Qatar’s biggest obstacle course race at Aspire Park today

Doha: The third edition of the annual Esrar Race, dubbed the largest obstacle course racing event ever in Qatar, will be held in Aspire Park today.

With nearly 900 registered participants, this year’s race will be the biggest installment of Esrar with a total of 12 prizes at stake. Esrar (which means ‘determination’ in Arabic) is an exciting fitness challenge testing endurance, strength, speed, and stamina.

Acclaimed TV personalities Mohammed Saadoun Al Kuwari and Ali Al Meslemani and Qatari boxer Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani are among the participants expected to take part in the competition.

The racing categories are Female Individual, Male Individual, Masters (45 years old and above), and Teams. The race, which spans 5K and includes 20 obstacles, will begin at 8am with the last heat starting at 10.30am.

A new feature at this year’s event is the Esrar Kids Race, open to children between five to12 years old. Esrar Kids Race is a mini obstacle course nearly 1km in length, with all finishers receiving medals.

“This year’s race will be bigger than any of our previous events. By creating more categories, we are aiming to appeal to everyone interested in partaking or watching fun sporting events. The kids’ race is also a great addition as it encourages families to do fun and active activities together,” said Khalid Al Kuwari, CEO of Diverse Sports, organisers of Esrar Race.

Diverse Sports is a Qatari company which seeks to deliver quality sporting events in Qatar that engage with Qatar’s community and beyond.

Drawing large numbers of international participants, the race is being done in partnership with the Qatar National Tourism Council. Esrar Race is an annual event that draws interest from racing and sports enthusiast from the region and across the globe.

Esrar Race 2019 is being held under the Patronage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, who seek to support local Qatari businesses that help to bring quality sporting events to the community.
