QAFCO celebrates its 50th anniversary

Doha, Qatar, November 12, 2019 – Qatar Fertiliser Company (QAFCO) celebrated its 50th anniversary since establishment and five decades of an international reputation as a premium manufacturer and supplier of high quality urea.
A special celebration was held at the Qatar National Convention Centre, under the patronage and in the attendance of His Excellency Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani, the Prime Minister of the State of Qatar. The event was also attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, and His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of the State for Energy Affairs, President & CEO of Qatar Petroleum, along with senior Qatari and Norwegian executives and officials.
Speaking at the event, His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, reviewed Qatar’s achievements over the past five decades in the energy sector in general and the petrochemical industry in particular. He said, “QAFCO was the first building block in Mesaieed Industrial City, and the first Qatari petrochemical manufacturer to export its products from Mesaieed port to the world, in addition to being the first company to train and develop Qatari human potential to work in and lead the petrochemical sector.”
H.E. Minister Al Kaabi added, “QAFCO is a cornerstone in Industries Qatar, the largest listed company on Qatar Stock Exchange, which has benefited the national economy. This was followed by the establishment “Muntajat”, an experienced Qatari market leader in the marketing of petrochemical products, which is exclusively responsible for the marketing of QAFCO’s products throughout the world.”
H.E. the Minister of State for Energy affairs pointed to the role of joint ventures in advancing the national economy and said, “Joint ventures are not only to provide investment opportunities, expertise and resources, but also to contribute significantly to growth and sustainability, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which was launched and guided by His Highness the Amir, with the aim of transforming aims at transforming Qatar into an advanced country by 2030, capable of sustaining its own development and providing for a high standard of living for all of its people for generations to come. Based on this, we are placing the highest priority on the development of Qatari nationals, the prudent management of our hydrocarbon resources, the well-planned and diversified investment, and on ensuring to carry out our projects out in accordance with the highest environmental standards”.
QAFCO is amongst the first petrochemical enterprises in Qatar established by the Government of Qatar, Norsk Hydro, The Power-Gas Corporation Ltd and Hambros Bank Ltd in 1969. Today the ownership is shared 75/25 between Qatar Petroleum and YARA International ASA. QAFCO’s annual production capacity is 5.6 million metric tonnes of urea and 3.8 million metric tonnes of ammonia which are marketed and sold exclusively by Muntajat. QAFCO worldwide is recognized as the largest single-site fertiliser plant and is about 14% of the world’s traded urea; it is the largest single site producer of urea in the world and represents a significant percentage of the world’s traded supply.
QAFCO also established Gulf Formaldehyde Company (2003) and Qatar Melamine Company (2006); further supporting the State of Qatar’s industrial diversification strategy.

