوحة: يستعد عدد من القنوات العالمية، وبعض المنصات الرقمية لتقديم العرض الأول لفيلم الفنون القتالية «مورذان مياجي» وذلك يوم الجمعة المُقبل، والفيلم الذي قام بإنتاجه بايراد ييلاند، الأستاذ المُساعد في جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث كلية فنون التصميم في قطر «إحدى الجامعات الشريكة لمؤسسة قطر»، ومايكل جون أريغي، مسؤول ورئيس قسم الأمن والسلامة في الجامعة. يحكي السيرة الذاتية للفنان الياباني العالمي باب موريتا والمعروف بإعادة تمثيل دور السيد مياجي في فيلم «طفل الكاراتيه».
ويُقدم الفيلم على مدار ساعة ونصف الساعة مقابلات مع عدد من المشاهير منهم: رالف ماتشيو وويليام زابكا ومارتن كوف وهنري وينكلر وإيساي موراليس وتومي تشونغ وجيمس هونغ. رحلة موريتا غير المُتوقعة من صبي مُصاب بالسُل النخاعي ومُقيد بالسرير، تغلب على تعاطي المُخدرات، إلى صعوده كنجم هوليود والذي ذاع صيته لارتباطه بفنون الدفاع عن النفس.
وفي هذا السياق يقول مايكل أريغي: «بصفتي شخصًا بدأ تعلم التايكوندو في سن المُراهقة، فإن القدرة على المُشاركة في إنتاج فيلم وثائقي عن بات موريتا هي ذروة ارتباطي بفنون الدفاع عن النفس. مضيفًا: في عام 1984 وعندما تم إصدار فيلم «كارتيه كيد»، أصبح موريتا اسمًا مألوفًا. كان من الجيد الحصول على فرصة لإبراز جوهر الشخص الذي لم يتلق تدريبًا رسميًا في فنون القتال وتم ترشيحه لجوائز الأوسكار، ولعب دور البطولة في العديد من الأدوار التلفزيونية والأفلام».
