For the first time, China admits its weak covid vaccines

Doha: In a rare admission of the weakness of some Chinese CORONAVIRUS vaccines, the country’s top disease control official said its effectiveness is low and the government is considering blending them to boost their strength.
Chinese vaccines “do not have very high protection rates,” Zhao Fu, director of China’s Centers for Disease Control, told a conference Saturday in southwest China’s Chengdu City.
“Our vaccines are now under official study as to whether we should use them to immunize different groups,” Zhao said.
Researchers in Brazil found that China’s Sinovac vaccine is 50.4 percent effective in preventing infections with mild symptoms, while Pfizer’s vaccine is 97 percent effective.
Beijing has not yet approved any foreign vaccines for use inside China, where the Coronavirus appeared in late 2019.
الدوحة: في اعتراف نادر بضعف بعض لقاحات فيروس كورونا الصينية، قال أكبر مسؤول في مجال مكافحة الأمراض في البلاد إن فعاليتها منخفضة وإن الحكومة تدرس مزجها لتعزيز قوتها.
قال مدير المراكز الصينية للسيطرة على الأمراض، جاو فو، في مؤتمر يوم السبت في مدينة تشنغدو بجنوب غرب الصين، إن اللقاحات الصينية “لا تتمتع بمعدلات حماية مرتفعة للغاية”، وفقا لموقع “الحرة”.
وقال جاو: “لقاحاتنا الآن قيد الدراسة الرسمية فيما إذا كان ينبغي لنا استخدامها في تحصين مختلف الفئات”.
وخلص باحثون في البرازيل أن معدل فعالية لقاح سينوفاك الصيني في الوقاية من الالتهابات المصحوبة بأعراض منخفضة تصل إلى 50.4 بالمئة، بينما بلغت نسبة فعالية لقاح فايزر 97 بالمائة.
ويشار إلى أنّ بكين لم توافق بعدُ على أيّ لقاحات أجنبية للاستخدام داخل الصين، حيث ظهر فيروس كورونا في أواخر عام 2019.
