Nearly 45,000 Chinese visited Doha in 2017, says envoy

The China’s ambassador to Qatar, Li Chen, said yesterday that the number of Chinese tourists who visited Doha in 2017 reached nearly 45,000, an increase of 26% compared to the previous year, while the volume of trade between the two countries reached about QR10bn last year, rising by 35% compared to the year before.

The ambassador was speaking at a press conference, held as part of the preparations of the Chinese embassy in Doha to celebrate the 30 anniversary of the establishment of the Qatari-Chinese relations next Wednesday.

Chen attributed the rise in tourists to efforts made by the Qatar Tourism Authority to attract tourists, opening of representative offices in China and exemption in pre-entry visa for Chinese.

The ambassador praised the economic reforms and investment laws adopted by Qatar recently, including allowing full foreign ownership in many sectors, and other measures that contribute to enhancing the flow of investments and increasing the volume of trade between the two countries.

He noted that China is Qatar’s fourth largest trading partner and is the world’s second-largest importer of the Qatari LNG, affirming that co-operation between the two countries in the field of energy is proceeding normally and Qatar is a reliable supplier of energy worldwide.

He ruled out any impact of the Gulf crisis on trade relations between the two countries, explaining that there is a growing interest from Chinese companies and banks to create opportunities in the Qatari market, to join more than 20 major Chinese companies already operating in Qatar.

Ambassador Chen said that the Chinese embassy will organise events for two days to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Qatari-Chinese relations, which falls on July 9. The activities include a ceremony on Wednesday, followed by a cultural activity for a Chinese band in Katara on Thursday.

He underlined that the Qatari-Chinese relations, which were established in 1988, have become more mature and stronger, and achieved many interests for both sides, noting that the co-operation between the two countries has enabled the two sides to enter a new stage of integration and promote common benefits in the fields of economy, culture, tourism and other fields that will lead the relationship

towards a promising future.

The ambassador highlighted the historic relations between the two friendly peoples, which date back to 1,300 years, since the Chinese voyages came to the Arabian Peninsula, noting that these relations developed with the establishment of the diplomatic relations in 1988 to enter a new stage of

development on all levels.

He praised the security co-operation between the two countries and their association with a joint agreement to strengthen security and fight terrorism, and the mutual understanding, trust and political support in the international forums.

“The levels and areas of co-operation between the two countries are increasing and becoming stronger by years, noting the co-operation between Qatar and China in construction of a power plant in Pakistan with investments

estimated at $2bn.”

The Chinese ambassador hailed Qatar’s support to China’s Belt and Road Initiative, as an important contributor to the initiative and a founding member of its main financier, the Asian Investment Bank, stressing that the initiative will play a major role in strengthening

the relations further.

On his country’s position on the siege imposed on Qatar, the ambassador said that China had announced its support for the Kuwaiti mediation and dialogue between all brotherly countries, stressing that Beijing, which has good relations with all parties, is keen on ending the crisis between the Gulf brothers.

“Qatar has dealt with the crisis with self-restraint and balanced way, and avoided escalation and tension and expressed willingness to resolve the crisis through dialogue, praising in this context the decisions adopted by Doha to address the shortage of food commodities, especially in the early days of the crisis. قال سعادة السيد لي تشن سفير جمهورية الصين الشعبية لدى دولة قطر، إن عدد السائحين الصينيين الذين وفدوا إلى الدوحة خلال العام الماضي 2017، بلغ نحو 45 ألف سائح بزيادة قدرها 26 بالمئة، مقارنة بالعام الذي قبله، فيما بلغ حجم التبادل التجاري بين البلدين نحو 10 مليارات ريال العام الماضي، مسجلا نموا بنسبة 35 بالمئة مقارنة بالعام الذي قبله.

جاء ذلك خلال مؤتمر صحفي عقده السفير الصيني اليوم، في إطار استعداد سفارة بلاده بالدوحة للاحتفال بعد غد الأربعاء، بمرور 30 عاما على تأسيس العلاقات القطرية الصينية.

وأشار تشن، إلى توقعات بزيادة أعداد السائحين الصينيين إلى الدوحة في ظل الجهود الفاعلة التي بذلتها الهيئة العامة للسياحة لجذبهم عبر افتتاح مكاتب للترويج السياحي في بلاده، فضلا عن إعفاء دولة قطر مؤخرا الصينيين ضمن مواطني 80 دولة، من التأشيرة المسبقة لدخول البلاد.

ونبه في مؤشر آخر بنيت عليه هذه التوقعات، إلى أن عدد السائحين الصينيين في الخارج بلغ 140 مليون سائح العام الماضي، معربا عن أمله في استحواذ الدوحة على حصة أكبر من هذا العدد خلال السنوات المقبلة.

