G7 Launches New Economic Initiative to Support Global Supply Chains

Tokyo: The leaders of the Group of Seven agreed Saturday to adopt a new economic initiative that supports global supply chains and pledged to take steps to deter economic coercion.
The initiative, dubbed Coordination Platform on Economic Coercion, will use early warning and rapid information sharing on economic coercion with members meeting regularly for consultations, the G7 leaders said in a statement.
“We are taking additional steps today to enhance our ongoing strategic coordination on economic resilience and economic security by reducing vulnerabilities and countering malign practices that exploit and reinforce them,” the statement explained.
“We underline the importance of cooperating both within the G7 as well as with all our partners to enhance global economic resilience, including by supporting a more significant role for low and middle-income countries in supply chains,” the statement said.
“We will address non-market policies and practices designed to reinforce dependencies and will counter economic coercion. We will continue to ensure that the clearly defined, narrow set of sensitive technologies that are crucial for national security or could threaten international peace and security are appropriately controlled, without unduly impacting broader trade in technology.” Earlier, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan confirmed that the G7 would agree on a set of tools to combat “economic coercion.” The G7 leaders are meeting in Hiroshima, Japan, for the second day to discuss the Russian-Ukrainian war and the challenges facing the global economy.

وأضافت المجموعة في سياق متصل : “إن محاولات تسليح التبعيات الاقتصادية من خلال إجبار أعضاء مجموعة السبع وشركائنا، بمن فيهم الاقتصادات الصغيرة، على الاستجابة والامتثال سيفشل وسيواجه عواقب”.
وفي وقت سابق، أكد جيك ساليفان مستشار الأمن القومي الأميركي أن مجموعة السبع ستتفق على جملة من الأدوات لمكافحة “الإكراه الاقتصادي”.
ويجتمع زعماء مجموعة السبع في مدينة /هيروشيما/ باليابان لليوم الثاني على التوالي لمناقشة الحرب الروسية -الأوكرانية والتحديات التي يواجهها الاقتصاد العالمي.
يذكر أن مجموعة السبع هي منظمة تتكون من أكبر سبع دول اقتصادية على مستوى العالم، وهي كندا، وفرنسا، وألمانيا، وإيطاليا، واليابان، والمملكة المتحدة، والولايات المتحدة الأميركية .
