10 places that reveal the past in Qatar

Qatar has many tourist, leisure and historical destinations, dozens of destinations from museums to old neighborhoods, places that combine the past and the present, and predict the future. The question here is: Which places should you visit if you want a trip through history in Qatar?

1. Msheireb Museums

With a collection of four historic sites, Msheireb Museums is the best place in Qatar to enjoy historic and ancient places.

2- Radwani House

Part of four restored heritage houses to preserve Qatar’s heritage, Radwani House was built in the 1920s and belonged to Ali Akbar Al-Radwani and his family for nearly 70 years, and Al-Radwani House belongs to one of Qatar’s richest families.

According to Msheireb Museums, while touring Radwani House, an idea of the transformation of Qatari family life can be noticed with the discovery of oil and electricity delivery in Qatar.

This house also paints in mind the images of family and social cohesion that characterized families among themselves, and how to spend time among family members before the emergence of modern means of well-being.

Radwani House underwent a restoration that added a special aesthetic touch, preserving its distinctive original character and local heritage depth, which reflects the identity, culture and past of the place.

3. Bin Jelmood House

The House of Bin Jelmood in Qatar belonged to Muhammad Jelmood, where one could discover the hidden world of the slave trade.

By visiting this house, the visitor learns about the role of Islam and its impact on the system of slavery, the Islamic religion urged to treat slaves well, recommending their rehabilitation and reintegration into society, and recommending the abolition of slavery and the liberation of slaves.

According to The Msheireb Museums website, Bin Jelmood House reviews the boom of the slave trade in the Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf region to Qatar, where the story begins with multiple manifestations of slavery to end with freedom, social integration and shared prosperity.

4- Company House

This house, which was the headquarter of the first oil company that operated in Qatar, tells the stories of Qatari pioneers who worked hard and actively in the oil fields in the past, and who were the first to contribute to a decisive shift in Qatar’s growth during the oil discovery period.

This house also reveals the harsh daily working conditions of those pioneers who worked hard in the hot sun.

5. Mohammed bin Jassim House

This house was built by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim al-Thani, the son of the founder of the modern state of Qatar. The House tells stories from the past and the present, and addresses the sustainability principles that the “Msheireb Downtown Doha” project is about achieving.

Mohammed bin Jassim House includes the first bank, pharmacy, first hotel and first café in Qatar.

6- Al Zubarah Fort

Located in the historic ancient town of Zubarah on the north-west coast of Al-Shamal Town in Qatar, Zubarah Fort is 105 km from Doha.

It is a historic attraction preserved and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

Zubarah Fort is also a museum where visitors can learn more about its history, architecture and past importance.

7. Zekreet Fort

Set amid the tranquil landscape, Zekreet Fort is a historic destination in Qatar dating back to the mid-18th century and located in Dukhan area on Qatar’s west coast.

8- Al Jumail Fishermens Village

The fishing village of Al Jumail in Qatar was a fishing area for locals where fishermen traded fish and pearls.

Built in the 19th century, Al Jumail fishing village, now referred to as Qatar’s ghost town, attracts travellers to discover its history.

There are still some traditionally built houses with destroyed walls, the remains of cups, pottery and other household items in this tourist attraction in Qatar.

9. The Mysterious Village

Qatar’s “mysterious village”, popularly known as Film City, has its surreal beauty, magnificent landscapes and vast desert overlooking the landscape.

The city was built for shooting films and series, but today it is famous as a popular attraction for holiday tourists in Qatar.

10- Souq Waqif

Souq Waqif is one of Qatar’s most prominent tourist destinations that reflect Qatar’s heritage. Popular with locals and expats in Doha, the market is one of Qatar’s most popular and visited tourist destinations.

1- متاحف مشيرب

تضم متاحف مشيرب مجموعة من أربعة مواقع تاريخية، وهي بمثابة أفضل الأماكن في قطر حيث يمكن للمرء الاستمتاع بالأماكن التاريخية والقديمة.

وتتألف من أربعة بيوت تراثية قديمة هي بيت بن جلمود وبيت الشركة وبيت محمد بن جاسم وبيت الرضواني، وشكلت في مجموعها متاحف تراثية ومراكز ثقافية ومعارض مميزة.

2- بيت الرضواني

هو جزء من أربعة بيوت تراثية أعيد ترميمها لحفظ التراث القطري، وتم بناء منزل الرضواني في عشرينيات القرن الماضي، وكان ملكاً لعلي أكبر الرضواني وعائلته لمدة 70 عامًا تقريبًا، وينتمي منزل الرضواني إلى واحدة من أغنى العائلات في قطر.

وحسب موقع “متاحف مشيرب”، فأثناء التجول في بيت الرضواني يمكن تكوين فكرة عن التحول الذي طرأ على حياة العائلة القطرية مع اكتشاف النفط وتوصيل الكهرباء في دولة قطر.

