Washington questions Coronavirus numbers in China

The United States has questioned China’s “credibility” on the number of infections it has recorded following the re-emergence of the new Coronavirus in Beijing, while Chief U.S. Epidemiologist Anthony Fauchi said there was no need for more large-scale quarantine procedures, and it was announced that the first experimental results of a vaccine developed by a German company for Corona treatment would emerge within two months. China’s Ministry of Health announced that 32 new cases of infection were reported Friday, in addition to 183 people last week, while stressing that the epidemic is “under control.” “I’d like to believe that their numbers are closer to reality than we’ve seen in Wuhan and other parts of China,” said David Stillwell, assistant secretary of state for East Asia.
“When it comes to data, credibility is important, and when we lose credibility, it becomes difficult to recover it,” Stilwell said, adding that “the only way to restore” China’s credibility is by “accepting the deployment of impartial observers to help understand exactly what happened” at the beginning of the epidemic. He confirmed that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo clearly expressed this demand for “transparency” during his meeting with senior Chinese official Yang Jiechi on Wednesday in Hawaii. Washington accuses Chinese authorities of lying about its official toll of some 83,000 Coronavirus infections, including more than 4,600 deaths since the epidemic appeared in Wuhan in late 2019.
China, on the other hand, has confirmed that the resurgence of Covid-19 infection, particularly in Beijing, is now “under control” as further measures to isolate Beijing from the rest of the country have come into effect, as a new outbreak has hit the capital’s largest agricultural market. All inter-provincial bus lines linking the capital to the rest of the country have been suspended. Hundreds of flights from Beijing International Airports have also been cancelled, with unnecessary travel bans. It has also become necessary to prove that the results of recent DNA tests are negative in order to leave the capital. The study was suspended throughout the city earlier, and each district was ordered to implement “closed management” systems that oversee and control population movements.

شككت الولايات المتحدة في “مصداقية” الأرقام التي قدمتها الصين والمتعلقة بعدد الإصابات لديها إثر ظهور فيروس كورونا المستجد مجددا في العاصمة بكين، وفي حين قال كبير خبراء الأوبئة الأميركي أنتوني فاوتشي إنه لا ضرورة لمزيد من إجراءات الحجر الواسعة النطاق، أٌعلن أن النتائج التجريبية الأولى للقاح تطوره شركة ألمانية لعلاج كورونا ستظهر خلال شهرين.وقد أعلنت وزارة الصحة الصينية أنه تم تسجيل 32 إصابة جديدة بالفيروس امس الجمعة إضافة إلى 183 شخصا الأسبوع الماضي، مشددة في الوقت نفسه على أن الوباء “تحت السيطرة”. وهو ما علق عليه ديفيد ستيلويل مساعد وزير الخارجية الأميركي لشرق آسيا بالقول “أود أن أصدّق أن أرقامهم أقرب إلى الواقع مما رأيناه في ووهان وأجزاء أخرى من الصين”.
وأضاف ستيلويل “عندما يتعلّق الأمر بالبيانات، فإن المصداقية مهمة، وعندما نفقد المصداقية يصبح من الصعب استعادتها” معتبرا أن “الطريقة الوحيدة لاستعادة” مصداقية الصين من خلال “القبول بنشر مراقبين محايدين يساعدون على فهم ما حدث بالضبط” في بداية الوباء.وأكد أن وزير الخارجية مايك بومبيو أعرب بوضوح عن مطلب “الشفافية” هذا خلال لقائه المسؤول الصيني الرفيع يانغ جيشي الأربعاء في هاواي.وتتهم واشنطن السلطات الصينية بالكذب في ما يتعلّق بحصيلتها الرسميّة التي تشير إلى تسجيل نحو 83 ألف إصابة بالفيروس بينها أكثر من 4 آلاف و600 وفاة منذ ظهور الوباء في مدينة ووهان أواخر عام 2019.
في المقابل، أكدت الصين أن تجدد انتشار عدوى كوفيد-19، خاصة في بكين، صار “تحت السيطرة” في الوقت الذي دخلت فيه مزيد من إجراءات عزل بكين عن باقي البلاد حيز التنفيذ، حيث ضرب تفش جديد أكبر سوق زراعية بالعاصمة. وتم تعليق عمل جميع خطوط الحافلات بين المقاطعات والتي تربط العاصمة بباقي البلاد. كما تم إلغاء المئات من الرحلات الجوية من مطارات بكين الدولية، مع حظر السفر غير الضروري. كما أصبح من المطلوب إثبات سلبية نتائج الفحوصات الأخيرة المتعلقة بالحمض النووي من أجل مغادرة العاصمة.كما تم تعليق الدراسة في جميع أنحاء المدينة في وقت سابق، ووجهت أوامر لكل حي بتنفيذ أنظمة “إدارة مغلقة” تشرف على تحركات السكان وتسيطر عليها.
