The Telegraph apologises for article against Qatar Charity

The British newspaper, The Telegraph, published on Monday an apology for two articles, one of which was titled ‘Charity’s links to Qatar raised fears’ published on August 17, 2019, while the other was titled ‘Woman killed during jihadi prison attack worked for British charity boss’ published on October 19, 2019.
In the two articles, the paper said that there were grounds to question the independence of Nectar Trust (a UK charity), arising out of its relationship with Qatar Charity (QC), which was described as a terrorist organisation by Saudi Arabia in both articles.
The Telegraph admitted that there is no reason to question the independence of Nectar Trust. The Charity Commission in the UK has confirmed that the designation of QC as a terrorist organisation had “no legal standing in the UK”. It also apologised for any distress or embarrassment caused by the said articles.

نشرت صحيفة «التلغراف» البريطانيّة الاثنين الماضي اعتذاراً عن مقالين، أحدهما بعنوان «روابط المؤسسة الخيرية بقطر تثير المخاوف» نشر في 17 أغسطس 2019 وآخر بعنوان «المرأة التي قتلت خلال هجوم جهادي على سجن كانت تعمل لصالح رئيس جمعية خيرية بريطانية» نشر في 19 أكتوبر 2019، أشارا إلى أن هناك أسباباً تدعو للتشكيك في استقلالية منظمة Nectar Trust الخيرية بسبب علاقتها مع جمعية قطر الخيرية والتي وصفتها المملكة العربية السعودية بأنها مُنظمة إرهابيّة في المقالين المذكورين.
واعترفت «التلغراف» أنه لا يوجد سبب للتشكيك في استقلالية Nectar Trust وأن هيئة الجمعيات الخيريّة في بريطانيا أكدت أن تصنيف جمعية قطر الخيرية كمنظمة إرهابية ليس له «أساس قانوني في المملكة المتحدة» واعتذرت صحيفة التلغراف عن أي استياء أو إحراج قد سببه نشر المقالين المذكورين أعلاه.
