Qatar Creates Collaborate with F1 Driver Pierre Gasly on Design of Two Racing Helmets by Qatari Artists

Doha: Qatar Creates, the movement which curates, celebrates, and promotes cultural activities within Qatar, today unveiled two custom-design racing helmets created by Qatari artists in partnership with Pierre Gasly, the Formula 1 driver for the Renault Alpine Team.

Crafted by Qatari artists Shouq Al Mana and Alanoud Al Ghamdi, the helmets blend sport and culture in their intricate designs.

The first helmet, designed by Alanoud Al Ghamdi, derives inspiration from the flora and fauna of the desert, its nomadic people, and long-standing traditions. Using textures inspired by the sand, the colour of the Qatari flag, Arabic calligraphy, and the cultural symbol of the horse, the design is closely linked to the Qatari national identity.

In their dedication to making a difference in the local community, Qatar Creates and Pierre Gasly will put Alanoud Al Ghamdi’s helmet up for auction after it is worn in the main race on 8 October, with all proceeds going to charity.

In addition, Qatar Creates will produce a limited edition of three-hundred premium 1:2 scale replicas of the design that will be available for purchase on INQ’s website, and at all participating Qatar Museum Gift Shops, giving both F1 fans and art enthusiasts an opportunity to own a piece of the collaboration.

The second helmet, by Shouq Al Mana, artfully incorporates the Egal, an essential element of Qatari traditional attire which embodies the nation’s heritage and identity. The helmet will be worn for the qualifier and sprint events and will afterwards be exhibited at 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum.

As Qatar prepares to host F1 for the next decade, 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum will mark the occasion with a small-scale exhibition, The Race Begins: Formula 1 Exhibition, on view from 6 October 8 October 2023 at The Paddock Club, Lusail International Circuit.

The exhibition will provide F1 ticketholders with the opportunity to encounter iconic pieces of F1 history, including the Ferrari F1-2000 Formula 1 Racing car driven to victory by Michael Schumacher in the 2000 European Grand Prix races, and the first helmet of F1 legend, Ayrton Senna.

Also on show for F1 attendees to view over duration of the event will be the original Pink Convertible Big by Austrian artist Erwin Wurm, a piece which has been acquired by the future Qatar Auto Museum.

As Qatar Creates continues to establish itself as a frontier for the arts and culture movement in Qatar, this partnership serves as a testament to the country’s burgeoning creative scene and the strong connection between the sports and art industries.

الدوحة: كشفت مبادرة قطر تبدع الستار، عن تصميم خوذتي سباق وذلك خلال سباق جائزة قطر الكبرى ، المقام في حلبة لوسيل الدولية في دولة قطر في الفترة من 6 إلى 8 أكتوبر 2023 ، صممتهما الفنانتان القطريتان شوق المانع والعنود الغامدي، وبالشراكة مع بيير غاسلي سائق فريق رينو ألباين للفورمولا 1.

وتجمع الخوذتان بين الرياضة والثقافة في تصميمهما الغني بالتفاصيل الذي استمدت به الفنانة العنود الغامدي من نباتات وحيوانات الصحراء وسكانها الرحل وتقاليدها العريقة، حيث استخدمت زخارف مستوحاة من الرمال ولون العلم القطري والخط العربي ورمزية الحصان في الثقافة، ما يجعل التصميم مرتبطا ارتباطا وثيقا بالهوية الوطنية القطرية ، أما الخوذة الثانية التي صممتها الفنانة شوق المانع، فتتضمن تصوير فني (للعقال) وهو العنصر الأساسي في الزي التقليدي القطري الذي يجسد تراث الدولة وهويتها، وسيقوم بيير غاسلي سائق فريق رينو ألباين للفورمولا 1 بارتداء الخوذتين خلال التصفيات وسباقات السرعة.

وفي إطار التزامها في ترسيخ مكانتها كمبادرة رائدة لدفع عجلة الفنون والثقافة في دولة قطر، تعتبر قطر تبدع هذه الشراكة شاهدا قويا بين المشهدين الرياضي والفني ، كما يتزامن هذا الحدث مع استعدادات متاحف قطر لافتتاح متحف قطر للسيارات المستقبلي، حيث سيكون متحف قطر للسيارات بمثابة مركز للثقافة والابتكار باعتباره واحدا من أكثر مجتمعات ثقافة السيارات حيوية وشغفا في العالم.

من جهة أخرى، سيقوم متحف قطر الأولمبي والرياضي 3-2-1 بهذه المناسبة بافتتاح معرض بعنوان ويبدأ السباق: معرض الفورمولا 1، حيث سيعرض قطع مميزة من تاريخ الفورمولا 1، منها ” سيارة فيراري F1-2000 للفورمولا 1 التي قادها مايكل شوماخر وحقق بها الفوز في سباقات جائزة أوروبا الكبرى لعام 2000، وأول خوذة اعتمرها أسطورة الفورمولا 1، آيرتون سينا ، كما سيطلع جمهور الفورمولا 1 خلال الحدث على السيارة الأصلية للفنان النمساوي إروين وورم، وهي قطعة اقتناها متحف قطر للسيارات المستقبلي.
