Qatar is ‘stopover’ site for around 300 bird species
قطر محطة مهمة لنحو 300 نوع من الطيور المهاجرة
QNA – Doha:
The World Migratory Bird Day was celebrated on Saturday under the slogan “Birds Connect Our World”.
According to the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), Qatar is an important ‘Stopover’ site for migratory birds, and a permanent residency for about 300 species, including a number of endangered species.
The state also attaches great importance to the protection of wildlife and its natural habitats and has endeavoured in this regard to the establishment of many areas and natural reserves to protect and maintain environmental systems.
Al Karaana lake has become a new habitat for wild and water life, providing a natural and healthy environment that includes different types of birds and pelicans. The lake also provides a green resting station and clean water for migratory birds that pass over the country.
The World Migratory Bird Day which was celebrated for the first time in 2006, is a new global platform aimed at uniting conservation efforts, enhancing knowledge and raising public awareness of the urgent need to protect migratory birds and their habitats, as well as addressing threats to their migratory pathways around the world.
In addition to countries, international organizations, and associations, including those of the United Nations, are participating in this global event.

احتفل العالم باليوم العالمي للطيور المهاجرة، أمس الأول السبت، تحت شعار “الطيور تربط عالمنا”.
وحسب وزارة البلدية والبيئة، فإن دولة قطر تعد محطة مهمة للطيور المهاجرة، ومقراً دائماً لحوالي 300 نوع منها، من بينها عدد من الأنواع المهددة بالانقراض.
كما تولي الدولة أهمية كبيرة لحماية الحياة البرية ومواطنها الطبيعية، وسعت في هذا الصدد إلى إنشاء العديد من مناطق الصون والمحميات الطبيعية، بغرض حماية وصيانة الأنظمة البيئية ومكوناتها.
وقد أصبحت بحيرة الكرعانة موطناً جديداً للحياة البرية والمائية، يوفر بيئة طبيعية وصحية تضم أنواعاً مختلفة من الطيور والبجع وغيرها، كما توفر البحيرة محطة استراحة خضراء، ومياهاً نظيفة لأسراب الطيور المهاجرة التي تمر فوق البلاد.
ويعد اليوم العالمي للطيور المهاجرة الذي احتفل به لأول مرة عام 2006، منصة عالمية جديدة تهدف إلى توحيد جهود المحافظة وتعزيز المعرفة ورفع مستوى الوعي العام بشأن الحاجة الملحة إلى حماية الطيور المهاجرة وموائلها على كل المستويات، وكذا التصدي لتهديدات مسارات هجرتها في جميع أنحاء العالم.
وتشارك في هذا الحدث العالمي، بالإضافة إلى الدول، منظمات وجمعيات عالمية، منها ما هو تابع للأمم المتحدة.
