Sheikha Moza attends Education City Golf Club opening

صاحبة السمو تشهد حفل افتتاح نادي المدينة التعليمية للجولف

 

H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation (QF), graced the official opening of the Education City Golf Club, a world-class sporting and community venue.

The official opening of the facility marked golf stars from around the world play their opening rounds in the latest edition of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters 2020.

H H Sheikha Moza was joined by H E Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Vice-Chairperson and CEO of  QF, H E Salah bin Ghanim Al Ali, Minister of Culture and Sports and other dignitaries who toured the Education City Golf Club and witnessed the professionals and beginners play golf.

The Education City Golf Club is designed as a venue for top-class competitions and aims to encourage people of all ages in Qatar to learn and enjoy the game of golf.

“Through the opportunities it offers and its ethos as a venue, the Education City Golf Club reflects Qatar Foundation’s commitment to promoting healthy, active lifestyles and the importance of wellbeing, and emphasises the fact that sport is for all,” said Machaille Hassan Al Naimi, President of Community Development, Qatar Foundation.

 “We look forward to welcoming people from across Qatar and beyond to experience the Education City Golf Club, which adds to the array of publicly-available, community-focused facilities at Qatar Foundation while also supporting Qatar’s national tourism goals and enhancing the nation’s global profile as a sporting destination,” she added.

Hassan Al Naimi, President of Qatar Golf Association; Joseph Abraham, Group CEO of Commercial Bank of Qatar; Omar Hussain Alfardan, Managing Director, Commercial Bank of Qatar; Keith Pelley, CEO of the PGA European Tour  and leading professional golfer Catriona Matthew were also present during the opening ceremony of the Education City Golf Club.

Commercial Bank Qatar Masters  has moved from its previous home at Doha Golf Club for the first time in its 23-year history.

“We have been committed to supporting this tournament for over 17 years, and we are very glad today to host the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at the Education City Golf Club, as it helps the sport becomes more a part of the community and offers a new destination for all age groups and all community members, as well as international players,” said Alfardan.  

The Education City Golf Club is an inclusive facility on many levels, especially the academic level, as it offers many opportunities for those aspiring to practice golf, whether they are beginners, advanced, or professional players.

Comprising 18-hole, nine-hole, and six-hole courses, the Education City Golf Club also houses a state-of-the-art learning and practice facility within its Centre of Excellence, which combines modern technology with expert training opportunities.

Anthony Caira, Head PGA Professional and Head of the Centre of Excellence at the Education City Golf Club, said: “This is a very special place for golf which has the latest technology and provides every possible facility for someone to develop and improve as a golfer. We also have highly qualified instructors.  We are like a university for golf within the Education City.”

The Education City Golf Club’s nine-hole course is floodlit, enabling people to enjoy a round of night-time golf, with the club also providing a range of fitness classes and offering golf lessons for individuals, groups, and children.

“This is a fantastic place with some of the best practice facilities in the world. It opens the way for beginners, children, students and professionals to enjoy the game of golf and feel the benefits it brings in terms of physical fitness, mental stimulation and social interaction,” Martin Steel, PGA Professional at the Education City Golf Club, said.

Another important feature of the Education City Golf Club is the women-only tuition area which seeks to supposrt the growth of women’s golf in Qatar.

شهدت صاحبة السمو الشيخة موزا بنت ناصر، رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، اليوم حفل الافتتاح الرسمي لنادي المدينة التعليمية للجولف، والذي يتزامن مع استضافة النادي لبطولة البنك التجاري قطر ماسترز 2020.

كما حضرت الحفل سعادة الشيخة هند بنت حمد آل ثاني، نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة مؤسسة قطر والرئيس التنفيذي للمؤسسة، بالإضافة إلى أبرز نجوم لعبة الجولف من شتى أنحاء العالم المشاركين في الجولات الافتتاحية لبطولة البنك التجاري قطر ماسترز 2020، والتي انتقلت من موقعها السابق في نادي الدوحة للجولف للمرة الأولى في تاريخها منذ انطلاقها قبل 23 عاما.

وقامت صاحبة السمو بجولة في النادي حيث زارت مرافقه المتنوعة.

ويهدف النادي إلى تعزيز رياضة الجولف في قطر وحث جميع أفراد المجتمع من كافة الفئات العمرية على زيارته والاستمتاع بممارسة رياضة الجولف، فضلا عن كونه موقعا لاستضافة المنافسات الكبرى.
