QRCS to deploy 26 medical convoy to treat 14,000 poor patients in 10 countries

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has outlined a plan to expand its annual programme of medical convoys, which provide healthcare for poor patients in affected or underserved communities.

By the donations of charity givers in Qatar, delegations of physicians, surgeons and medical assistants are sent by QRCS to poor countries, where they treat poor patients, perform surgeries in many specialisations and provide in-service training for medical personnel.

Also, QRCS procures surgical equipment and consumables for the host hospitals.

During 2019, QRCS deployed 10 medical convoys, providing treatment for 7,645 patients in orthopaedics, cardiac catheterisation for children, general surgery, urology, ENT, treatment of eye disease and anti-blindness interventions.

Costing a total of QR3,389,396, these achievements were made in the West Bank, Gaza (two times), Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Turkey (two times) and Sudan (three times).

This year, there are plans to deploy 26 medical convoys to 10 countries (Ethiopia, Afghanistan, Sudan, Mauritania, Iraq, Pakistan, Turkey, Palestine, Lebanon and Bangladesh. In total, over 14,000 patients will undergo surgical procedures in cleft lip and cleft palate surgery, fistula, eye treatment and anti-blindness, general surgery, urology, cardiothoracic surgery, ENT, plastic surgery and orthopaedics.

Other operations will include cardiac catheterisations for children and adults, as well as GP consultations.

In Ethiopia, two medical convoys will be deployed, one to treat 100 children with cleft lips/palates (QR365,000), while the other to treat anal fistula among 50 newly delivering mothers (QR1,825,000).

In Afghanistan, two medical convoys will be deployed: one will perform eye surgeries and provide medications and eyeglasses for 500 patients (QR250,000), and the other one will perform cardiac catheterisations for 230 children born with heart defects (QR2,300,000).

In Sudan, there will be seven medical convoys, including four for performing eye surgeries and securing medications and eyeglasses for 1,000 patients in West Darfur, South Kordofan, and Kassala States (QR1mn).

The remaining three will be as follows: one for performing general and urology surgeries for 100 patients (QR350,000), another for offering GP consultations for 400 patients in south Kordofan (QR200,000), and a third one performing for general surgery 100 patients in South Kordofan (QR350,000).

In Mauritania, there will be deployed two medical convoys, one to perform cardiac catheterisations for 70 children with congenital heart defects (QR700,000), and the other to perform cardiac catheterisations for 50 adult patients (QR 500,000).

In Iraq, a medical convoy will be deployed to perform general surgeries for 240 patients, at a cost of QR552,000. In Pakistan, a medical convoy costing QR300,000 will perform thoracic surgeries for 100 patients.

Turkey will host five medical convoys as follows: urology and ENT for 300 Syrians (QR547,500); urology, plastic surgery and general surgery for 200 Syrians (QR550,000); cardiac catheterisations for 100 Syrians (QR500,000); and urology, cardiology, eye and orthopaedics for 50 Syrians ($1,297,750).

In Palestine, QRCS will deploy three medical convoys: cleft lip and cleft palate surgery for 65 children at the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) hospital in Hebron (QR340,837); another one in urology for 50 patients (QR340,837); and support of specialised surgical procedures applied at Palestine’s

hospitals, for the benefit of 200 patients (QR730,000).

“When moving to Lebanon, we will see on the agenda a medical convoy to perform eye surgeries and distribute treatment and eyeglasses to 10,000 patients (QR5,292,500). Finally, a medical convoy will perform cardiac catheterisations for 80 children suffering heart issues. These interventions will cost a total of QR800,000,” QRCS said.

وضع الهلال الأحمر القطري خطة طموحة للتوسع في برنامج القوافل الطبية الذي ينفذه سنوياً، من أجل توفير الرعاية الصحية والعمليات الجراحية التخصصية للمرضى غير القادرين في البلدان المنكوبة أو التي تعاني من نقص الإمكانيات الطبية، بتمويل من حصيلة تبرعات أهل البر والإحسان في دولة قطر.

وتتضمن القوافل الطبية إرسال فرق من الأطباء والجراحين والكوادر الطبية المساعدة، الذين يتطوعون مع الهلال الأحمر القطري للسفر إلى البلدان المحتاجة وتقديم الخدمات العلاجية للمرضى الفقراء، وإجراء العمليات الجراحية لهم في العديد من التخصصات الطبية، فضلاً عن تدريب الكوادر الطبية على أحدث التطورات في مجال الطب، هذا بالإضافة إلى تكفل الهلال الأحمر القطري بتكاليف تجهيز المستشفيات المضيفة بالأجهزة والمستلزمات الجراحية.

وخلال عام 2019، نفذ الهلال الأحمر القطري 10 قوافل طبية ساهمت في علاج إجمالي 7,645 مريضاً في تخصصات جراحة العظام، وقسطرة القلب للأطفال، والجراحة العامة، وجراحة المسالك البولية، وجراحة الأنف والأذن والحنجرة، وعلاج أمراض العيون ومكافحة العمى. وشملت القوافل، التي بلغ إجمالي تكلفتها 3,389,396 ريالاً، كلاً من الضفة الغربية، وقطاع غزة (مرتان)، وأفغانستان، وبنغلاديش، وتركيا (مرتان)، والسودان (3 مرات).

