HMC opens first blood plasma donation unit to treat coronavirus patients

Dr. Mona Al-Muslimani, Medical Director of the Infectious Diseases Center at Hamad Medical Corporation, announced the opening of the plasma donation unit for recovered people from the new Coronavirus “Covid-19”, for people with severe cases of the Virus to strengthen their immune system and thereby alleviate the severity of symptoms, since the U.S. Drug and Food Authority authorized people with coronavirus 19 especially critical cases, pointing out that the blood plasma donation unit has received the first donor, plasma is part of the blood parts in which the antibodies are formed, and antibodies form in the person usually after a certain disease, these bodies give immunity to the person infected with the novel “Covid-19”
Dr. Muslimani stressed that the medical staff recommend the use of blood plasma for people infected with “Covid-19”, especially for critical and severe cases, because there are still few clinical studies on the success of blood plasma in the treatment of new corona 19, and studies in SARS and Ebola cases have shown very good results in the recovery of infected cases.
In an interview with al-Rayyan TV program “Alsabah Rabah”, Dr. Al-Muslimani called on people who have been infected with “Covid-19” and recovered from the virus to go to the plasma donation unit and donate to help in the treatment of severe cases of infection.
Dr. Abdullatif Al-Khal, Chairman of the National Strategic Committee for The Response to Coronavirus at the Ministry of Public Health, head of the infectious diseases department at Hamad Medical Corporation, announced the other day, the start of the collection of blood plasma from donors who had recovered from the new Coronavirus (COVED-19), from those have been infected for 4-6 weeks, and recovered from at least two prior weeks, to treat patients with severe cases of the new Coronavirus “Covid-19”, in addition to the treatment protocol used by The Hamad Medical Corporation for Patients with the virus.
Dr. Al-Khal explained that “the blood plasma is antibodies produced by the recovered person from the new coronavirus (Coved-19),” and is injected into the infected from severe cases, pointing out that so far there are no studies that have proved the success of this hypothesis, but there are some limited trials and practical clinical experiences, there were also small bulletins recently published on 10 patients in China with the new Coronavirus (COVED-19), showed that when these people were injected with blood plasma from people who recovered and their respiratory systems got better, They started showing symptoms of improvement from the infection after three days, but were not compared to another group that was not injected with the same serum, so the results become scientifically clear.”
Dr. Al-Khal stressed in statements that blood plasma or antibodies from people who have recovered have proven successful in a limited form previously on Sars virus patients, and H1N1 swine flu, have proved to be effective in a limited way, but there are many studies being conducted in many countries to ascertain the effectiveness of the treatment, so Hamad Medical Corporation decided to use blood plasma to treat people infected with coronavirus from severe cases, blood plasma will be collected from donors and will be injected in infected people.
Dr. Al-Khal commented on the latest updates concerning the spread of the virus globally, Dr. Al-Khal explained that “the virus is spreading globally, some countries are heavily affected, such as the United States of America, Italy and Spain, and there are many studies being conducted on 3 types of treatment and prevention, led by drugs used in Qatar and in the world, there are no studies showing the results of their use, compared to after their use, but clinical trials confirm their effectiveness, but we are waiting for the results until this moment, there are drugs but they are not available and are still undergoing tests in several countries, The other part is Vaccine, more than 40 vaccinations worldwide.”

أعلنت الدكتورة منى المسلماني المدير الطبي لمركز الأمراض الانتقالية بمؤسسة حمد الطبية، افتتاح وحدة التبرع بالبلازما من الأشخاص المتعافين من كورونا المستجد19 “كوفيد-19″، للأشخاص المصابين بالفيروس من ذوي الإصابات الشديدة لتقوية جهازهم المناعي وبالتالي تخفيف حدة الأعراض، حيث أجازت هيئة الدواء والغذاء الأمريكية للمصابين بفيروس كورونا 19 خاصة من الحالات الحرجة، لافتة إلى أنَّ وحدة التبرع ببلازما الدم قد استقبلت أول متبرع، فالبلازما جزء من أجزاء الدم الذي تتكون فيه وتتمركز فيه الأجسام المضادة، والاجسام المضادة تتكون في الشخص عادة بعد إصابته بمرض معين، فهذه الأجسام تعطي مناعة للشخص المصاب بكورونا المستجد19 “كوفيد-19”.
