The birds that eat fire

Researchers have discovered a species of endangered bird living on literally eating “fire”.

Scientists discovered that birds’ desire to try new foods, and food search methods were different, but the strangest was the bird that literally feeds on “fire.”

The New York Times revealed that the “Rufous Treepies” birds, which belong to an intermediate category of crows and parrots, and live near a small temple in the Indian state of Gujarat, literally live on fire. These birds, which eat fire regularly, live on small butter-based candles.

These birds eat these candles, because of the butter, which is rich in nutritional benefits necessary for these birds to survive. To eat those candles, the birds shake the fire on them and then start eating candles, to look as if they are eating fire. The researchers stressed that this shows the significant “behavioral flexibility”, enjoyed by birds, in order to ensure life for as long as possible and to be less susceptible to extinction. “The idea is very simple, the problem was to be able to test it in a convincing way,” said Louis Lefbeffer, professor at The Magill University in Montreal.

اكتشف باحثون نوعا من الطيور مهددة بالانقراض تعيش على أكل “النار” حرفيا.

واكتشف العلماء أن رغبة الطيور في تجربة أطعمة جديدة، وطرق البحث عن الطعام مختلفة، لكن أغربها كان ذلك الطائر الذي يتغذى على “النار” حرفيا.

وكشفت صحيفة “نيويورك تايمز” الأمريكية أن طيور “روفوز تريبس” التي تنتمي إلى فئة وسيطة بين طيور الغراب والببغاء، وتعيش بالقرب من معبد صغير في ولاية غوجارت الهندية، تعيش حرفيا على أكل النار. وتعيش تلك الطيورالتي تأكل النار بانتظام على تناول شموع النذور الصغيرة المصنوعة من الزبدة.

وتعمل تلك الطيور على تناول تلك الشموع، بسبب مادة الزبدة الغنية بالفوائد الغذائية الضرورية لكي تعيش تلك الطيور. ولتناول تلك الشموع تهز الطيور النار الموجودة عليها ثم تبدأ بتناول الشموع، ليبدو كما لو أنها تأكل النار. وأكد الباحثون أن هذا يظهر “المرونة السلوكية” الكبيرة، التي تتمتع بها الطيور، من أجل ضمان الحياة لأطول فترة ممكنة ولتكون أقل عرضة للانقراض. ونقلت الدراسة عن لويس ليفبفر، أستاذ جامعة ماجيل في مونتريال: “الفكرة بسيطة للغاية، كانت المشكلة أن تكون قادرًا على اختبارها بطريقة مقنعة”.