وأشاد سعادته بالإصلاحات الاقتصادية والقوانين الاستثمارية التي اعتمدتها الدوحة في الفترة الأخيرة، بما في ذلك السماح للمستثمرين الأجانب بالتملك بنسبة 100 بالمئة في معظم القطاعات الاقتصادية، وغير ذلك من إجراءات من شأنها تعزيز تدفق الاستثمارات وزيادة حجم التبادل التجاري بين البلدين.

وأوضح أن الصين التي تعد رابع شريك تجاري لقطر هي المستورد الثاني عالميا للغاز الطبيعي القطري المسال، مؤكدا أن التعاون بين البلدين في مجال الطاقة يسير بشكل طبيعي، وأن قطر مورد للطاقة موثوق به على مستوى العالم، مستبعدا وجود أي تأثير للأزمة الخليجية على العلاقات التجارية بين البلدين، “بل هناك اهتمام متزايد من الشركات والبنوك الصينية لإيجاد فرص في السوق القطرية، للانضمام إلى أكثر من 20 شركة صينية كبرى تعمل في قطر.”

وقال إن السفارة الصينية ستنظم على مدى يومين فعاليات احتفالية بمناسبة مرور 30 عاما على تأسيس العلاقات القطرية الصينية، الذي يصادف يوم التاسع من شهر يوليو الجاري، من بينها حفل ينظم بعد غد الأربعاء، على أن يتبعه نشاط ثقافي لفرقة صينية في كتارا في الخميس الموالي.

وأشار سعادة السفير الصيني إلى أن العلاقات الصينية القطرية التي بدأت في العام 1988، باتت أكثر نضوجا وقوة وحققت العديد من المصالح للطرفين، مبينا أن التعاون بين البلدين خلال الـ 30 عاما مكن من دخولها، مرحلة جديدة من التكامل وتعزيز المنافع المشتركة في مجالات الاقتصاد والثقافة والسياحة وغيرها من ميادين ستمضي بالعلاقات نحو آفاق مستقبلية واعدة.

ونبه إلى أن العلاقات بين الشعبين الصديقين ضاربة في أعماق التاريخ وتعود لأكثر من 1300 عام، منذ أن كانت الرحلات البحرية تأتي من الصين إلى منطقة شبه الجزيرة العربية، وهي علاقات استمرت وتطورت مع تأسيس العلاقات الدبلوماسية عام 1988 لتدخل إلى مرحلة جديدة من التطور على كافة الاصعدة.

وأكد سعادة السيد لي تشن سفير جمهورية الصين الشعبية لدى دولة قطر، أن العلاقات القطرية الصينية تشهد نموا متصاعدا في المجالات السياسية والاقتصادية والدفاعية والأمنية والثقافية والرياضية والتعليمية، بالإضافة إلى التعاون في مجالات الطاقة والمال والصناعة والأمن والدفاع، منوها بالتعاون الامني بين البلدين وارتباطهما باتفاقية مشتركة لتعزيز الأمن ومكافحة الإرهاب، وما يجمعهما من تفهم وثقة ودعم سياسي متبادل على مستوى المحافل الدولية.

وأضاف أن مستويات ومجالات التعاون بين البلدين تزداد سعة وقوة سنة بعد أخرى، منوها بتعاون قطر والصين في إقامة محطة توليد للكهرباء في باكستان باستثمارات تقدر بملياري دولار، وهو مشروع يتم مناصفة بين شركات قطرية وأخرى صينية.

ونوه سعادة السفير الصيني فيما يتعلق بمبادرة الحزام والطريق الصينية، بالدعم الذي تقدمه قطر في هذا المجال باعتبارها مساهما مهما في المبادرة وعضوا مؤسسا لممولها الرئيس، بنك الاستثمار الآسيوي، مشددا على أن هذه المبادرة ستلعب دورا بارزا في تعزيز العلاقات بين البلدين، انطلاقا من تماشيها مع توجهات الدوحة نحو سياسات التنويع الاقتصادي وتطوير قطاعي الصناعة والخدمات، في الوقت الذي ستخدم فيه مبادرة الحزام والطريق، مصالح التجارة الدولية لقيامها على مبدأ التشاور وتحقيق المنفعة المشتركة للجميع.

وحول موقف بلاده من الحصار المفروض على قطر، قال سعادة السفير الصيني، إن بلاده أعلنت منذ اللحظة الاولى للأزمة دعمها للوساطة الكويتية واطلاق حوار بين كافة الدول الشقيقة، مؤكدا أن بكين التي تربطها علاقات جيدة مع جميع الأطراف مهتمة بإنهاء الأزمة بين الأشقاء الخليجيين.

وأضاف في هذا السياق، أن “قطر تعاملت مع الأزمة بسياسة ضبط النفس وبشكل متزن وتجنبت التصعيد والانفعال وأبدت الاستعداد لحلها عبر الحوار”.. مشيدا في هذا السياق بالقرارات التي اتخذتها الدوحة لمواجهة نقص السلع الغذائية خاصة في الايام الأولى لها.;
