المتحدة للتنمية: ملعب للجولف من 9 حفر على مستوى عالمي في جزيرة جيوان سيكون جاهزًا بحلول عام 2023
A state-of-the-art 9-hole golf course, being developed in the upcoming Gewan Island, is expected to be completed by 2023. The world-class facility is now being primed to be another popular sports destination in Qatar. The membership-based golf course will also welcome all visitors and members, a top official from United Development Company (UDC) has said.
UDC is the master developer of The Pearl-Qatar and Gewan Island. The company has launched in 2019 the construction works for its new master development, the Gewan Island, which features various residential, retail, and entertainment facilities.
Talking to The Peninsula on the sidelines of UDC’s National Sport Day activities at The Pearl-Qatar yesterday, UDC President, CEO and Executive Board Member Ibrahim Jassim Al Othman, said the golf course, in addition to other sporting destinations at The Pearl-Qatar, is part of UDC’s programme to encourage its residents to live a healthy and active lifestyle.
“It will be a state-of-the-art 9-hole golf course, which will be located at the Gewan Island which is currently under development. Also, we just inaugurated three weeks ago two state-of-the-art parks (at The Pearl-Qatar) which are equipped with various amenities for the children and families to enjoy.
They can spend their time there, whether they want to do sports activities or simply have fun. We also have the tennis courts as well as the football fields available for all residents of The Pearl-Qatar,” he added.
As part of its National Sport Day activities, UDC organised a variety of sports, entertaining, and challenging activities which were attended by the Minister of Administrative Development, Labour & Social Affairs H E Yousuf Mohamed Al Othman Fakhroo, General Retirement & Social Insurance Authority President and UDC Chairman Turki bin Mohammed Al Khater, and Qatar Cool CEO Yasser Al Jaidah.
The activities included football, basketball, table tennis, volleyball, walkathon, obstacle games, wall climbing, foosball tables, and other recreational games and activities, which were simultaneously held in Costa Malaz and Porto Arabia districts for employees, residents, and visitors of all ages.
In a statement, Minister Fakhroo said: “Every year on the second Tuesday of February, our beloved country Qatar is transformed into a vast arena to engage in sporting activities in an atmosphere full of energy and vigor. The government’s interest in sports, spearheaded by H H the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has become clear to the entire world as sights are set on Qatar on this day every year, where sports become the drive to an active and healthy society. It is therefore necessary for all of us, individuals and organisations, to mark this annual occasion by spreading the culture of sports further in our society, by making it a way of life for citizens and residents of the State of Qatar.”
During the event, Al Khater urged the participants to embrace sports as a lifestyle, noting that it will help protect them against chronic diseases and their dangerous complications.
He added: “National Sports Day promotes a culture of ‘a healthy mind in a healthy body’ among community members. Thus, I invite all participants to engage in sporting activities as a daily routine rather than an annual occasion, in order to build a vibrant society and a new generation capable of continuing the journey of development and modernisation witnessed by the State of Qatar at all levels, in line with the state’s development policies and National Vision 2030”.
Al Othman added: “National Sports Day translates the nation’s belief in the importance of sports, by focusing on promoting an active and healthy lifestyle. These values further fulfill the objectives set by the Qatar National Vision 2030’s human development pillar. UDC continues to promote sports through its events, with the aim of cementing the country’s position as a regional sporting hub. The large turnout further translates participants’ belief in the values that the National Sports Day aims to improve human wellbeing.
Highlighting the contribution of sports to public health, Al Othman also called on employees to continue exercising, which will boost their energy and increase their productivity.
Every year, UDC regularly hosts public sports-related events across The Pearl-Qatar to encourage residents and visitors to partake in sports activities. The Pearl-Qatar remains an ideal location to lead a healthy lifestyle with plenty of green spaces, public parks, sea-facing facades, and various amenities and gym facilities that support a broad range of indoor and outdoor recreational activities across the island.
