Qatari official appointed Special Adviser to UN Secretary-General

Doha: HE Secretary-General of the UN Antonio Guterres appointed HE Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Muraikhi, as Special Adviser to him.
The main responsibilities of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the UN are to give, on request, advise to the Secretary-General for dialogue and relations with regional organizations and member states, and to call for cooperation with the UN between partners, especially South-South global cooperation and the private sector, as well as facilitating high-level meetings for the Secretary-General and other senior UN leaders, said the Office of the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the UN in Doha in a statement on Monday.
Also, the Adviser undertakes work on special projects mandated by the Secretary-General, providing advice in cooperation and partnerships areas as well as geopolitical dynamics, methods and mechanisms for correcting misconceptions about the UN system and its work, as well as undertaking other related activities.
HE Dr Al Muraikhi held the position of Humanitarian Envoy for the UN between December 2016 and December 2019.
HE Dr Al Muraikhi has a proven experience record in the diplomatic and humanitarian fields, as he held many positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other institutions within the country, before moving to work with the UN.
عيّن سعادة السيد أنطونيو غوتيريش الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، سعادة الدكتور أحمد بن محمد المريخي مستشاراً خاصاً له.
وذكر مكتب المستشار الخاص للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة بالدوحة في بيان له اليوم، أن المسؤوليات الرئيسية للمستشار الخاص للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، تتمثل في تقديم المشورة للأمين العام حسب الطلب بشأن الحوار والعلاقات مع المنظمات الإقليمية والدول الأعضاء، والدعوة إلى التعاون مع الأمم المتحدة بين الشركاء وخاصة تعاون جنوب-جنوب العالمي والقطاع الخاص، بجانب تيسير عقد اجتماعات رفيعة المستوى للأمين العام وغيره من كبار قادة الأمم المتحدة.
كما يتولى المستشار العمل في المشاريع الخاصة التي يكلفه بها الأمين العام، وتقديم المشورة في المجالات المتعلقة بالتعاون والشراكات وكذلك الديناميات الجيوسياسية، وطرق وآليات تصحيح المفاهيم الخاطئة عن منظومة الأمم المتحدة وعملها، فضلاً عن الاضطلاع بالأنشطة الأخرى ذات الصلة.
وكان سعادة الدكتور أحمد المريخي قد شغل منصب المبعوث الإنساني الخاص للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة في الفترة من ديسمبر 2016 إلى ديسمبر 2019.
ويمتلك سعادة الدكتور المريخي سجلاً حافلاً من الخبرة في المجالين الدبلوماسي والإنساني، حيث تقلد العديد من المناصب في وزارة الخارجية وفي مؤسسات أخرى داخل الدولة، قبل أن ينتقل للعمل في منظمة الأمم المتحدة.