وأكدت الدكتورة المسلماني أنَّ الطاقم الطبي ينصح باستخدام بلازما الدم للأشخاص المصابين بفيروس كورونا 19، خاصة للحالات الحرجة والشديدة، لأنه لا تزال الدراسات الإكلينيكية قليلة على مدى نجاح بلازما الدم في علاج كورونا المستجد 19، وكانت الدراسات في حالات السارس والإيبولا وأظهرت نتائج جيدة جدا في شفاء الحالات المصابة.
ودعت الدكتورة المسلماني في حديث لبرنامج “الصباح رباح” على قناة الريان الأشخاص الذين أصيبوا بكوفيد-19 وتعافوا من الفيروس، بالتوجه إلى وحدة التبرع بالبلازما، والتبرع للمساهمة في شفاء الحالات الشديدة من الإصابة.
وكان الدكتور عبد اللطيف الخال رئيس اللجنة الوطنية الاستراتيجية للتصدي لفيروس كورونا بوزارة الصحة العامة رئيس قسم الأمراض المعدية بمؤسسة حمد الطبية اعلن أمس الأول، شروع مؤسسة حمد الطبية بجمع بلازما الدم من المتبرعين من المتعافين من فيروس كورونا المستجد 19 “كوفيد-19″، من الذين مرَّ على اصابتهم من 4ــ6 أسابيع، وأسبوعين على الشفاء، لعلاج مرضى الحالات الشديدة بفيروس كورونا المستجد 19، إلى جانب البروتوكول العلاجي المتبع في مؤسسة حمد الطبية لمرضى الفيروس.
وأوضح الدكتور الخال قائلا “إنَّ بلازما الدم عبارة عن أجسام مضادة يفرزها المتعافي من فيروس كورونا المستجد “كوفيد-19″، ويتم حقنها في المصابين من الحالات الشديدة، لافتا إلى أنه حتى الآن لا توجد دراسات أثبتت نجاح هذه الفرضية، ولكن هناك بعض التجارب المحدودة والخبرات الإكلينيكية العملية، كما أن هناك نشرات صغيرة تم نشرها مؤخرا على عشرة مرضى في الصين مصابين بفيروس كورونا المستجد 19 “كوفيد-19″، تبين أن عندما تمَّ حقن هؤلاء المصابين ببلازما الدم لأشخاص تعافوا وتحسن جهازهم التنفسي، بدأت تظهر عليهم أعراض التحسن من الإصابة بعد ثلاثة أيام، لكن لم تتم مقارنتهم بمجموعة أخرى لم يحقنوا بنفس المصل، لتتضح النتائج بصورة علمية”.
وأكد الدكتور الخال في تصريحات أن بلازما الدم أو الأجسام المضادة من أشخاص قد تعافوا قد اثبتت نجاحها في شكل محدود بالسابق على مرضى فيروس سارس، وانفلونزا الخنازير H1N1، فأثبتت فاعليتها بصورة محدودة، ولكن هناك العديد من الدراسات التي تجرى في العديد من الدول للتأكد من فاعلية العلاج، لذا قررت مؤسسة حمد الطبية استخدام بلازما الدم لعلاج المصابين بفيروس كورونا من الحالات الشديدة، فسيتم جمع البلازما من المتبرعين وحقن بها الأشخاص المصابين.
وعلق الدكتور الخال حول مستجدات انتشار الفيروس عالميا، أوضح الدكتور الخال قائلا “إن الفيروس عالميا آخذ بالانتشار، بعض الدول متأثرة بصورة كبيرة كالولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وايطاليا وإسبانيا، وهناك العديد من الدراسات يتم إجراؤها على 3 أنواع من العلاج والوقاية، يتصدرها الأدوية المستخدمة في قطر وفي العالم، لا توجد دراسات تظهر نتائج استخدامها، مقارنة بعد استخدامها، ولكن التجارب السريرية تؤكد فاعليتها ولكن للآن ننتظر النتائج، هناك أدوية موجودة ولكن غير متوفرة بل لا تزال تخضع للتجارب فتجرى التجارب في عدة دول، الشق الآخر التطعيمات هناك أثر من 40 تطعيما على مستوى العالم”.
