US envoy, Taliban talks conclude in Doha in positive atmosphere

Doha: The six-day talks between the US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, and members of the political bureau of the Taliban movement in Doha concluded yesterday, where both sides discussed the process of national reconciliation and peace in Afghanistan.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Special Envoy for Counterterrorism and Mediation in Conflict Resolution, Dr Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, said the two sides discussed a number of core issues in a positive atmosphere that reflected their seriousness in achieving progress in the path of reconciliation and achieving peace in Afghanistan.
Dr Al Qahtani told QNA that during the discussions, the two sides discussed the time frame for the negotiations in addition to other issues of withdrawal and the achievement of national reconciliation in a sustainable manner, adding that they agreed to continue talks next month in Doha.
Dr Al Qahtani called on all regional and international parties to unify and coordinate peace efforts and avoid distracting efforts, stressing the importance of supporting the efforts of Qatar and its strategic allies to achieve peace and stability in Afghanistan.
اختتمت اليوم المحادثات التي استضافتها دولة قطر على مدى ستة ايام، بين سعادة السيد زلماي خليل زاد المبعوث الأمريكي الخاص لأفغانستان، وأعضاء المكتب السياسي لحركة “طالبان” في الدوحة، حيث ناقش الجانبان عملية المصالحة الوطنية وتحقيق السلام في أفغانستان.
وقال سعادة الدكتور مطلق بن ماجد القحطاني المبعوث الخاص لوزير الخارجية لمكافحة الإرهاب والوساطة في تسوية المنازعات، إن الجانبين تطرقا خلال المحادثات إلى عدد من المسائل الجوهرية، في اجواء إيجابية عكست جديتهما في تحقيق تقدم في مسار المصالحة وتحقيق السلام في افغانستان
وأوضح سعادته في تصريح لوكالة الانباء القطرية “قنا”، أنه تم خلال المباحثات مناقشة الإطار الزمني للمفاوضات بالإضافة الى المسائل الأخرى المترتبة على الانسحاب وتحقيق المصالحة الوطنية بشكل مستدام، واتفق الجانبان على مواصلة المحادثات الشهر المقبل في الدوحة، لحين التوصل لاتفاق حول هذه المسائل الجوهرية.
ودعا سعادة الدكتور القحطاني ،كافة الأطراف الإقليمية والدولية إلى توحيد وتنسيق جهود السلام في أفغانستان وتجنب تشتيت الجهود..مؤكدا أهمية دعم الجهود التي تقوم بها دولة قطر وحلفاؤها الاستراتيجيون لتحقيق السلام والاستقرار في أفغانستان.