وفي العام الجاري، ينوي الهلال الأحمر القطري إرسال 26 قافلة طبية إلى 10 بلدان هي: أثيوبيا، أفغانستان، السودان، موريتانيا، العراق، باكستان، تركيا، فلسطين، لبنان، بنغلاديش. ويبلغ إجمالي عدد المستفيدين من هذه القوافل أكثر من 14,000 مريض في تخصصات: جراحة شقوق الشفة والحنك (الشفة الأرنبية)، جراحة الناسور البولي لدى الأمهات، علاج أمراض العيون ومكافحة العمى، عمليات قسطرة القلب للأطفال والكبار، الجراحة العامة، جراحة المسالك البولية، الاستشارات الطبية العامة، جراحة الصدر، جراحة الأنف والأذن والحنجرة، جراحة التجميل، جراحة القلب، جراحة العظام.

وفيما يلي استعراض لتفاصيل برنامج القوافل الطبية المزمع تنفيذها خلال عام 2020 بإذن الله:

1. أثيوبيا: تسيير قافلتين طبيتين الأولى لإجراء جراحات شقوق الشفة والحنك لفائدة 100 طفل بتكلفة 365,000 ريال، والثانية لإجراء جراحات الناسور البولي لفائدة 50 أم حديثة الولادة بتكلفة 1,825,000 ريال.

2. أفغانستان: تسيير قافلتين طبيتين الأولى لإجراء جراحات العيون وتوفير العلاج والنظارات الطبية لفائدة 500 مريض بتكلفة 250,000 ريال، والثانية لإجراء عمليات قسطرة القلب لفائدة 230 طفلاً يعانون من عيوب وتشوهات خلقية في القلب (القلوب الصغيرة) بتكلفة إجمالية 2,300,000 ريال.

3. السودان: تسيير 7 قوافل طبية، منها 4 قوافل لإجراء جراحات العيون وتوفير العلاج والنظارات الطبية لفائدة 1,000 مريض في ولايات غرب دارفور وجنوب كردفان وكسلا بتكلفة 1,000,000 ريال، وقافلة طبية لإجراء عمليات في تخصصي الجراحة العامة وجراحة المسالك البولية لفائدة 100 مريض بتكلفة 350,000 ريال، وقافلة طبية لتقديم استشارات طبية عامة لفائدة 400 مريض في ولاية جنوب كردفان بتكلفة 200,000 ريال، وقافة طبية لإجراء عمليات في تخصص الجراحة العامة لفائدة 100 مريض في ولاية جنوب كردفان بتكلفة 350,000 ريال.

4. موريتانيا: تسيير قافلتين طبيتين الأولى لإجراء عمليات قسطرة القلب لفائدة 70 طفلاً يعانون من عيوب وتشوهات خلقية في القلب (القلوب الصغيرة) بتكلفة 700,000 ريال، والثانية لإجراء عمليات قسطرة القلب لفائدة 50 مريضاً بتكلفة إجمالية 500,000 ريال.

5. العراق: تسيير قافلة طبية لإجراء عمليات في تخصص الجراحة العامة لفائدة 240 مريضاً بتكلفة 552,000 ريال.

6. باكستان: تسيير قافلة طبية لإجراء جراحات الصدر لفائدة 100 مريض بتكلفة 300,000 ريال.

7. تركيا: تسيير 5 قوافل طبية الأولى لإجراء عمليات في تخصصي جراحة المسالك البولية والأنف والأذن والحنجرة لفائدة 300 مريض سوري بتكلفة 547,500 ريال، وأخرى لإجراء عمليات في تخصصات جراحة المسالك البولية والتجميل والجراحة العامة لفائدة 200 مريض سوري بتكلفة 550,000 ريال، وثالثة لإجراء عمليات قسطرة القلب لفائدة 100 مريض سوري بتكلفة 500,000 ريال، وأخيراً قافلة طبية لإجراء عمليات في تخصصات جراحة المسالك البولية والقلب والعيون والعظام لفائدة 50 مريضاً سورياً بتكلفة 1,298,750 ريالاً.

8. فلسطين: تسيير 3 قوافل طبية الأولى لإجراء جراحات شقوق الشفة والحنك لفائدة 65 طفلاً في مستشفى جمعية الهلال الأحمر الفلسطيني بالخليل بتكلفة 394,609 ريالات، وأخرى لإجراء عمليات في تخصص جراحة المسالك البولية لفائدة 50 مريضاً بتكلفة 340,837 ريالاً، والأخيرة لدعم الخدمات الجراحية التخصصية المقدمة في المستشفيات الفلسطينية لفائدة 200 مريض بتكلفة 730,000 ريال.

9. لبنان: تسيير قافلة طبية لإجراء جراحات العيون وتوفير العلاج والنظارات الطبية لفائدة 10,000 مريض بتكلفة 5,292,500 ريال.

10. بنغلاديش: تسيير قافلة طبية لإجراء عمليات قسطرة القلب لفائدة 80 طفلاً يعانون من عيوب وتشوهات خلقية في القلب (القلوب الصغيرة) بتكلفة إجمالية 800,000 ريال.