الدوحة، قطر، في 12 نوفمبر 2019 – احتفلت شركة قطر للأسمدة الكيماوية (قافكو) بالذكرى الخمسين لتأسيسها، ومرور خمسة عقود من الريادة العالمية في تصنيع اليوريا عالية الجودة وتوريدها.
وقد أقيم بهذه المناسبة في مركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات حفل خاص تحت رعاية وبحضور معالي الشيخ عبدالله بن ناصر بن خليفة آل ثاني رئيس مجلس الوزراء في دولة قطر. وقد حضر الاحتفال صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير هاكون ولي عهد مملكة النرويج، وسعادة المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للبترول، بالإضافة إلى كبار التنفيذيين من مختلف قطاعات الصناعة في دولة قطر مع شركائهم في قطاعات الصناعة النرويجية.
سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للبترول، استعرض في كلمته خلال الحفل موجزا لإنجازات قطر في قطاع الطاقة بشكل عام وصناعة البتروكيماويات بشكل خاص عبر خمسة عقود مضت، قائلا: “لقد شكّلت قافكو اللَبنة الأولى في إنشاء مدينة مسيعيد الصناعية، وكانت أول صانع قطري للبتروكيماويات يُصدِّر منتجاته من موانئ مسيعيد إلى العالم، والشركة الأولى في تدريب وتطوير القدرات القطرية للعمل في قطاع البتروكيماويات ولقيادته.“
وأضاف سعادة الوزير الكعبي: “تعد شركة قطر للأسمدة الكيماوية حجر الأساس في تأسيس شركة صناعات قطر، أكبر شركة مدرجة في سوق الأوراق المالية القطرية، حيث عاد هذا الإدراج بالنفع العام على الاقتصاد الوطني. وقد تبع ذلك إنشاء شركة قطرية متمرسة ورائدة في تسويق المنتجات والبتروكيماوية، متمثلة في شركة “منتجات“، والمسؤولة حصرياً عن تسويق منتجات قافكو لكافة أنحاء العالم من خلال قدرات وخبرات تسويقية متميزة.“
وأشار سعادة وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة إلى الدور الذي تلعبه المشاريع المشتركة في تقدم الاقتصاد الوطني قائلا: “إن دور المشاريع المشتركة لا يقتصر على توفير الفرص الاستثمارية والخبرات والموارد فقط، بل يساهم بشكل كبير أيضاً في تحقيق النمو والاستدامة، تماشياً مع رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030 التي أطلقها ويرعاها سيدي حضرة صاحب السمو أمير البلاد المفدى، “حفظه الله“. تلك الرؤية التي تهدف إلى تحويل قطر بحلول عام 2030 إلى دولة متقدمة قادرة على تحقيق التنمية المستدامة، وعلى لعب دور إيجابي على المستوى العالمي وتأمين استمرار العيش الكريم لشعبها جيلاً بعد جيل. ومن هذا المنطلق، فإننا نضع في أعلى أولوياتنا تطوير وتنمية المواطن القطري والإدارة الرشيدة لمواردنا الهيدروكربونية والاستثمار المدروس والمتنوع، وضمان إنجاز مشاريعنا وفق أعلى المعايير البيئية إدراكاً منا لأهمية العامل البيئي للعالم أجمع.“
يذكر أن شركة قطر للأسمدة الكيماوية “قافكو“ تحتل الصدارة باعتبارها من أوائل المشروعات الصناعية البتروكيماوية في قطر والتي شارك في تأسيسها كل من دولة قطر، وشركة نورسك هيدرو النرويجية، وشركة باور غاز المحدودة، وبنك همبروز المحدود في عام 1969. واليوم تنقسم ملكية الأسهم بنسبة 75 % لقطر للبترول و25% لشركة يارا إنترناشونال النرويجية. وتصل السعة الإنتاجية السنوية لشركة “قافكو“ إلى 5.6 مليون طن متري من اليوريا و3.8 مليون طن متري من الأمونيا يتم تسويقها وبيعها حصريًا بواسطة شركة قطر لتسويق وتوزيع الكيماويات والبتروكيماويات “منتجات“. وتعد “قافكو“ أكبر منتج للأسمدة (من موقع واحد) في العالم؛ حيث تمثل نسبة 14 %من الإنتاج العالمي المتداول
وتجدر الإشارة إلى أن شركة “قافكو“ قد أسست أيضًا كل من شركة الخليج للفورمالدهايد (2003) وشركة قطر للميلامين (2006) بغية دعم الاستراتيجية الصناعية لدولة قطر الرامية لتحقيق التنوع الاقتصادي للبلاد.

أنشئت شركة قطر للأسمدة الكيماوية “قافكو“ في سنة 1969 كمشروع مشترك بين حكومة قطر ومجموعة من الشركاء الأجانب. وتمثل “قافكو“ أول مشروع ضخم تؤسسه قطر في قطاع البتروكيماويات بهدف تنويع الاقتصاد وتعظيم الاستفادة من المخزون الضخم للغاز الطبيعي في الدولة. وبعد نجاحها في تنفيذ عدد من المشروعات التوسعية على مدار العقود الثلاثة الماضية، أصبحت شركة “قافكو“ في مصاف كبرى الشركات المنتجة للأسمدة في العالم. وتصل حصة صناعات قطر في شركة “قافكو“ إلى 75% بينما تمتلك شركة يارا الدولية نسبة 25% من أسهم “قافكو“.
