Grant from World Bank to Support Palestinian Efforts to Confront COVID-19

Ramallah: The World Bank announced its approval of a new grant, estimated at USD 25 million, to support the efforts of Palestinian municipalities to confront the repercussions of the Corona pandemic (Covid-19).
In a statement issued on Saturday, the bank said that it agreed to provide a grant of USD 15 million to help Palestinian municipalities continue providing vital services and providing job opportunities for families whose income has been affected by the Corona crisis. In addition, the Palestinian Partnership Trust Fund for Infrastructure Development, administered by the World Bank, will provide additional funding from donors in the amount of USD 10 million to finance the third phase of the municipal development project.
The additional grants will support the implementation of the Coronavirus crisis emergency response activities within the municipalities by expanding the provision of support through the third project for the development of municipalities that is being implemented, the statement explained, in addition this grant will support the provision of public goods in emergency situations, and finance the recurring costs of the municipalities to ensure the continuity of the necessary services.
Palestinian Minister of Health Dr. Mai Al Kailah announced yesterday, Friday, that 19 deaths and 1826 new cases of Coronavirus had been recorded during the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases recorded in the Palestinian territories since the outbreak of the pandemic to 216914 cases, while the number of deaths reached 2315 cases.
Two days ago, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a presidential decree declaring a state of emergency in the Palestinian territories for a period of thirty days, starting from the day before yesterday (Thursday), in order to confront the Coronavirus (Covid-19) and limit the spread of the virus.
The Palestinian government imposes a partial closure in the West Bank from seven in the evening until six in the morning, from Sunday to Thursday, and a complete closure on Friday and Saturday to confront the spread of the Coronavirus, and it also prevents the holding of wedding parties and mourning gatherings.

رام الله: أعلن البنك الدولي موافقته على منحة جديدة تقدر بـ25 مليون دولار، لدعم جهود البلديات الفلسطينية في مواجهة تداعيات جائحة كورونا /كوفيد ـ 19/.
وقال البنك، في بيان صدر هنا يوم الأمس، إنه وافق على تقديم منحة بقيمة 15 مليون دولار لمساعدة البلديات الفلسطينية على مواصلة تقديم الخدمات الحيوية وتوفير فرص العمل للأسر التي تضرر دخلها من جراء أزمة كورونا. كما أن الصندوق الائتماني للشراكة الفلسطينية لتطوير البنية التحتية، الذي يديره البنك الدولي، سيقدم تمويلاً إضافياً من المانحين بمقدار 10 ملايين دولار لتمويل المرحلة الثالثة من مشروع تطوير البلديات.
وأوضح أن المنح الإضافية ستساند تنفيذ أنشطة الاستجابة العاجلة لأزمة كورونا داخل البلديات بالتوسع في تقديم الدعم من خلال المشروع الثالث لتطوير البلديات الجاري تنفيذه، فضلا على أن هذه المنحة ستدعم توفير المنافع العامة في حالات الطوارئ، وتمويل التكاليف المتكررة للبلديات لضمان استمرارية الخدمات الضرورية.
وكانت الدكتورة مي الكيلة وزيرة الصحة الفلسطينية أعلنت أمس /الجمعة/، تسجيل 19 حالة وفاة و1826 إصابة جديدة بفيروس “كورونا” خلال الـ24 ساعة الأخيرة، ليبلغ إجمالي عدد حالات الإصابة بالفيروس المسجلة في الأراضي الفلسطينية منذ ظهور الجائحة 216914 حالة، فيما بلغ عدد حالات الوفاة 2315 حالة.
وقبل يومين أصدر الرئيس الفلسطيني محمود عباس، مرسوما رئاسيا بإعلان حالة الطوارئ في الأراضي الفلسطينية لمدة ثلاثين يوما، اعتبارا من أول أمس /الخميس/، وذلك لمواجهة جائحة فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/، والحد من انتشار الفيروس. وتفرض الحكومة الفلسطينية إغلاقا جزئيا في الضفة الغربية من الساعة السابعة مساء حتى السادسة صباحا، من الأحد إلى الخميس، وإغلاقا كليا يومي الجمعة والسبت لمواجهة انتشار فيروس كورونا، كما تمنع إقامة حفلات الأعراس وتجمعات العزاء.
