John le Carré: Espionage writer dies aged 89

London: John Le Carré, the king of British espionage novels, died at the age of 89 from severe pneumonia, according to his agent and his family. “It is with great sadness that I announce the death of David Cornwell, known throughout the world as John Le Carré, after a short illness (not related to Covid-19) in the Cornwall area on Saturday evening,” John Geller, president of the London-based Curtis Brown Group, said in a statement via the website of this technical agency: “He is at the age of eighty-nine. Our thoughts go to his four children, their families, and his dear wife Jane.” In a letter published by Le Carré’s agent, the family confirmed the death of the famous novelist from “acute pneumonia Saturday night after a short battle with the disease.” Jean Le Carré wrote 25 novels and a collection of notes called “The Pigeon Tunnel” in 2016. He has sold more than 60 million books worldwide. Many of Le Carré ‘s successful works have been taken to the big screen or television, including “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy” in 2011 starring British actor Gary Oldman.

لندن: توفي جون لو كاريه ملك روايات التجسس البريطاني عن 89 عامًا جراء إصابته بالتهاب رئوي حاد على ما قال وكيل أعماله وعائلته. وقال جون غيلر رئيس مجموعة «كورتيس براون» ومقرها في لندن في بيان عبر الموقع الإلكتروني لهذه الوكالة الفنية «بحزن كبير أعلن وفاة ديفيد كورنويل المعروف في العالم بأسره باسم جون لو كاريه بعد مرض قصير (غير مرتبط بكوفيد-19) في منطقة كورنويل مساء السبت. وهو في سن التاسعة والثمانين. تتجه أفكارنا إلى أبنائه الأربعة وعائلاتهم وزوجته العزيزة جاين». وأكدت العائلة في رسالة نشرها وكيل أعمال لو كاريه، وفاة الروائي الشهير من «التهاب رئوي حاد مساء السبت بعد معركة قصيرة مع المرض». وكتب جون لو كاريه 25 رواية ومجموعة مذكرات بعنوان «ذي بيجن تانل» سنة 2016. وباع أكثر من 60 مليون كتاب حول العالم. واقتُبس الكثير من أعمال لو كاريه الناجحة إلى الشاشة الكبيرة أو التلفزيون، بينها «تينكر تايلور سولدجر سباي» في 2011 من بطولة الممثل البريطاني غاري أولدمان.
