MME: Afforestation of Roads, Areas Will Start Upon Completion of Irrigation Networks

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment affirmed that the cultivation and afforestation of roads and areas of roads and areas will be carried out upon completion of the irrigation networks with treated water, as the basis of agricultural projects is to ensure continuity.

During a press conference held Monday at the Ministry’s headquarters within the “interview with Official” program organized by the Public Relations and Communication Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, Director of the Public Parks Department Mohammed Ali Al Khoury, stated that the ministry is working in this context in full coordination with the Public Works Authority “Ashghal”, which is making great efforts to expedite the extension of irrigation networks and treated water in the projects it is implementing.

The Director of the Public Parks Department explained that the ministry relies in its cultivation on Qatari environment trees, which do not need large amounts of water and are commensurate with the nature of the climate and soil, pointing out that the Ministry has its nurseries that supply the state with the plants it needs, as well as distribute them to the citizens.

He added that the administration relies on the latest programs for the care of the plants, pointing out the focus on shade trees in the streets and the diversity of trees in the gardens, which provides knowledge for children and adds beauty to these areas.

Al Khoury affirmed that the new projects depend on shade trees without fruiting, given that most of the roads in Doha are highways, so they do not need permanent care and to play their role in reducing carbon dioxide, dust and harmful and greenhouse gases, pointing out that green areas and Landscapes in streets and parks need continuous follow-up and periodic maintenance.

Al Khoury noted that there are 104 public parks throughout Qatar and that the areas of these parks are linked to the availability of land in these areas, indicating that the new planning of the state provides in each residential square a garden and paths for walking and bicycles.

Regarding the Million Tree Initiative, the Director of the Public Parks Department affirmed that it comes within the framework of harmonizing the environment and health and a reflection of the State of Qatar’s signature on many international agreements such as the Convention on Biological Diversity and the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and other environmental agreements that take into account health in their decisions.

He stated that the importance of the Million Tree Initiative comes from the fact that green areas are the lung through which cities breathe, as well as to preserve vegetation cover in Qatar.

Al Khoury noted that the Million Tree Initiative, launched by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and contributed to by all state authorities, is scheduled to achieve its goals before the 2022 Qatar World Cup, adding it will continue beyond and the process of afforestation in Qatar will never end.

الدوحة: أكدت وزارة البلدية والبيئة أن زراعة وتشجير الطرق والمناطق تتم فور الانتهاء من توفير شبكة ري بالمياه المعالجة لأن أساس المشاريع الزراعية هو ضمان الاستمرارية.

وقال السيد محمد علي الخوري مدير إدارة الحدائق العامة، خلال مؤتمر صحفي عقد اليوم بمقر الوزارة ضمن برنامج “لقاء مع مسؤول” الذي تنظمه إدارة العلاقات العامة والاتصال بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، إن الوزارة تعمل في هذا الإطار بالتنسيق التام مع هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” التي تبذل جهودا كبيرة لتسريع تمديد شبكات الري والمياه المعالجة في المشروعات التي تقوم بتنفيذها.

وبين مدير إدارة الحدائق العامة أن الوزارة تعتمد في زراعاتها على أشجار البيئة القطرية التي لا تحتاج إلى كميات كبيرة من المياه وتتناسب مع طبيعة المناخ والتربة، مشيرا إلى أن لدى الوزارة المشاتل الخاصة بها التي تمد الدولة بما تحتاجه من نباتات وكذلك توزع منها على المواطنين.

وتابع بأن الإدارة تعتمد على أحدث برامج الرعاية والعناية بالمزروعات من خلال توفير الأسمدة ومحسنات التربة التي تسهم في تقليل اعتماد النبات على المياه بما لا يؤثر على نموه وجودته، مشيرا إلى التركيز على أشجار الظل في الشوارع وتنوع الأشجار في الحدائق بما يتيح المعرفة لدى الأطفال ويضفي جمالا على هذه المناطق ويعرف الرواد بأنواع الأشجار والنباتات القطرية.

وأكد الخوري أن المشاريع الجديدة تعتمد على أشجار الظل دون المثمرة نظرا لأن معظم الطرق في الدوحة سريعة “هاي واي” وحتى لا تحتاج إلى عناية دائمة وحتى تؤدي دورها في التقليل من ثاني أكسيد الكربون والأتربة والغازات الضارة والدفيئة.. لافتا إلى أن المسطحات الخضراء و”اللاند سكيب” في الشوارع والحدائق تحتاج إلى متابعة مستمرة وصيانة دورية وأن الوزارة تتبع أحدث التكنولوجيا في هذا الإطار، حيث تتم متابعة وري هذه الحدائق والمسطحات من خلال غرف تحكم مركزية بما يقلل العمالة ويوفر المياه.

ونبه الخوري إلى أن هناك 104 حدائق عامة في جميع أنحاء قطر وأن مناطق هذه الحدائق مرتبط بتوافر أراض في هذه المناطق، مبينا أن التخطيط الجديد للدولة يوفر في كل مربع سكني حديقة ومسارات للمشي والدراجات.

وعن مبادرة “المليون شجرة” أكد مدير إدارة الحدائق العامة أنها تأتي في إطار المواءمة بين البيئة والصحة وانعكاسا لتوقيع دولة قطر على العديد من الاتفاقيات الدولية كاتفاقية التنوع الحيوي واتفاقية فيينا بشأن حماية طبقة الأوزون وغيرها من الاتفاقيات البيئية التي تراعي الصحة في مقرراتها.

وأفاد بأن مبادرة المليون شجرة تأتي أهميتها لكون المسطحات الخضراء من الناحية الصحية هي الرئة التي تتنفس من خلالها المدن، والحفاظ على الغطاء النباتي في قطر لتعزيز الأثر البيئي للمشاريع والبرامج التي يحتمل تأثيرها على البيئة وبالتالي على صحة أفراد المجتمع أيضاً.

ونبه الخوري إلى أن مبادرة المليون شجرة التي دشنها معالي رئيس مجلس الوزراء ووزير الداخلية وتساهم بها جميع جهات الدولة من المقرر لها أن تحقق أهدافها قبل مونديال /قطر 2022/، لكنها مستمرة لما بعده وأن عملية التشجير في قطر أبدا لن تنتهي.
