Ashghal opens 8th underpass on Mesaimeer Interchange
أشغال تفتتح ثامن نفق على تقاطع مسيمير

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) opened a new 600m underpass on Mesaimeer Interchange to traffic towards Rawdat Al Khail Street and D-Ring Road from Doha Expressway today (May 17).
The new underpass is the eighth underpass to be opened, as part of a series of openings, among nine underpasses on Mesaimeer Interchange, bringing the completion percentage of the vital interchange to about 87%. The new underpass consists of one lane and can accommodate about 2000 vehicles per hour, coming from Doha Expressway, which undergoes great traffic throughout the day.
The new underpass provides free traffic flow in front of vehicles coming from Doha Expressway and 22 February Streettowards Rawdat Al Khail Street to serve residents of Nuaija, and those heading to E-Ring Road, Al Mansoura, Rawdat Al Khail and Doha Central. Accordingly, it will reduce traffic congestion on other surrounding roads and provide new alternatives.
Features of the Interchange
The new three-level interchange is the first of its kind in Qatar as it contains nine underpasses providing free flow traffic. The interchange also consists of two major bridges. One of them connects Rawdat Al Khail Street and Industrial area road in both directions, and the other one connecting E-Ring Road with the southern part of Doha Expressway in one direction, ensuring a smooth flow of traffic in all directions.
The 6.1 km long, interchange consists of three to four lanes in each direction to accommodate about 30,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. The new interchange, once completed in 2020 will significantly improve traffic flow, reducing travel time by more than 70% of travel time.
Hexagon Interchange
The Mesaimeer Interchange is the first of its kind in Qatar connecting six main roads, namely Mesaimeer Interchange, Doha Expressway, southern part of Doha Expressway, Sabah Al Ahmed Corridor, Industrial Area Road and Rawdat Al Khail Street. The interchange also provides a vital traffic link between the south, central and north of the country. It links traffic from the south through the southern part of Doha Expressway, main carriageway of Doha Expressway and Al Shamal Road.
It also connects traffic between Industrial area road and the heart of Doha through a connection to Rawdat Al Khail Street, which intersects with D-Ring and C-Ring Road, also between the busy areas of Nuaija, Al Thumama, Bu Hamour, Al Maamoura, Mesaimeer providing an easy access to Al Wakra, Al Wukair and the Industrial area.
It is located in a vital area that has many facilities including Al Thumama Stadium, one of the World Cup stadiums, where the interchange has three pedestrian bridges to ease people’s access to Al Thumama Stadium.
The interchange also serves many important educational, health and commercial facilities such as the Medical Commission, Meteorological Department, many schools, health centers and nearby shopping malls.
Integration with Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor
The Mesaimeer Interchange integrates with Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor linking Al-Watiyyat Interchange, which is a strategic link between the southern part of Doha Expressway and its main highway. This link provides a free flow traffic between the north and south of the country through Doha.
The project is one of the vital interchanges in the country, with two levels comprising three bridges and four underpasses for easy access of vehicles to nearby residential area of Al Thumama, Mesaimeer, Bu Hamour, Nuaija, Al Wakra and Al Wukair. The interchange provides a free flow traffic for commuters from these areas to Hamad International Airport, to southern areas, Doha and northern areas of the country.

افتتحت هيئة الأشغال العامة «أشغال» نفقا جديدا على تقاطع مسيمير بطول 600 متر أمام الحركة المرورية في اتجاه شارع روضة الخيل والطريق الدائري الرابع أمام القادمين من طريق الدوحة السريع بالتنسيق مع الإدارة العامة للمرور.
يعتبر النفق الجديد هو ثامن نفق يتم افتتاحه من بين الأنفاق التسعة التي يتألف منها تقاطع مسيمير وذلك ضمن سلسلة افتتاحات، لتصل نسبة إنجاز التقاطع الحيوي إلى نحو 87%.
ويتألف النفق الجديد من مسار واحد ويستوعب نحو 2000 مركبة في الساعة قادمة من طريق الدوحة السريع والذي يشهد حركة مرورية كبيرة طوال اليوم.
وأكد المهندس حسن الغانم أن النفق الجديد يوفر تدفقاً مرورياً حرا أمام القادمين من شارع 22 فبراير وطريق الدوحة السريع في اتجاه شارع روضة الخيل ليخدم القاطنين في منطقة نعيجة والمتجهين إلى الطريق الدائري الرابع والمنصورة وروضة الخيل ووسط الدوحة، كما سيخفف من الضغط المروري على الطرق المحيطة الأخرى ويوفر بدائل جديدة.
ويعتبر التقاطع الجديد، الذي يتألف من ثلاثة مستويات، هو الأول من نوعه في قطر نظراً لاحتوائه على تسعة أنفاق توفر تدفقاً مرورياً حراً، كما يحتوي التقاطع على جسرين رئيسيين آخرين يصلان بين شارع روضة الخيل وطريق المنطقة الصناعية في كلا الاتجاهين والطريق الدائري الخامس بالجزء الجنوبي من طريق الدوحة السريع في اتجاه واحد، وهو ما سيحقق انسيابية كبيرة في حركة المرور في كافة الجهات.
ويبلغ طول أعمال التقاطع 6.1 كيلومتر، حيث يتكون التقاطع ما بين ثلاثة إلى أربعة مسارات في كل اتجاه لتستوعب نحو 30000 مركبة في الساعة في الاتجاهين. وسيعمل التقاطع الجديد عند اكتماله في وقت لاحق من العام الجاري على تحسين الحركة المرورية بشكل كبير ليختصر زمن الرحلة بنحو أكثر من70% من زمن الرحلة.
تقاطع سداسي
يعتبر تقاطع مسيمير أول تقاطع في قطر يربط ستة طرق رئيسية وهي الطريق الدائري الخامس وطريق الدوحة السريع والجزء الجنوبي من طريق الدوحة السريع ومحور صباح الأحمد وطريق المنطقة الصناعية وشارع روضة الخيل. كما يزيد من أهمية التقاطع كونه حلقة الوصل بين جنوب البلاد ووسط الدوحة وشمالها، حيث يربط التقاطع الحركة المرورية القادمة من الجنوب عبر الجزء الجنوبي من طريق الدوحة السريع وصولا إلى طريق الدوحة السريع وطريق الشمال.
