VCUarts Qatar to Launch Online Exhibition

Doha: Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar), a Qatar Foundation (QF) partner university, will launch the online exhibition of this year’s graduating cohort of artists and designers on Monday.

The online show is a collective presentation of the skills and talents of VCUarts Qatar’s Class of 2021, made up of 85 graduates.

Design for the ageing, homelessness, cultural conservation in Qatar, gender stereotyping, third culture kids, mental well-being, nationality and identity, social hierarchies, and accessories, are some of the themes that have been examined by this year’s cohort of Fashion Design, Graphic Design, Interior Design, MFA in Design, and Painting + Printmaking graduates.

“Our first BFA + MFA online show last year resulted in even greater reach, allowing industry and media professionals to view and appreciate the talent and creativity at VCUarts Qatar,” said Dean of VCUarts Qatar Amir Berbic. “This year, we’re continuing in the same vein, and we’re thrilled to present the work of our graduating Class of 2021 to you. The projects on display show how this graduating group – despite the circumstance they were in – have ventured off the beaten track to explore areas as diverse as issues that affect humanity across the globe, to those that offer a quirky, lighter twist on the ordinary and the everyday.”

“The Class of 2021 follows in the footsteps of alumni who are making their mark in the four corners of the globe. Some of them have been recognized through international awards – such as the International Property Awards, and the Red Dot Award – while others have had their work displayed at prestigious exhibitions and events in places such as Doha, London, Berlin, Moscow, Paris, Hong Kong and others.”

Despite most of the academic year being held online, VCUarts Qatar ensured that students had access to resources that would allow them to incorporate techniques such as animation, textile design, silk printing, fabrication technology, visual languages, product, print and website design, typography, home fashion merchandising, building code requirements, interior graphics, printmaking, digital painting, screen-printing, lithography, computer programming, and photographic stencil techniques, in their final projects.

VCUarts Qatar offers students the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in fashion design, graphic design, interior design and painting and printmaking, a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in design.

الدوحة: أعلنت جامعة /فرجينيا كومنولث/ كلية فنون التصميم في دولة قطر، إحدى الجامعات الشريكة لمؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، عن انطلاق معرضها السنوي لأعمال خريجي هذا العام عبر الإنترنت، وذلك اليوم الاثنين.

يقدم المعرض عرضا جماعيا عبر الإنترنت لمهارات ومواهب ( 85 ) خريجًا ، تتنوع تصاميمهم لتشمل: الحفاظ على الثقافة في دولة قطر، والأنماط بين الجنسين ، وأطفال الثقافة الثالثة ، والرفاهية العقلية ، والجنسية والهوية ، والتسلسل الهرمي الاجتماعي، والإكسسوارات ، وتصاميم للشيخوخة ، وغيرها،

من أقسام تصميم الأزياء ، تصميم الغرافيك، التصميم الداخلي، الرسم والطباعة وخريجي الماجستير في التصميم.

وتحدث الدكتور أمير بيربتش عميد الجامعة بهذه المناسبة، قائلا ً “قمنا العام الماضي بعرض أعمال خريجي برنامج بكالوريوس وماجستير الفنون الجميلة لأول مرة عبر الإنترنت، وحقق العرض وصولاً أكبر من المعتاد، حيث سمح لمحترفي الصناعة بمشاهدة وتقدير المواهب والإبداع في جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث كلية فنون التصميم في دولة قطر”.

وأضاف “يسعدنا أن نقدم لكم أعمال دفعة خريجينا لهذا العام 2021 ، وتُظهر المشاريع المعروضة كيف غامرت هذه المجموعة من المتخرجين، وتسير الدفعة على خطى خريجينا السابقين الذين يتركون بصماتهم في أركان العالم ، حيث تم الاعتراف ببعض هذه الأعمال من خلال الجوائز الدولية ، مثل جوائز العقارات الدولية، وجائزة Red Dot – بينما عرض البعض الآخر أعمالهم في المعارض والفعاليات المرموقة في أماكن مثل الدوحة ولندن وبرلين وموسكو وباريس، وهونغ كونغ وغيرها”.

وعلى الرغم من أن معظم العام الدراسي أقيم عبر الإنترنت، فقد حرصت جامعة فرجينيا كومنولث، كلية فنون التصميم في قطر، على أن يتمكن الطلاب من الوصول إلى الموارد التي تسمح لهم بدمج التقنيات المتنوعة في تصاميمهم ومشاريعهم النهائية مثل الرسوم المتحركة وتصميم المنسوجات والطباعة الحريرية وتكنولوجيا التصنيع واللغات المرئية والمنتج والطباعة وتصميم المواقع الإلكترونية، إضافة إلى تسويق الأزياء المنزلية ومتطلبات رموز البناء والرسومات الداخلية والرسم الرقمي والطباعة الحريرية والطباعة الحجرية وبرمجة الكمبيوتر وتقنيات استنسل لنسخ الصور وغيرها.
