QSCCB Marks International White Cane Day

Doha: Qatar Social & Cultural Center for Blind (QSCCB) celebrated the International White Cane Day by organizing an awareness-raising meeting about its importance for the blind and the methods of the blind movement.
The meeting, which was organized via the Zoom program, discussed the role of modern technology in helping the visually impaired in this field, in addition to reviewing some personal experiences in this area.
A song produced by the Center for Music Affairs was presented during the meeting to celebrate this occasion with the cooperation of the two sides.
Chairman of QSCCB Faisal Al Kooheji said that the center seeks, through its celebration of the International White Cane Day, which falls on Oct. 15 each year, to affirm the right of the blind to move outside their home by using this cane, and to inform the visually impaired about its importance to achieving independence and self-reliance, indicating that the center used to celebrate annually on this occasion by organizing a march in public places to introduce society to the blind and how to use the cane.
He added that the center launched an awareness campaign introducing the white cane on its social media platforms, which will last for a week, through which it seeks to introduce the white cane and encourage using it.

الدوجة: احتفل مركز قطر الاجتماعي والثقافي للمكفوفين، باليوم العالمي للعصا البيضاء بتنظيم لقاء توعوي حول التوعية بأهميتها للكفيف وأساليب حركة المكفوفين.
وناقش اللقاء، الذي نظم عبر برنامج زووم على الانترنت، عدا عن أهمية العصا البيضاء للكفيف وأساليب التنقل بها، دور التقنية الحديثة في مساعدة ذوي الإعاقة البصرية في هذا المجال، بالإضافة إلى استعراض بعض التجارب الشخصية في هذا المجال.
كما تم خلاله تقديم مقطوعة غنائية من إنتاج مركز شؤون الموسيقى، أعدت احتفاء بهذه المناسبة وبالتعاون بين الجانبين.
وقال السيد فيصل الكوهجي رئيس مجلس إدارة مركز قطر الاجتماعي والثقافي للمكفوفين، إن المركز يسعى من خلال احتفاله باليوم العالمي للعصا البيضاء الذي يوافق منتصف شهر أكتوبر من كل عام، التأكيد على حق الكفيف في الحركة خارج نطاق منزله باستخدام هذه العصا، وتعريف ذوي الإعاقة البصرية بأهمية استخدامها لما تحققه من استقلاليه واعتماد على النفس، مشيرا إلى أن المركز اعتاد الاحتفال سنويا بهذه المناسبة من خلال تنظيم مسيرة في الأماكن العامة لتعريف المجتمع بالكفيف وكيفية استخدامه للعصا.
وأضاف أن المركز أطلق حملة توعوية تعريفية بالعصا البيضاء عبر منصاته على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، تستمر لمدة أسبوع يسعى من خلالها للتعريف بالعصا البيضاء وتشجيع منتسبيه على استخدامها.
