Winter vegetable markets to open on Thursday

The Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), Yousuf Khalid Al Khulaifi, has said that with the participation of 125 local farms, the winter vegetable markets will open on Thursday (November 14) for the season 2019-20.
The winter vegetable markets, located in Al Sheehaniya, Al Mazrouha, Al Wakrah, Al Khor-Al Zakhira and Al Shamal offer farm fresh local agricultural products directly to customers without middlemen at competitive prices.
“Over 31 percent of total local agricultural products were sold through the marketing platforms provided by the MME and winter vegetable markets shared 11 percent of the total sales,” Yousuf Khalid Al Khulaifi told The Peninsula on the sidelines of an event yesterday.
He said that the MME will support the markets to offer all agricultural products at competitive prices to attract the customers.
Local farms are ready to participate in the seasonal winter vegetable markets with its products in large quantity. The farmers said that with the support of the MME they increased their products significantly.
“We are working to produce non-basis agricultural products like quality vegetables including specific capsicum and bens as per the demand of the local market,” Ali Ahmad Saad Mansour Al Kaabi, owner of the Global Farm for Agricultural Supplies told The Peninsula.
Al Kaabi who is also a member of the Standing Committee for Farms Affairs, said that the MME provided many marketing platforms for the local product within the system of government support, pointing out to provide many inputs for the production of farmers.
“We received seeds, fertilizers, boxes and labels for marketing free of charge, and others forms of support,” said Al Kaabi.
He said that the State provided integrated support to farmers during this year in terms of marketing and production inputs, pointing out that the entry of the company ‘Mahaseel’ to the market is an important form of support in marketing.

افتتح الشيخ الدكتور فالح بن ناصر آل ثاني وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون الزراعة والثروة السمكية بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، صباح أمس الاثنين، مهرجان منتجات المزارع القطرية بمجمع اللولو في الغرافة، الذي تنظّمه الوزارة ممثلة بقطاع شؤون الزراعة والثروة السمكية بالتعاون مع إدارة «اللولو هايبر ماركت». ويهدف هذا المهرجان إلى دعم أصحاب المزارع الوطنية لطرح منتجاتهم في كبرى المجمعات التجارية بالدولة لتوسيع محطات بيع المنتجات المحلية.
وأكد الشيخ الدكتور فالح بن ناصر آل ثاني وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون الزراعة والثروة السمكية، أن المهرجان يأتي ضمن دعم المنتج المحلي وأصحاب المزارع المحلية لتسويق منتجاتهم في الأسواق المحلية.
وأضاف أنه انطلاقاً من حرص الوزارة على دعم المنتج المحلي، فقد أطلقت خلال الفترة الماضية برنامجين لدعم المنتجات المحلية، بهدف العمل على تنشيط السوق المحلي لمنافسة المنتجات الخارجية، حيث تم تدشين برنامجي «المنتج المميز» و«مزارع قطر» بالتعاون مع كبرى المجمعات التجارية؛ لتنويع محطات البيع وتسويق المنتجات أمام أصحاب المزارع المحلية.
وأشار إلى أن اليوم الأول من التدشين للبرامج السابقة انطلق بـ 7 مزارع فقط، ليصل خلال هذه الفترة عدد المزارع المشاركة إلى 120 مزرعة مقارنة بالبرامج السابقة.
وأشار إلى أن المنتجات المعروضة متميّزة ومتنوعة من لحوم ودواجن وخضراوات وفواكه وعسل وتمور وألبان ومشتقاتها وغيرها. مشيداً بالتميّز في التنوع الكبير بالمنتجات القطرية خلال الفترة الأخيرة. وأضاف أن الأسعار مناسبة للجمهور.
