Public buses and Doha Metro feeder buses will gradually shift to electric: Minister

Doha: The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) announced that it is currently in the final stages of developing the strategy and legislation relating to Electric Bus Project Qatar, which comes as part of MOTC strategy to provide an integrated, world-class, multimodal transportation system that offers safe, reliable and eco-friendly services in line with the pillars of the Qatar National Vision 2030 for social, economic and environmental development.
Minister of Transport and Communications H E Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti said: “Developing such strategy and legislation comes as an integral component of the plans of our wise leadership with regards to enacting the regulatory laws and policies that ensure the success and sustainability of the projects,” emphasizing that these steps will boost Qatars ranking as a pioneer in the field of mass transit with clean energy and as the first country in the world to have an integrated electric bus system, in addition to boosting the potential legacy value for the bus system of the World Cup Championship 2022 to create a positive legacy in a way that clearly demonstrates Qatar’s commitment to clean energy solutions for transportation in the world and supporting the determination to host an exceptional, eco-friendly, carbon-neutral championship.
The Minister said that public buses, government school buses and Doha Metro feeder buses will gradually shift to electric buses, thus achieving the percentage that is required to reduce harmful carbon emissions from buses by the year 2030, in addition to cementing the concerted efforts that aim to protect environmental sustainability.
Under the strategy, such a shift will support building an infrastructure for an integrated electric public transit system in the country. Several permanent depots, distributed in a well-considered geographical order, will be established in various areas across the country. They will include facilities for parking and charge and maintenance equipment, in addition to administration buildings and staff and drivers accommodation, which will be completed during 2021.
The strategy targets a shift in 25% of public transit fleet of buses to electric buses by 2022 and the use of electric buses in main services during the FIFA World Cup Championship 2022 to make it the first championship to use electric mass transit buses.
The Electric Bus Project backs the Qatar’s agenda for a green future and contributes to striking an economic-environmental balance in a way that ensures transportation sectors infrastructure projects sustainability, supporting economic growth and making the most out of the natural resources by increasing the revenues of oil and gas sectors and developing the means of transportation though deploying clean and alternative energy in accordance with latest universal eco-friendly systems to reduce carbon emissions and, therefore, create a clean, healthy and safe environment for generations to come.

أعلنت وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات أنها في المراحل الأخيرة من وضع الاستراتيجية والتشريعات الخاصة بمشروع الحافلات الكهربائية في دولة قطر، والذي يأتي ضمن استراتيجيتها الرامية إلى توفير نظام نقل متكامل متعدد الوسائط على مستوى عالمي يقدم خدمات آمنة وموثوق بها وصديقة للبيئة، بما يتماشى مع تحقيق ركائز رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030 المتمثلة في التنمية الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والبيئية.
وأفادت الوزارة بأن مشروع الحافلات الكهربائية يهدف إلى دعم مسيرة الدولة في خطواتها نحو مستقبل أخضر، وتحقيق التوازن الاقتصادي والبيئي لضمان استدامة مشاريع البنية التحتية لقطاع المواصلات، فضلا عن دعم النمو الاقتصادي وتحقيق الفائدة القصوى للموارد الطبيعية من خلال زيادة العوائد الخارجية لقطاعي النفط والغاز، وتطوير وسائل النقل عبر توظيف الطاقة البديلة والنظيفة وفق أحدث الأنظمة العالمية الصديقة للبيئة للحد من الانبعاثات الكربونية الضارة مما يوفر بيئة نظيفة وصحية وآمنة للأجيال القادمة.
وفي هذا الاطار، قال سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، إن “وضع مثل هذه الاستراتيجية والتشريعات، يأتي كجزء مكمل لخطط الحكومة الرشيدة، فيما يتعلق بسن القوانين والسياسات المنظمة التي تضمن نجاح المشاريع واستدامتها”، مؤكدا أن هذه الخطوات ستعزز من موقع دولة قطر كرائدة في مجال النقل الجماعي للطاقة النظيفة، وكأول دولة في العالم لديها نظام حافلات كهربائية متكامل، بالإضافة إلى تعزيز القيمة الإرثية الكامنة لنظام حافلات بطولة كأس العالم 2022 لتحقيق إرث إيجابي، بما يبين بوضوح التزام قطر بحلول الطاقة النظيفة للنقل في العالم، ودعم توجه استضافة بطولة كأس عالم استثنائية صديقة للبيئة و”محايدة للكربون”.
وأوضح سعادته أنه سيتم التحول التدريجي لخدمات الحافلات العامة والحافلات المدرسية الحكومية والحافلات المغذية لمترو الدوحة إلى الحافلات الكهربائية، بما يحقق النسبة المطلوبة لخفض معدل الانبعاثات الكربونية الضارة التي تسببها الحافلات بحلول عام 2030، بالإضافة إلى تحقيق تضافر كافة الجهود المبذولة لصون الاستدامة البيئية.
ووفقا للاستراتيجية، سيدعم هذا التحول بناء بنية تحتية خاصة بنظام النقل العام الكهربائي المتكامل في الدولة، حيث سيتم إنشاء عدد من المستودعات الدائمة في مناطق متعددة من الدولة وموزعة بترتيب جغرافي مدروس، تحتوي على مرافق خاصة بالمواقف ومعدات الشحن والصيانة، بالإضافة إلى المباني الإدارية والسكن الخاص بالموظفين والسائقين، والتي سيتم الانتهاء من إنشائها خلال العام 2021.
كما تستهدف الاستراتيجية التحول لنسبة 25% من اسطول حافلات النقل العام الى حافلات كهربائية بحلول 2022 واستخدام الحافلات الكهربائية في الخدمات الرئيسية خلال بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2022 لتكون أول بطولة تستخدم حافلات نقل جماعي كهربائية.
