Qatari photographer’s exhibition displays beauty of Yemen at Katara

Doha: Qatari photographer Modhi Hamad Al Hajri captures the beauty of Yemen in more than 100 photographs on display at “Yemen, A Captivating Love” exhibition which opened on Thursday at Katara Cultural Village.

Through the photos taken during her series of visits to Yemen, Al Hajri takes visitors on a journey to a country of great physical beauty and charm, from its verdant mountains to its ancient cities and villages with their traditional houses to the busy souqs and stunning mosques. She depicts Yemeni children with such dignity through the images which are contained in a new book with the same title as the exhibition which she also launched on Thursday.

“Once upon a time, I, out curiosity, held my modest camera and my love for discovery and embarked on a small journey that later expanded to become a series of trips. That door from which I entered Yemen remained open, constantly inviting me to explore new places and to return to the places that I have become familiar with so much that I can no longer be absent from Yemen for a long time,” said Al Hajri.

Speaking about her new book, she said it does not only focus on the images but also includes information and her own observations about Yemen – its ancient history, natural beauty and generous people, which are aspects that had attracted her to the country.

“We are very pleased with this beautiful exhibition which conveys to the visitors of Katara the authentic beauty of Yemeni civilization, culture and history. It also highlights the artist’s ingenuity in capturing meaningful angles through which she conveys to the viewer a message about Yemen as captured by her lens,” Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, General Manager of Katara, said at the opening of the exhibition which was attended by several Qatari officials, representatives of diplomatic missions, artists and art enthusiasts. He stressed the significance of this exhibition in presenting art as a bridge of communication between cultures and peoples in line with the efforts of Katara in organising various cultural activities and exhibitions.

An active member of many local and international art organisations, Al Hajri has already taken part in more than 76 local, regional and international exhibitions in countries such as France, Italy, Bangladesh, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, Georgia, Turkey, China and Lebanon. She is a recipient of several awards including the Golden Phoenix Backpacker Award 2014, Arab Women Award and Businesswomen’s Association Award in 2013, among others.

The exhibition is on view until October 29 at Katara Building 22.

افتتح سعادة الدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي المدير العام للمؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي «كتارا» أمس، معرض «اليمن عشق يأسرك» للفنانة الفوتوغرافية والتشكيلية القطرية موضي الهاجري، بحضور متنوع وغفير لعدد من ممثلي البعثات الدبلوماسية لدى الدولة، ونخبة من الفنانين والمهتمين، إلى جانب أعضاء من الجالية اليمينة المقيمة في الدولة.

يضمّ المعرض أكثر من 115 صورة فوتوغرافية عرضتها الفنانة على شكل لوحات فوتوغرافية، وأخرى قدمتها في عرض تلفزيوني نقلت فيها الزوار إلى أماكن متنوعة في اليمن، لتبرز جمالها وعراقتها، كما اهتمت برصد ملامح الوجوه وخاصة للأطفال في رسالة ثقافية إنسانية سامية، كما كان المعرض مناسبة احتفت فيه الفنانة بصدور كتابها الذي يحمل أيضاً اسم المعرض «اليمن عشق يأسرك».

ووصف الدكتور خالد السليطي المعرض بـ «الجميل» الذي ينقل لزوار الحي الثقافي «كتارا» عبق اليمن الأصيل والجميل حضارة وثقافة وتاريخاً، كما يبرز براعة الفنانة في التقاط الزوايا ذات المغزى التي من خلالها تنقل للمشاهد رسالة عن اليمن كما رصدتها بعدستها.

وأكد أن المعرض يُعد من المعارض الفنية الجميلة التي تقدم الإضافة، لأنها تنقل رسالة ثقافية وفنية راقية تحمل مشعل الفن كجسر للتواصل بين الثقافات والشعوب، وهو ما تعمل المؤسسة العامة للحي الثقافي «كتارا» عليه من خلال مختلف الفعاليات والأنشطة الثقافية والمعارض التي تقدمها.

من جانبها، قالت الفنانة موضي الهاجري، إن المعرض يضم صوراً تسرد رحلاتها إلى اليمن، بالإضافة إلى احتفالها بصدور النسخة الأولى من كتابها الذي يحمل عنوان المعرض «اليمن عشق يأسرك»، منوهة بأنها أرادت من خلاله إلقاء الضوء على الحضارة والثقافة اليمنية، وما تتمتع به من أصالة وأخلاقيات رفيعة إلى جانب جمال العمارة اليمينة.

وأوضحت أنها حاولت أن تتناول 3 أجزاء، في الجزء الأول رصد جمال العمارة اليمينة، وفي الجزء الثاني حياة الناس والشارع والأسواق في عدد من المناطق، بالإضافة إلى عدد كبير من البورتريهات وخاصة للأطفال.

يشار إلى أن المعرض يستمر إلى نهاية أكتوبر الحالي في المبنى 22 بـ «كتارا».