كما يرسم هذا البيت في الأذهان صور الترابط الأسري والاجتماعي التي كانت تتميز بها العوائل فيما بينها، وكيفية قضاء الأوقات بين أفراد العائلة قبل ظهور وسائل الرفاهية الحديثة.

وخضع “بيت الرضواني” لعملية ترميم أضيفت عليه لمسة جمالية خاصة، مع الحفاظ على طابعه الأصلي المميز وعمقه التراثي المحلي، الذي يعكس هوية المكان وثقافته وماضيه.

3- بيت بن جلمود

كان بيت بن جلمود في قطر ملكًا لمحمد جلمود، حيث يمكن للمرء أن يكتشف العالم الخفي لتجارة الرقيق.

ويتعرف الزائر من خلال زيارة هذا البيت على دور الإسلام وتأثيره على منظومة الرِقّ؛ حيث حثّ الدين الإسلامي على حسن معاملة الرقيق والإحسان إليهم، كما أوصى بتأهيلهم وإعادة دمجهم في المجتمع، وأوصى بإبطال الرِقّ وتحرير الرقيق.

ووفق موقع “متاحف مشيرب” يستعرض بيت بن جلمود عهد ازدهار تجارة الرقيق في منطقة المحيط الهندي والخليج العربي وصولاً إلى قطر، حيث تبدأ القصة هناك بمظاهر الرِقّ المتعدّدة لتنتهي بالحرية والاندماج الاجتماعي والرخاء المشترك.

4- بيت الشركة

يسرد هذا البيت، الذي كان مقراً رئيسياً لأول شركة نفط عملت في قطر، قصص الرواد القطريين الذين عملوا بكد ونشاط في حقول النفط قديماً، وكانوا أول من ساهم في إحداث تحوّل حاسم في مسيرة نمو قطر خلال فترة اكتشاف النفط.

كما يكشف لنا هذا البيت ظروف حياة العمل اليومية القاسية التي كان يمر بها أولئك الرواد الذين عملوا بجد تحت أشعة الشمس الحارقة.

5- بيت محمد بن جاسم

تم تشييد هذا البيت من قبل الشيخ محمد بن جاسم آل ثاني رحمه الله، وهو ابن مؤسس دولة قطر الحديثة. ويسرد البيت قصصاً من الماضي والحاضر، كما يتناول مبادئ الاستدامة التي يتمحور مشروع “مشيرب قلب الدوحة” حول تحقيقها.

ويمتلك بيت محمد بن جاسم أول بنك وصيدلية وأول فندق وأول مقهى في قطر.

6- قلعة الزبارة

Rafeek Qatar

تقع قلعة الزبارة في بلدة الزبارة التاريخية القديمة الواقعة على الساحل الشمالي الغربي لمدينة الشمال القطرية، تبعد مسافة 105 كم عن العاصمة الدوحة.

وهي منطقة جذب تاريخية تم الحفاظ عليها والاعتراف بها كموقع للتراث العالمي لليونسكو، ويعود تاريخها إلى القرنين السابع عشر والثامن عشر.

وقلعة الزبارة هي أيضًا متحف حيث يمكن للزوار معرفة المزيد عن تاريخها وهندستها المعمارية وأهميتها في الماضي.

7- قلعة زكريت

تقع قلعة زكريت وسط المناظر الطبيعية الهادئة، وهي وجهة تاريخية في قطر ويعود تاريخها إلى منتصف القرن الثامن عشر وتقع في منطقة دخان على الساحل الغربي لقطر.

8- قرية الجميل للصيد

كانت قرية الجميل للصيد في قطر منطقة صيد للسكان المحليين حيث كان الصيادون يتاجرون بالأسماك واللآلئ.

وبُنيت قرية جميل للصيد في القرن التاسع عشر، ويشار إليها الآن باسم مدينة الأشباح في قطر، وتجذب المسافرين لاكتشاف تاريخها.

ولا تزال توجد هنا بعض المنازل المبنية بشكل تقليدي بجدران مدمرة وبقايا أكواب وفخار وأدوات منزلية أخرى في هذا المعلم السياحي في قطر.

9- القرية الغامضة

تتميز “القرية الغامضة” في قطر، أو المعروفة شعبياً باسم مدينة السينما، بجمالها السريالي والمناظر الطبيعية الرائعة والصحراء الشاسعة المطلة على المناظر الطبيعية.

وبنيت المدينة للأفلام والمسلسلات، ولكن اليوم تشتهر هذه المدينة كمناطق جذب شهيرة للسائحين لقضاء العطلات في قطر.

10- سوق واقف

يعد سوق واقف من أبرز الأماكن السياحية في قطر التي تعكس عراقة وتراث دولة قطر. ويحظى السوق بشعبية كبيرة بين السكان المحليين والوافدين في مدينة الدوحة، ويعتبر من أكثر الاماكن السياحية في قطر شهرةً وزيارةً.
