Get your umbrellas ready: Wasmi season begins in Qatar next Friday

Doha: The Qatar Meteorology Department on Monday said the onset of Wasmi season will start in the country next Friday (October 16).

Wasmi season is the local term for rain season, during which the country witnesses a drop in temperatures, winds, storms and rainfall for 52 days.

The rainfall during this season also helps certain local plants such as helianthemum and geranium grown. During this period, clouds move from west to east, and rainfall in the beginning of the season is usually an indication of a good rainy season.

Climate records indicate that maximum temperatures decrease gradually in Doha during this season to reach less than 35 degree Celsius and minimum temperatures fall to about 20 degree Celsius, with overall mild temperatures during daytime and relatively cool temperatures at night, especially with dry northwesterly winds.

Flu and other seasonal diseases are common during this transitional period. Experts recommend taking flu vaccinations, washing hands regularly and avoiding direct contact with infected people.

موسم الوسمي هو المصطلح المحلي لموسم الأمطار، الذي تشهد البلاد خلاله انخفاضًا في درجات الحرارة رياحاً وعواصف وهطولاً للأمطار لمدة 52 يومًا.

كما يساعد هطول الأمطار خلال هذا الموسم بعض النباتات المحلية على النمو مثل الرقروق والغرنوقي. خلال هذه الفترة، تتحرك السحب من الغرب إلى الشرق، وعادة ما يكون هطول الأمطار في بداية الموسم مؤشرا على موسم جيد للأمطار.

وتشير السجلات المناخية إلى أن درجات الحرارة القصوى تنخفض تدريجياً في الدوحة خلال هذا الموسم لتصل إلى أقل من 35 درجة مئوية وتنخفض درجات الحرارة الدنيا إلى حوالي 20 درجة مئوية، مع درجات حرارة معتدلة بشكل عام خلال النهار ودرجات حرارة باردة نسبيا في الليل، خاصة مع الرياح الشمالية الغربية الجافة.

إن الإنفلونزا وغيرها من الأمراض الموسمية شائعة خلال هذه الفترة الانتقالية. يوصي الخبراء بأخذ لقاحات الإنفلونزا وغسل اليدين بانتظام وتجنب الاتصال المباشر مع الأشخاص المصابين.
