Qatar’s Play “The Sultan” opens 12th Alexandria International Theater Festival

Alexandria: The Qatari show “The Sultan” by artist Salem Al-Mansouri opened the events of the 12th edition of the Alexandria International Theater Festival, which kicked off on Friday evening at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina.
In a statement, the artist Salem Al-Mansouri expressed his happiness to present the opening performance at the Alexandria International Theater Festival in front of the Egyptian audience, pointing out that his presence among the Egyptian brothers is of particular importance to him.
He expressed his hope that the play will be liked by the audience and critics, pointing out that the message presented by the play “the Sultan” focuses on renouncing violence and hatred, and at the same time emphasizes that people’s satisfaction is an incomprehensible goal.
For his part, president of the Alexandria International Theater Festival Ibrahim Al-Furn welcomed Qatar’s participation for the first time in the festival’s activities through “The Sultan” play, noting that three Egyptian and 12 foreign performances were selected out of 156 Egyptian and 69 foreign performances submitted to the festival.
He added that there are other international participants for the first time from countries such as Kosovo, Romania, and Algeria, pointing out that among the participating Arab performances are the play “Daughter of the moon” from Egypt,”Just Portrait” from the Sultanate of Oman, “Ghurba” from Tunisia, “Black Box” from Iraq, “Al Kheish w Al Khayasha” from Algeria, and “The 6th Column” from Kuwait.
The 12th edition of the Alexandria International Theater Festival bears the name of the late artist Samir Ghanem, and the opening ceremony of the festival witnessed a minute of mourning for the soul of the artist Hisham Selim, who passed away last Thursday.
The festival program includes six training workshops in theater directing, costumes, cinematography, improvisation, and criticism, presented by specialists from Spain, Palestine, and Egypt.
The Alexandria International Theater Festival was founded by Dr. Gamal Yaqout, professor at the Faculty of Arts at Alexandria University, and aims to focus on low-cost performances that rely mainly on the performance of actors.

وفي تصريح له أعرب الفنان سالم المنصوري عن سعادته بتقديم عرض الافتتاح في مهرجان الإسكندرية المسرحي الدولي أمام الجمهور المصري، مشيرا إلى أن تواجده وسط الأشقاء المصريين يحمل أهمية خاصة بالنسبة له.
وعبر عن أمله في أن تنال المسرحية إعجاب الجمهور والنقاد، لافتا إلى أن الرسالة التي تقدمها مسرحية “السلطان” تركز على نبذ العنف والكراهية، وتؤكد في الوقت نفسه أن رضا الناس غاية لا تدرك.
من جانبه، رحب الفنان إبراهيم الفرن رئيس مهرجان الإسكندرية المسرحي الدولي، في تصريحات لوكالة الأنباء القطرية /قنا/، عن ترحيبه بمشاركة قطر لأول مرة في فعاليات المهرجان من خلال عرض مسرحية /السلطان/، منوها بأنه تم اختيار ثلاثة عروض مصرية، و12 أجنبية من بين 156 عرضا مصريا و69 أجنبيا، تقدمت للمهرجان.
وأضاف أن هناك مشاركات دولية أخرى لأول مرة من بلدان مثل: كوسوفو، ورومانيا، والجزائر، مشيرا إلى أن من بين العروض العربية المشاركة مسرحية /بنت القمر/ من مصر، و/مجرد بورتريه/ من سلطنة عمان، و/غربة/ من تونس، و/بلاك بوكس/ من العراق، و/الخيش والخياشة/ من الجزائر، و/الطابور السادس/ من الكويت.
وتحمل الدورة الثانية عشرة لمهرجان الإسكندرية المسرحي الدولي اسم الفنان الراحل سمير غانم، كما شهد حفل افتتاح المهرجان الوقوف دقيقة حداد على روح الفنان هشام سليم الذي وافته المنية يوم الخميس الماضي.
ويتضمن برنامج المهرجان ست ورش تدريب في الإخراج المسرحي، والأزياء، والسينوغرافيا، والارتجال، والنقد، يقدمها متخصصون من إسبانيا، وفلسطين، ومصر.
يشار إلى أن مهرجان الإسكندرية المسرحي الدولي تأسس على يد الدكتور جمال ياقوت الأستاذ بكلية الآداب في جامعة الإسكندرية، ويهدف إلى التركيز على العروض ذات التكلفة المنخفضة التي تعتمد بشكل أساسي على أداء الممثلين.
